Jeep Liberty Coolant Change

  • My dad downs the Liberty that I've been doing all the work on. Well he hasn't had the coolant changed since 2005 which he purchased the jeep used. That means it has had the same coolant for over 12 years. Now, these Libertys use HOAT red coolant, and we decided it would be best to just change it was OEM coolant. That is what we did, and we haven't had a problem since. The only thing you need to make sure you do is use the same type of coolant that the manufacturer recommends. Different coolants have different properties and some coolants wreck havoc on gaskets.
    Also, this should help stop the problem of overheating. We haven't been but but temperatures were certainly rising since the older coolant was breaking down.
    I release new videos every Monday and Friday 10AM-EST.

    I can't see what you're pointing to. Is it a small nut in the lower corner of the square radiator? And how do you take it off. We don't want to break it you know

    How much coolant do I need?

    Do you need to open up the radiator cap to have the air purge out quicker or just keep the radiator cap on at all times?

      Watching ChrisFix do a coolant flush answered my question. Open the radiator cap when the engine is cool and it will release pressure to let that peacock knob at the bottom of the radiator flush out more coolant.

      I would say first check the floorboard under the dash. If it's wet anywhere it's the heater core leaking. If not, check for steam or water coming out the exhaust pipe. If any water there you have a blown head gasket. Usually when u have steam coming through the vents it's your heater core. But it could be both. Heater core/head gasket. Make sure to check the heater hoses all the way to the heater core for leaks.

    Am I the only person here who realizes that he only drained the radiator?
    The engine block, all hoses, and heater core still contain old coolant.

      To drain the engine block on a Liberty is a real bitch. You have to remove the starter

      Trevor Wing yes. I stumbled onto your video and noticed the house and jersey tags. I did a lot of work to it. It’s getting a lift and new paint job this winter

    What coolant you use?

    • @TrevorWing
      @TrevorWing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This Jeep Liberty is supposed to have the HOAT coolant in it. So I went to the dealership and bought 2 gallons of Mopar HOAT coolant for pretty cheap. Surprisingly enough it is comparable pricing to Autozone.

      Did you flush the old red/hoat coolant out?

    • @ph7715
      @ph7715 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trevor Wing I did best I could, I replaced radiator 4 years ago, it overheated two years ago cuz bad fan. If I had to guess, I think I got at least 95% or so of old stuff out. one thing to note after new radiator installed and car overheated cuz of fan, Its have alot of rust in it. maybe about a half of a small foam picnic cups worth. its a liberty and I presume steel heads. flushed it again still getting foam. its muddy in color, and looks like frappachio like foam, always at very top of reservoir

    • @dennismullins7450
      @dennismullins7450 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That muddy foam most likely indicates a blown head gasket.

      Dennis Mullins what code would indicate a blown head gasket using a obd2? Would it show emission leak?
