  • Cats and dogs are stereotypically portrayed as complete opposites, but do dog people and cat people follow suit? As it turns out, whether or not you are a dog person or a cat person can say a lot about your personality, preferences, and how you interpret the world around you.

      My primary dislike of Dogs comes from them licking your face (and everywhere else), just after licking their anus, genitals, or the foul food people feed them, or even dung :o
      .
      The fact that they seem unable to NOT spread their tongue around is my absolute primary reason for not liking Dogs.! IMHO, they are reasons 1-5... I like Dogs, but not their tongues.!

I got a second one because they say that it is good to raise a kitten with another one. That one also just eats sleeps and shits. Ive had them for about a year, and I’ve loved them and bought them toys, but I will be realistic and say unfortunately they only seem to show any signs of “affection” when they want something.

      Indeed, the most vehement cat haters I know are young (20's/30's) alpha male types, usually into extreme sports, who own big hunting or fighting type dogs, whom they train & control obsessively, & like to show off how absolutely trained & controlled their dogs are. It has always seemed rather Creepy to me. These guys never seem to keep a girlfriend for long. I know, Shocking.
      Personally, I like both cats & dogs, but wouldn't go to that extent of training on a dog, nor would I want to own such "extreme" breeds of dogs, a "normal" dog is fine for me.
      I'm not a fan of fancy / purebred dog or cat breeds, far more a mutt / rescue person all around, can't understand why anyone would buy a dog or cat from a breeder when there are so many deserving creatures needing rescue.

      I head that the personality of your pet usually can match one of its owner. That or they kinda adapt their personality over the connection they have with that owner.

When it comes to disliking cats, what I hate is how a lot of cat owners don't take responsibility for caring for them - they allow them to roam, don't bother neutering them, don't bother getting them vaccinated, aren't bothered if they kill wildlife, aren't bothered if the cat gets injured or gets run over.

    • @Raven_Black_252
      @Raven_Black_252 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Op's definition of introversion is not true, yes. Introverts can have a lot of friends and big friend groups, meet with them and go to parties, but when they come back home they will be exhausted from that interaction and will seek alone time to recharge and collect their thoughts/energy. For extroverts in that same friend group, when they come back home after that, they will be very energized, they will say "I feel so much better now after hanging out with my buddies" and will continue to do high energy tasks after that. When given time to rest in free time, for extroverts that rest is gonna be doing high energy activities with people and they rest by doing that. Introverts will choose to stay at home to watch/read/cook, play with pets, go on quiet walks, hiking either alone or with a partner or a close one and recharge through alone, quiet ways. Much like cats retreating into a box, making biscuits and then sleeping whereas dogs will go crazy when you mention "park" and they will get their own leashes and drag you to the park.

    An interesting subject and one I have pondered on before. I would like to add another difference though and it also relates to cat & dog behaviour. That is that like a dog, dog lovers seem to depend more on receiving affection and approval where as cats and their owners seem to be more likely to want to give affection and less likely to need apprval.

    • @carmensavu5122
      @carmensavu5122 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup yup yup! I personally think cats are a good match for submissive people, and dogs are a good match for dominant people. Because cats are a dominant type of pet, while dogs are a submissive type of pet. Contrary to expectation, dominant people are calm and collected, and they depend a lot on receiving affection and appreciation from others, most particularly on being perceived as leaders and having people look up to them. Submissive people (such as myself) are more neurotic, aggressive, and clingy, but they don't care as much about being looked up to or receiving affection. However, they have a lot of affection to give and it's right down painful if they don't get to do that. Neither type likes companions (be they human or other animal) of the same type, it's an "opposites attract" type of thing.

If they had a fear of all animals I'd understand but when people say they're afraid of cats but like dogs, despite dogs being far more dangerous statistically - I just don't have space for people like that. Cats can be the gentlest, sweetest, most deeply loving creatures and if you need immediate gratification like dogs will give you to feel connected to someone then you might only enjoy surface-level relationships. I am still an introvert but I prefer my dogs to cuddle with. I find having dogs and their routines helps to keep me grounded and balanced when my artist mind just wants to sew or craft all day and night, my dogs remind me that it is time to get some exercise or eat or take a cuddle break.
    I still love my cats but my dogs don’t Pee on my clean laundry when they get angry with me and I really appreciate that.

