I completely understand your perspective, but I think it depends on your financial situation, so I am opposite to you in that I will likely stick with coach and vintage pre loved from now on because I can’t justify the prices of luxury new, anymore
Over the past 8 years I accumulated 55 handbags most of them contemporary and a few luxury. Last year I decided to become a minimalist so I made the decision to downsize majorly. I gave some away and sold some including selling my YSL LouLou and Gucci Dionysus. I’m now down to 15 bags but my ultimate goal is only 3 bags🙏🏽 I haven’t purchased a bag since the beginning of this year and it’s been the best feeling ever! I honestly don’t miss those bags at all and I found that being content and happy with what you have is way more fulfilling🫶🏽
Oh you're just like me! I'm a sucker for cute bags that I never wear but they make a great museum item in my home! And you buy the same bag in different colours - just like me!!! I have to stop watching bag videos because it's like QVC. You just get so tempted to buy more. Thank you for your honesty. Love your videos. ❤❤❤
Melinda, I was the same way when I went through my dad’s wallet after he had passed… he had a card that came with the wallet inside, it was an emergency contact card and on it, in his unmistakable handwriting was my name and phone number as his emergency contact. I was bawling my eyes out for the next hour. Handling their super personal items just hits you hard. Love the story about your mom’s hot pink purse. You made her so happy and that was just one of the countless ways, I’m sure. Thank you for sharing! And how wonderful is your husband that he dragged a colleague to the store to surprise you with the bag!
Awe I understand that, it does really get to you. Her handwriting has become so cherished to me. All the recipes she wrote out I love seeing her writing. Thank you! They were good sports to go with him lol.
This is so accurate 😂 I don’t have too many bags and I feel like I use a handful of them more than others and I feel bad. I try to rotate them out but generally I stay with a bag for weeks at a time. I just celebrated a big work milestone so I went a bit crazy with rewarding myself 😅
I relate to this so much! I bought my first luxury a year ago with some money my grandma gifted when she passed, so it’s sentimental and she also loved purses. I want to purchase more luxury but I think it’s hard to wait because it takes longer to save and these contemporary pieces feel more attainable more often. But I am working on resisting as well so I can put that money to a luxury piece! Longchamp and coach are my downfall though. Their pieces are so well made sometimes it feels like a better deal than the expensive luxury pieces. Thanks for the video!😊
What a very special bag, you will always remember your grandma when you use it. I know it is very tempting when these brands have such cute things and sales.
I haven't been watching TH-cam in a while and I came on today to find you have come back! That makes me so happy! I hope you enjoyed your time away. Now I need to binge watch all of the videos I've missed. Welcome back!!
It is so grand that your daughters wanted to take some of your contemporary bags -- even though they do not love bags as much as you and we (your viewers/followers) love them. I love that you are gifting "Miss maximalist" a couple of new totes. So precious to have your mum's bags too. I also inherited a couple of bags of my mum. I sometimes use them but mostly just remember her when I take them from the closet. Hugs!!
Great video and great point. I still have many coach bags in my collection. I also have more than 10 Longchamp bags which I use them as gift to my friends and family members. Thank you so much for sharing Melinda 💕
You have a beautiful collection. I think I must have around 15 contemporary bags too. Due to a big family upheaval and health problems of my own this year I haven’t had a life and haven’t been anywhere other than medical places so most of my bags haven’t been worn this year. You are so right that the sales can get you in, especially as in the past few years they have been so good.
I agree with you, great video! My contemporary collection was my 'gateway drug' before I moved on to buying lux designer bags. I have since used very few of my contemporary bags (some are now vintage) but I still have most of them. I have gifted some, and will continue.
I have recently bought a few contemporary bags. I bought them to carry when I don’t want to carry luxury. I have been very pleased with them. My favorite so far is Dooney and Bourke Florentine collection. Very well made. The leather smells Devine!!
Every time you mention your mom I get very emotional. I'm so happy that you now own something that you gifted her and she loved so much. Thanks for sharing with the world. 💖
I bought one TB footwear in the past and they were so uncomfortable. I have the Coach Cassie and I LOVE IT! It is over 5 years old now and very worn out. I look back and wish I bought another color.
