- Before the Frost...Until the Freeze is a 2009 album by blues-rock band The Black Crowes. It was recorded before a live audience at Levon Helm's Woodstock, NY studio, The Barn in late February and early March, 2009.
Be struck by the arrow of weakness
On the gilded path to forgiveness
Find my way home when the morning comes
To stay your friend when it's all said and done
Simple as lightning starting wild fire
Just down from a trip off my high wire
Just coming home to walk my own floors
Just coming home to the one I adore
Appaloosa
Appaloosa
Appaloosa
Take me home
Where I can dream my days away
You took your tears back to the river
Knowing all the while there'd be more later
So it goes in a rainy day town
Come on and won'cha let me lay you down
Sometimes the sun makes beggars believers
And sometimes a shrine is built to deceive her
In between let oblivion ring
Whoa let me hear all you sad angels sing
Appaloosa
Appaloosa
Appaloosa
Take me home
Where I can dream my days away
Appaloosa

Luther was the best thing to happen to The Crowes since Marc left. Such a tasty player. Love both Before & After. Just Timeless.
Agreed, Luther was unreal in Crowes. Fit like a glove.
Totally 🙌
One of my all time favorite songs. Goes straight to the heart! The whole album is a masterpiece. Thank you Black Crowes!
This album was their absolute best. Tight and clean, fantastic recording quality. IMO this was their peak
Magic was captured that night.
Agree. This song is magic..that's for sure
Crowes are such an underrated American treasure!God bless the The Crows and and the Brotherhood.
I have re-discovered this song and I will never let it go again. Thank you Black Crowes. "Take me home...where I...can dream my days away."
In between that oblivion rain
Let me hear all your sad angels...sing
These 2 lines out of 1 song, even from all the Crowes songs in their catalog, have never resonated more powerfully, in this now, than they ever have, for me
In between, let oblivion ring!
Appaloosa Rose Mahfouz .. was born this morning..she is the most beautiful baby in the world.. thank you to the black.crowes for such a beauiful song ..thay my wife and I named our.daughter after.
This song is so beautiful,it brings me to tears.
im really glad the brothers got back together to write.. I miss marc ford though.
The band has completely broken up. Fortunately,we still have CRB.
always be some incarnation of the group.. those guys live and bleed the south.. just pick up any bit of jam i can find you know?
hells yeah. to the one I adore
I love that Larry Campbell is playing steel on this! That guy can play multiple instruments and he’s awesome at all of them! This album is absolutely amazing!
Revisiting this video years later what strikes me, apart from the great song, is how timeless Luthers solo is. It makes the song gel in some sense and one would have hoped it was longer.
The first few notes have an elegance that only truly great solos have. I can't put my finger on it or put words to it. But I know it when I hear it.
Cheers and take care all.
Spot on!
Luther is exceptional
6.25 in. Luther just let's it rip

The Crowes have gotten even better with age ...
A modern classic...I can listen to this tune in repeat the whole day and feel amazed every time..
When my dad presented Cabin fever to me, i was like:
"dude, isn't that a horror movie"
And he answered: "It is. Scary good musicians!"
Until the freeze is a bloody great album, this song in particular had instant recogniation with me
Beautiful.... Brilliant ❤️
The Pedal Steel makes this performance
Diese Stimme geht einen durch und durch, Top Titel
Ol' Sevens Pippy with the sweet harmony vocals.
My favorite BC song
Proud to say that I was there to witness one of the nights of the recording of this album. Specifically, the one where Chris was wearing the California shirt.
I think Chris's voice is in its prime on these Woodstock shows. He's gotten a bit hoarse as of late and was a bit raw when younger. He's showing great range and control here.
One of the prettiest songs I know...perfect!
Warpaint and Before the Frost/Until the freeze are two criminally underrated albums... No hits, indeed, but when you have songs like Appaloosa who needs them? Records to listen in their entirety, feeling the flow of great song after great song...Matureness
Encore encore encore !!! That was damn beautiful !!! 😉😉🎤🎸🎼🎵🎶🌎❤✌
Warpaint is a masterpiece. Recorded at Levon Helm's studio outside of Woodstock. RIP Levon and Eddie Harsh
My favorite Black Crowes song
+Melissa Ridner - This is a Velvet Underground cover. Off of Loaded. The Crowes covered it well, damn well. ~;)

