Competed and completed in the fell race 21 times and have the Three Peaks Race certificate to prove it My best time was 3 hours 23 minutes but still 53 places behind the winner. I used this race as training for the 62 miles Fellsman later on in May. At age 79 now could not even walk either race route. Towards the end new entry restrictions were making it more difficult to enter even for fell running club members with the required experience of three category "A" long distance races during the previous season. Weather conditions during the years I ran in the event varied widely from warm and dusty, to a sudden snow blizzard blowing in half an hour after I had finished. Bear in mind the race date was always at the end of April every year. One year the weather was so wild and bad even the race leader and eventual winner considered packing in before the final climb over Ingleborough and down to the finish. There were groups of mountain rescue team members at intervals over the final few miles checking runners for hypothermia.
Just done the 3 Peaks as a hike but really interested to run it as you guys did. Interesting to see which way around you did it and I think looking at this it makes more sense going with Ingleborough first, rather than Pen-y-ghent. We struggled to easily find a short route back to Horton in Ribblesdale from the last climb at Ingleborough (8-9 miles!) hell!
Cool video, interesting to see the route that way round. I've done the 3 peaks fell race 3 times in the opposite direction. That descent off Ingleborough with tired legs is a killer!
Hi Ian thanks for the comment, really would recommend it that way round as it makes the first two very pleasant and then just 2miles from the top of Pen Y Ghent and you’re home 😊
Fantastic! You covered quite the distance and it turned out to be such a beautiful day. I've always enjoyed when the clouds lift and being treated to such amazing views. Although, those stones slabs for the trail on the one mountain seem to make for a very interesting path especially when wet and slick.
Really enjoyed this round - you backed a winner going clockwise, and the weather picked up tremendously. I went in the opposite direction in mid-March and descended Ingleborough in a daze ... so I especially enjoyed that part of your video :) Well done to you all !
Looks like you had the mountains to yourselves it’s usually very busy. We ran the other way around so it was interesting to see your way. Thanks for sharing.
Yes really recommend it this way round. Didn’t see many people at all doing it the same way or maybe just started earlier than they did. I certainly thought it would be a lot busier for a bank holiday weekend but another advantage of doing this way round this that most people are coming towards you so see you coming and you’ve quickly passed them. Pen Y Ghent was busy but we definitely got away with it as it was a bank holiday weekend as well 👌😀
Great video - I never even thought of doing it clockwise. Have you done both to know which seems easier? I have a daft notion to do this this summer... daft in so much that I'm old and the furthest I have ever run is 13.1 miles on tarmac! 😀
Hi, just found your channel and enjoying the videos. I was wondering which harnesses you used with you dogs. I have a non-stop for my pooch but always looking for alternatives depending on the terrain. Thank you.
Thanks for your comment and glad you enjoyed. I use ruffwear harnesses, these ones are the ‘flagline’ harnesses. They are expensive but have been great for lifting dogs over stiles etc and I think will last a long time 🤞
Thanks for your comment Josh. I use the Garmin 735xt, not had trouble with connections no especially when the map is already pre loaded. It’s a great function on the watch 👍

You are smiling and talking whilst running… I was crying and broken and I walked it 😂
Amazing effort. I’ve walked it and it was a real real test. So fair play! 🙌
Loved watching this back Jo! Makes me want to do it again. Great memories :D
Yes! We need to plan another epic run 😊
Spectacular!! Wish my dog would stay close like yours 🙂.
Running up the steps m.. fair play 👌🏻

You make it sound very pleasant! :D I'll have to give it a try some time. Cheers.

It’s been great watching it back and felt very lucky with weather. Yes the flags would have been lethal in the wet.

Thanks so much for your comment, yes definitely would recommend the clockwise loop. 😊 and the weather 👌

No haven’t run it both ways but would be good to try. I still think the clockwise way would be my preferred route

Loved it I’ve walked it a few times for a Father’s Day out time did you set off at ? 👍
It was a fab route, we set off about 7am 👍
Which watch are you using for your map? Do you have any issues with connections and such? BTW.. I loved the video

Thanks for the video, enjoyed that. How long di the walk/run take?
Thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed the video, it took us around 5.5hr. Would be good to race it and see how much faster we could go 👍