Good video. Very sensible move. I’m in the same mindset. I go in my closet and I’m overwhelmed with the handbags, shoes and clothes. I’ve already given away quite a few items this year but I plan to really commit myself in 2024 to downsize even more.
Thank you! I downsized shoes and clothes this past spring and it makes me so much happier when I go in the closet. Too much stuff gets overwhelming for sure.
Lovely collection, well curated as always... but yes, I feel the overwhelming nature of so many bags. They're just so beautiful I want them all! But where to put them all......................
Great video and I love every pieces. How about you do a vlog sale and sell them babies? Especially the coach pieces. I would love to buy the coin purses from you! Thanks for sharing
I love my classic luxury bags but I also love contemporary bags-they have their place in my small collection. I can buy a fun color or new shape without breaking the budget. Like you, I used to carry one bag till it fell apart-not sure what happened to me haha 😂. Those were the days!!
Great video. I purchased two coach bags last year spring and I regret the purchases. At first I was so excited but haven’t use them since last year fall. I ended purchasing a seasonal Chanel flag bag and a Gucci bucket bag last year fall. Same with shoes bought shoes on sale and have 5 pairs never worn. I plan to sell them and not buy anymore contemporary brands.
Melinda, I really enjoyed this video. I currently have 26 handbags and 21 SLGs. The collection used to be twice as big, but now I do the one-in-one-out thing. I’ve been house-bound for 14 years, but I still love to collect bags. I always have a constantly changing bag ready to go and out on display… even if I’ll only be using it for a doctor visit or nothing at all. I’m in straightened circumstances now, but I used to have money. Still, I never wanted to buy luxury bags back then. I stuck to buying the best contemporary bags I could get on sale. So, maybe you’ll feel less extravagant in comparison to someone who buys and sells 20 bags a year just so they can sit in a lovely handbag wardrobe with almost no chance of seeing the light of day. 😊
Thank you Melissa! I am so glad to hear your bags bring you joy. Sometimes I go look at mine even though I am not going anywhere and they put a smile on my face. I hope they do that for you as well! Xoxo
As I’m watching this video I’m looking at my bags and I’m saying the exact same thing. I don’t have quite as many bags as you do 😂but I have a larger collection of luxury bags and a handful of contemporary bags. Once I add the few additional bags from my wishlist I think im done for awhile. It’s so difficult to rotate bags and really use all of them, but sometimes the sales are just to good to pass up. ❤❤
Love the bag you gave to your mom and that you now have in your collection. You will always treasure it! I have stopped buying Coach and returned bags from Tory this summer because they're made in China. I won't buy things from China if I can help it. I've been an LV gal for several years and will remain one. :) I also have that pink Marc Jacobs tote and enjoyed rocking it this "Barblie" summer! (I haven't looked where MJ makes his bags...) I also have a Coach Cassie in black from several years ago that I really like. I have contemplated purchasing the LV Pochette Metis in black empreinte, but have held back because I already own the Cassie and it's so similar.
I got off all the brands like Tory Burch Michael lots Kate spade and others like that. I swore off coach but just got sucked back in with the recycled resin chain from coachtopia line. LONGCHAMP is my favorite brand. IT’s luxury yet affordable and underrated. And very durable and user friendly
Longchamp is a different beast than all the other contemporary brands, longchamp it’s luxury at the price of contemporary or sometimes not so much the same price as contemporary since their leather bags and sometimes special editions are quite expensive. But i feel like longchamp it’s a whole different beast than all the others. If feels much more craftmanship and detail. I love longchamp.
Love your contemporary collection. I can certainly relate to shopping 🛍️ because of a sale. So glad your dad gave you the bag you gave mom. ❤it’s a keeper💕
I can relate to having a lot and not using everything!! My collections have been jewelry and antique and vintage french tin lined copper cookware. I had to stop collecting both!! I've been giving my mom jewelry, which is nice, and we swap pieces occasionally, which has been really fun, but I hang onto my pots and pans, even though I reach for the same few when I cook. I also have a small handful of luxury and contemporary bags! ..I've been coveting an Aspinal lottie; I love watching your videos on them, they're *gorgeous*!! but I'll probably end up with more than one because of the seasonal color variety and affordability, yikes! All of that said, believe it or not, I've been working on minimalism!! or at least my version of it, whatever that means, haha! Thank you so much for sharing!! This video fun and very relatable! :)
OMG ! I got so happy 😁 when you showed the last bag. The color looks like my MK. It's a nylon travel tote one in the same color w/ stuff shoulder straps. I bought mine from Ross 2019.. I take care of mine like gold, yet the edging on the straps is chipping off in random places as of this month🤪.
