I live in the us in Pennsylvania and we do this type of pointing on stonework a lot and it’s called v joint or ridge joint I always wanted to do it on brickwork and I totally agree about what you said about pointing in that good pointing makes rough work look good and bad pointing can make a good job look horrible. I do a lot of pointing and you my friend are a beast! Good work and thanks for putting up this video

I would love a home with that brick & that pointing! The richness of the colour & techniques, and with the gray foundation are amazing. Even the colour of the mortar is the best!

Clean that mate very nice im a big fan bird beak should of mentioned that With bird beak, pointing it at the right time is vital for the finish for people who havnt dont it before pointing with bucket handle you can get away with it being abit wet or dry but with bird beak pointing it when its at it right consistency it vital

Looks good Stu , not a great fan of of this as it is labour intensive and where the perps meet the bed joints never looks tidy imho . The light coloured mortar always looks nice . The brickwork is good and even you would struggle to make that look bad . Keep it up , all the best .

If you smear or smudge a brick while laying them would you recommend spongeing before you even start pointing?

Neat that mate. A question about the staggered brickwork at the back of this wall. How did you finish this as the chariot wouldn't dive the same depth recess?

  • @Mr.Gui.monteiro

Is there any reason for doing that in the joints? Like avoid water to enter, or to create stain on the walls? Thanks in advance Stu.

You can’t stop water totally but this wouldn’t compress as much as a keyed finish with a jointer

Hi Stu, I was wondering, since you use the same morter for the brick laying as you use for pointing, are you familiar with pointing in this way? th-cam.com/video/kXMBaJuUzrw/w-d-xo.html That's a totally different type of pointing I guess (is it still called pointing?). The usage of the same morter for bricklaying and pointing is (to me) relatively new in the Netherlands. I've only seen it in some new building projects a few times over the past 5-10 years.

Not your best stu,bed joints looked reasonable cross joints ???no sorry ,i actually worked on a new carpark in Nottinghamshire approximately 25 year ago with weather struck pointing, we cut the bed joints only and we had to use a long straight edge to get a nice straight finish to the joints, anyway, keep safe

  • @richardm2445

A pointing style that so called brickies use that can't point. A perfect way for water to sit on the brick and blow the face, useless as well as looking awful.