+Shakey Perspective I am sorry but no,I just looked up the lyrics to Appaloosa and Chris and Rich wrote it. You are thinking of Oh Sweet Nuthin, that is a Velvet Underground song,Appaloosa is and always will be A Crowes song. You can look it up yourself if you doubt me. I know my Crowes.
+Shakey Perspective I think you're thinking of "Sweet Nuthin", which IS a Velvet Underground song, and on this DVD.
Kenneth Norris You are exactly right.
Absolutely Love this song and album.
God, this is so beautiful... wish i could hear it all days. But i can't, cause everytime i do, i cry a river.
they make me cry...they music touch me as nothing does...
if you ever get a chance to catch one of levon's midnight rambles at his studio it's well worth the price of admission..
A máster piece from the most rock n'roll band of ever
From Spain with love to all crowe's fans
Crowes, what a band.
before the frost is a masterpiece, sucha great damn album, with really tasty songs, Appaloosa is one of my favourites!

Esta canción me hace vibrar hasta los huesos; perfecta, preciosa, inmejorable !!!
Always loved this song. it speaks so much to my life. Wish i could have been at the taping of cabin fever. That would have been truly awesome!!!
this song is awesome, love the black crowes.
The past recapiculates itself. Sounds great
I was there : ) Great Night.
Their best song by far love it!
0:46 Steve and Chris give the impression of being good friends... shame how it's all turned out. But really happy the brothers are playing together again
Now I finally understand what my parents were always complaining about when I listened to pop.
Mind blown.
beautiful. they are always my favorite band.
That Song makes me Happysad it's a feeling. You know?
La sento e la risento e la risento e mi PIACE proprio tantissimo!
The Black Crowes - the best!!!
I love Cabin Fever, The Crowes at their very best. Saw them live a couple months before they released Before the Frost, and it was cool to hear some of the tunes for the first time live. Here's hoping they end their hiatus soon and get back to playing together, they're one of the best bands around.
Instant classic is right. Smooth
Best album since shake your money maker, by your side. Countrysound. Love it
Greatest song ever
Mme ha gustado este grupo desde 1991 que lo escuche por primera vez, ojalá vinieran a México
So beautiful !!!
just keep getting better.......
The pedal steel in this...❤❤❤
People had better remember these guys are back now b cuz this music want be awesome like this greatest
This the Joconde and Sistine Chapel of Rock & Roll.
Doesn’t really get any better
Along with being an elite rock vocalist Chris Robinson is an exceptional lyricist.
This is such a beautiful song.
If I had to pick only 3 things to survive earth, I would pick bacon, clam chowder and this song.....
Got a Grateful Dead sound and feel to it, love this one.
0:43 when Chris and Steve used to be friends..
You can put me on a desert island with this DVD and a few albums from Warren Haynes and the Allmans's Bro and I would be fine....
Appaloosa... Appaloosa...
Why did he rerecord the song for Chris Robinson Brotherhood...This rendition is simply unmatched
Wow, beautiful - who is the pedal steel player?
🍄Mmmmmm🥰🌹MelTime 😘
Southern blues on. Much of there songs. Much like Lowell George will a Rod Stewart haircut
💗🤗💗
Anyone knows the name of the guy who is playing the lapsteel??
I've loved the album since it came out but I wasn't aware this fully pro video existed of it all. Is the whole session available on video commercially or (if not) in the trading communities?
+Jason Davis Yes it is available on DVD, titled Cabin Fever.

Apaloooooooooooooooooooooooosa.Uou
☄️🔥🔥🔥🔥
🌟🌹🌟🌹🌟
What really sucks is that the Brotherhood may not play again......
@marioduran72 exactly
His appearance really reminds e of 1969's John Lennon
+MrCamrox97 Thank God no one else sees that or we'd all be puking.
+MrCamrox97 i agree with you, when i see him in concert from far away also he look like him, and Sven from a distance looks like Harrison.
Shame on you, Chris, that you stop it. :-(
what do you mean?
Jesus Chrowst
one person don't know anything about music and feelings
wish chris would sing so controlled always. he just ruins most performances with this exaggerated mariah carey acrobatics on every fucking line
Beautiful