I totally get what you are saying....I thought I'd see more of these types of videos from others; this was so Good. Beautiful Contemporary bag collection. Love your Lotties!🧡🍂
Melinda, I would love to see how and where you store your bags! You have a large collection and would like to see it displayed! 😊❤ I really enjoy your videos!
Lol! I still have my OG Kate spade baguette style nylon bag. Purchased in the late 90’s. I will never part with it. So many fun memories carrying my OG Kate spade bag. I also have a beat up Kate spade diaper bag from 2002. Won’t part from it either. 🤣
I see what you mean on why you wontI be buying Coach and Kate Spade anymore. Awwww hot pink Kate Spade bag is very sentimental. I know exactly how you feel. I lost my mother as well. I lost my mom years a go.
Beautiful contemporary bag collection, Aspinal of London and longchamp are amazing quality❤Your girls are always so funny😂it’s so hard to get to use every bag.Your mums bag was so moving,Much love 💕
Yes i absolutely agree with you, when it is on sale and the handbag is so beautiful, it is really tempting and we tend to always compare it with the luxury brands and justifying how well made that is, with the fraction of Chanel. I am there too many times but because my budget is tight, luckily i did not get most of it. I do have quite a few contemporary ones already and also for sure LV, Chanel and YSL. Truely understandable 🤩
I get what you’re saying and it is so easy to keep buying with the fun colors and the sales. I love your moms pink Kate Spade bag and the story behind it. ❤
Omg…you are my sister from another mother! Lol. I know exactly what you mean. I had over 30 Longchamp bag, many brand new. They make great gifts for family and friends. I’m happy to say I’m down to 17 now but who’s counting right? I have same Coach round coin purse too in metallic gray, still new too….and I have so many of the reimaged glove tanned Coach bags….and I still have a Vintage City Bag from Coach, new with tags and OG box!!! Lol, we are living parallel lives in the handbag purchasing world.
Thanks Mel for this video. A great reminder for me as I used to collect contemporary bags and only buy luxury ones when I go to the outlets in Europe. Recently, I gave away many of my longchamp totes, coach bags and even some luxury ones to family and friends. I have streamlined to just LV and Gucci for luxury; longchamp, aspinal and marc jacobs for my contemporary. 😂
The Coach Cassie bags are my favorite. I have the black one and it fits everything I need perfectly. Missed out in the white one but bought the Cassie 19. A little smaller but still holds a lot. I don't see myself with a bag collection anything like yours. My money goes to jewelry instead. If I owned the Hermes bags you have I don't think I would need any other bags.
The Cassie is a great bag! While I do love my Hermes bags they are not always good for every situation. I hear ya on jewelry! I have that covered lol, I have been collecting jewelry for over 20+ years before I ever added a luxury bag. Jewelry is my passion above bags.
I will not say never because I truly still love the Coach leather but what I try and do is not to buy bags I know I will not reach for and to keep the collection within reason. I say try because I am definitely not within reason I.e., a bag a week but I am working on it. I’m culling the contemporary designers but since I once worked for Coach there are some keepers that I simply cannot part with like my original Al Bonnie Cashin bag and my Stewardess Bag. I’ve never loved the Tory Burch leather for the price. I just think there are lots better products but I love the footwear. I started my collection 15 years ago when I was out of work and decided to develop a collection by buying and selling. Once I was in the black I could buy. It didn’t take long. I continue to catalog all purchases, save receipts and now can buy original when I want and sell pre-loved. This past year has been awesome buying pre-loved because the prices went sky high. I will not pay those prices because I feel I can be just as happy with bags under $5k, not to say there is anything wrong with those who must have an Hermes. I’m just not that gal. I tend to love LV, Chanel, Gucci, Fendi, and I feel the Aspinall of London creates great bags at a very reasonable price. I just try and sell those each year that do not get worn. I am currently parting with 20 Coaches, MK, Tory Burch and RM bags. It’s just a good way for me to not feel glutinous and know that I’m truly using the bags. I do hate when they just sit unused. It makes me feel guilty. I’m glad you are back on as I love listening to you!
