Huh interesting I feel like anime fans dont really use the word bias, that word is normally used by kpop fans The closest word we have to 'oshi' is best girl/boy Because we normally dont say 'she is my oshi' we normally say 'i am a fan of her'
I feel like best girl/boy isn't really a good translation of oshi. I've only really used best girl/boy for 2D characters, never members of a 3D idol group.
Well in my opinion, oshi basically means "The person you support or admire." There really isn't a word that has similar meaning iirc, but it can be roughly translated as “idol” tho. Like “Taylor Swift is my idol” basically means “Taylor Swift is my oshi.”
I kinda feel like for Japanese artist, particularly J-Idols, I just use "oshi" without translation; I associate "bias" too specifically with K-pop idols and see the term specifically used by K-pop fans.
I mean, yeah? Kind of? Not really First of all if you wanted to use bias for oshi it would be 'my bias' so in would be 'child of my bias' But the word 'ko' in itself can just mean person. So oshi no ko in itself can just mean 'my bias' The double meaning is the beauty of that title But i wouldnt translate oshi to bias as it has slightly different nuances
For a huge dissection on the word oshi (推し) it’s a shortened version of oshimen (推しメン) meaning favourite member when talking about idol and otaku culture. It can be used as a verb, osu (推す), meaning to support one’s favourite. It’s often said that oshi is derived from the word osu (押す) meaning to push, but above you see it’s usually written with the Chinese word 推 instead which means recommend. So oshi is someone you want to help give a push to or is someone you recommend.
Bias is just the translation Sally decided on I think. There is no good 1:1 translation of Oshi at the end of the day. It's kind of like translating what a "meme" means into Japanese. They have something similar, but there is no 1:1 translation like there is with say Food - Tabemono, and what not. A few plausible alternative translations I can think of for Oshi are Favorite and Stan, but these still don't convey the exact meaning of Oshi, so yeah.
@@RockinFootball_23yeah, I guess Sally picked it because it's more specific and more nerdy than saying "my fave". I'm surprised she knows "bias" because it's pretty niche in kpop lmao.
Matsuoka is just naturally funny without even trying :D
He is our lord and savior after all

Sally is teaching Matsuoka English slowly but sure. He'll become fluent in memes in no time xD
thanks for uploading, matsuoka content has been so rare this few months
I suppose it goes without saying, but translating it as "bias" is about as Engrish as it could get...
"HELLO GUYS, I'M A DRAGON FORCE BIAS!!" 💀🤣
Yea! Matsuoka and Sally is definitely the crossover we needed 😅
Lol this is funny! Thank you for the video! As Matsuoka fan I am happy!
When Matsuoka said ' Vibing Up ', it's totally mean different but same thing.

And honestly the word oshi is itself becoming more known because of vtubers and Oshi no Ko.

Huh, I was wondering how she got that. If "bias" is used to refer to your favorite kpop idol, I will give her translation a pass.
You either tl it from en en dictionary like jisho Wiktionary or ja to ja like dictionary goo ne jp etc.

Is that k-pop groip ?
Yes, they were a K-pop group called HINAPIA, but they disbanded way back in 2020.
Ada indo coyyyyy
Aren't these all just k-pop terms?
This is Japan not South Korea. Are you fuckin' stupid?
Yes but I think it may be spreading not sure. If you follow j-idols we just use terms japanese terms and for western boybands….fave member???