    For the love of cats I share some things I've learned in my research. The basic idea here, on the surface, yes, but on other things here's the deal; cats are social, it's ill perception from solo house cats I guess that gives people this idea. They hunt, shit, piss and die alone, yes. Then they congregate to play, sit in the sun, sleep, share food, and who knows what information passes between them in their outward silence? The differences seem more stark from cat's codes being harder for uneducated humans to understand. It takes not simply 'introversion' but self discipline, and yes cats can be trained to jump through hoops and walk a snaky path between traffic cones but you have to give them something to motivate them. You have to respect a cat's royalty to get the love cat. It's not some unearned ego trip with them, it comes with having such bright senses and being in the middle of the predator prey cycle. Dogs will take indiscipline in their humans as long as they get fed. A dog can be warned off by anger and whippings. If violence is in your mix, beware the cat. This is more than just inward focus, and the neuroses can be done away with when inner disciplines are honored, studied, and practiced. It's not some unearned royalty I say again; cats are more advanced in their senses and their defenses and their sense of self worth. They are exceptionally ritual oriented, but humans who expect cat to just bring them a toy when they want to play, or never play with their cats, or just let their cats outside and only feed and water them and occasionally pet them would never notice this. Zoomies at night when I want to sleep!? Cat so chaotic! How about dogs who can't tell friend from foe and bark all through the night? Zoomies at night are because cat guardian didn't observe the ritual of hunt, chase, catch, eat that runs out the zoom on their wild instincts. This is play time with correct interactive toys that the human moves like prey and lets the cat catch them, and then carry them off. Then you put the toys away and feed the cats. If you set the pace of the rituals with correct science then your cats will follow your sleep and wake cycles like a monk and you're the abbot of their monastery, but only when you know the correct science of how cat and humans best relate. I recommend Jackson Galaxy in your research. He's where I learned most of this, and I can tell it as I do because I've also met the challenges in the practice of keeping indoor cats with and without this knowledge. You can be more willy nilly with dogs and still get good results. Cats take more intelligence and discipline to keep healthy, happy and sane in indoor environments. Cats can even be trained to stride on leashes with the dogs in their family. Not to dig on you good sir, this comes from my heart as a primary cat person in this layout. I seek only to dissolve ignorance that has made human cat relations difficult, and even hellish over our relationship of thousands of years. It takes more learning on the part of the human to get the loving radiance of a cat who loves, not merely uses, humans. Dog lets human rot in the dungeon as long as dog gets the scraps. Cat will not tolerate such abuse, and then humans blame the chaos of the cat. Cat pisses everywhere but the box! You got the box wrong, human. It's human's lack of discipline that drives house cats wild. IN the wild they'd be prey in a heartbeat if they lacked it. It's gaslighting cats as far as I'm concerned to blame the hellcat on the cat, when it's almost always the humans with their toxic habits and relationships that activate the cat's fierce defenses.

    I like how they used a negative spin on cat person traits and positive spin on dog person traits. It can be done both ways. For example, you could say that cats/cat people are independent, self sufficient and low maintenance while dogs/dog people are needy, have insecure attachment style, and don't have a true sense of self. Instead, why cant we look at all their individual traits in a positive light? Everyone always tries to compare cats and dogs to each other, but they are just completely different. You rarely see someone comparing elephants to dolphins so why do we need to compare cats and dogs? It felt unnecessary to present it like this.

However, there unfortunately are no rules about picking up cat poop (at least not anywhere i’ve ever lived)…. And the neighborhood cats come, uninvited, day after day, to sh*t in our backyard. So i have to pick up my neighbors’ cats’ sh*t. I have always picked up after my dogs no matter where they poop. Why should I have to pick up after other people’s cats? I don’t even like cats. When you let your cat out, you must know it’s gonna piss and sh*t on other people’s property… It’s very annoying. And disrespectful. That’s what i’ve noticed about cat people.

    The miss information!
    Cats LOVE routine. But most humans don’t realize what their routine needs to be.
    Cats are dawn and dusk creatures. Most active at these times. That’s when you play with them and do stuff like teaching them tricks.
    Which is Totally possible. Try to teach a cat a trick at 2pm? I wouldn’t want to do tricks in the middle of the night either!
    Establishing routine is Great for cats. Keeps them calm.
    Example, been staying with my brother due to a flood. He’s allergic so they gotta go into the bedroom when I’m at work.
    I let them out for an hour while I had breakfast. Fed them. Let them run around for awhile. Than called them while I walked back to the room.
    They ALL followed. Some went straight to their favourite nap places. Some waited for a few Good Kitty pets.
    They get Very confused and a bit upset when I stay up later than normal too. Past 9pm they wonder why we’re not all going to bed now. I even get yelled at by one of the more vocal cats if I don’t go to bed on time!
    Cats Can be trained! They love routine! They love attention and socialization! The socialization part is how you end up with six cats that Never scratch you, even when scared.
    Humans just need to start treating them like actual animals with needs and less like purring accessories.

I've successfully raised eight orphaned kittens so now when I hear a tiny kitten meow it turns on my 'nurture mode'. Personality wise, I'd call myself a 'cat that gets along with dogs I trust'. My introverted ways can be flexible if I'm with extroverted people I trust; in which case, I don't feel recharged by outings or social gatherings but I don't feel drained by them either.
