Hi thank you for subscribing! You need both. I have a case study album you might want to checkout. The ppt is when you are invited to on-site interview, and website is to list on your resume, so hiring manager can use it for screening.

For product designer, case study is a detailed documentation / presentation written by designer(first person) who faced a user problem, and how the designer solved it from his/her own point of view. Hope this helps!
If you mean a personal website to showcase your portfolio, the easy one to start is Squarespace, or Webflow if you look for more custom interactions. If you want to build your portfolio screens or prototypes, Figma is the go-to design tool.
Hi there, I don’t think there’s much difference in what to showcase. As a freelancer, your client wants to understand your thought process and see that you can successfully launch a product. The distinction between full-time and freelance work lies more in employment policies; however, your portfolio, resume, and interview should remain consistent.

Then you can start to find problems in your life, and make case studies out of it. For instance, how to help friends stay close in the virtual world. Or redesign an existing design like Airbnb homepage. I’ll create a video talk about how to start a design career.
I have a question here, everyone is doing UX and talking about UX, so who is doing UI does UI even matters at all. Please help me to understand I want to get into this industry but I'm more interested in UI Design like the design itself.
Thank you for your question! It can very confusing and I was there. I heard a metaphor that’s pretty accurate describing UX/UI: UX designer is like an architecture that covers structural things, flows like where the walking path should be, in UX it would be what the user journey is like, what the end to end workflow looks like. Versus UI designer is like an interior design who is responsible with the design components styles and look and feel, in UI practice it would be button styles, visual elements, or micro interactions. Larger organizations split these two up as separate roles. If you are interested in both, you can look for product designer role who is responsible for both(eg. Meta and majority of startups). I can explain more of the nuances in the future videos. Hopefully this makes some sense 😊

So lets say I want to end up as a UI designer only because I love the look and feel of design, currently I am a brand designer I design company logos I love UI not UX, so If i want to end up as UI designer for these high-end tech companies whats your recommendations I should do in terms of studies

That's amazing you know what you want to focus on already! Here is my recommendation: if you want to target at high-tech companies, they hire UI designers for specific reasons - manage design library, create delightful graphs, and revamp pages. You will need to focus on UI fundamentals, material design created by Google is a good place to start. Once you are familiar with all the components, you can download a material design library into your Figma, which is a common design software you want to be a master, then start creating different pages. You can create different prompt for yourself, such as redesign Uber home page, or book a car page. You can create some micro interactions to be embedded into these screens to create more pleasant moments. Once you feel confident about components, and revamp pages, you can start to create your own design library. UI designer needs to be detail driven, so don't ignore any pixels to make it look perfect. Train your eyes is the most important quality. Hope this recommendation helps!
I've been working as a designer for 7 years and feel like my portfolio is weak. I have only 3 projects I'm ready to show which didn't have an ideal design process, sometimes we skipped the testing phase and just discussed mockups with the team. As a result, many recruiters reject telling they've found a better match. How to deal with that situation? Also, I'm from Eastern Europe, and in my culture is not very common to smile all the time when we talk to people, how can that affect personality evaluation? Thank you!
👋 I’m sorry that you feel that way about your portfolio. A lot of times, employers are only trying to get the evidence you know how to do user research. So if you can launch a project using non-coding environment on a passion project, and document how you do research, that’s great exposure on your user research skills. Also moving forward, even your company doesn’t do user testing, I would encourage you to use your friends or peers who have similar expertise to test. End of the day is that you know how to do it, and your product usability is on the right direction. On the personality part, you can either try to fit in the team’s general culture if they smile to you, you can give a similar vibe to them. Or you can show your friendliness through words, greet them, and ask follow up questions when they decided to share some information with you. The interactions can be very personalized, and you can test out which way feels more natural to you. Good luck! 🍀

@@Dre2067 I understand your concern, personally I think it might be useful to have it for now since you can be one person shop and get it done quick. To have real world example, you might have to influence your cross functional partners to do more user research with your next project which takes more time, then your next project will be you primary case study for recruiting.