Thank you Sharon! I feel the exact same way about Tory Burch, love the shoes the bags are overpriced to me. Sounds like you have a lovely collection and good luck with parting with the ones you don't use.
Loved this video! I don’t have a large collection, but definitely more than I need. I currently have 4 luxury bags (and won’t buy anymore) and around 8 contemporary bags. I totally agree, it is so easy to keep buying contemporary bags. I see a cute bag and justify it cause it is on sale. Like you, though, I need to stop. To keep the count down, I often gift contemporary bags to my daughters. But, at some point they are gonna tell me no more Mom! Anyway, I am feeling quite content with what I have now so I am pretty confident I can reign in this bag buying. Thank you for sharing that we’re not alone in the struggle to quit buying contemporary handbags. 🤦♀️
I just purchased the Aspinal of London large Lottie in the black quilted leather with gold hardware. I’m so impressed with it! It’s definitely filling my Chanel classic flap want. I won’t pay their crazy prices! But I do understand where you’re coming from. I have to reign in my Longchamp, Tory Burch and Coach purchases. I’ve managed to keep my Longchamp to 3, TB to 2 and Coach to 2. lol
I stopped buying any brand, including luxury when it comes to bags. I enjoy my vintage bags which in my opinion are made better than todays bags. I reach more for my vintage Coach bags which are just as great in quality as my Hermes! BTW, I enjoyed this video :)
Contemporary bags are so tempting to buy a lot of bc so many of them are very practical and great for day to day. Off topic, can you tell me where you got the chain youre wearing with the diamond one?
I agree with you so much! I have to exert a lot of self control because I get overly excited and end up not using them at all because I default into the luxury ones! Plus luxury prices have gone up so much, that I convince myself that everytime I buy contemporary its 1/5 towards a luxury one lol 😂 It helps me sleep over it and stop the nonsense jajaj wondering what other techniques for self control you all are using 😅
The prices are sooooo high now! I’m just at the point where I feel I need to use what I have more so whenever I’m tempted I go look at my contemporary bags and that helps.
I purchase vintage luxury handbags at auction through a few auction houses in Japan whom have been great to me. I now have an overwhelming amount of Prada, Ferragamo and Gucci that I swear is reproducung and making babies after I turn off the light's at night.🙈🙉🙊 Lol. Seriously feels that way sometimes. I to have a lovely Kate Spade my husband purchased for on our 16th wedding anniversary when we were in Las Vegas. That was four year's ago my beautiful Kate Spade red leather with flower print interior still has the price tag and wrapped hardware in place. I've obviously never used it but won't ever get rid of it for sentimental purposes. It's sitting next to a beautiful large black leather satchel from Michael Kors that also has never been utilized still has the tags and is completely wrapped hardware and all. Both of those are sitting next to three Coach bag's a poppy graffiti, a rare purple lavender sequin poppy and disco star bucket bag whom have gotten zero use. I have the Coach purple levender sequin bag listed. No takers yet. I've gave my mother in law a few Coach bag's last year for her birthday and mother's day. I also gifted her a Longchamp black leather logo bag just because. She was in love with it so why not.😘 I do a lot of restorations on vintage bag's and list them. It's been four year's now that I started this venture. It's been fun and I've learned so much. Now if I could only stop falling in love with the bag's I restore I'd be alright. Lol. I am keeping a Gucci Silver Sherry line that I adore......but still haven't used it yet.😁 That's just they way it goes for us ladies. Sometimes we just can't help it.
i just started the vid, but i stopped too. my reason is because i can take that $300 or $500 and SAVE IT to apply towards the bags i love more…ysl, givenchy, louboutin bags, pre-loved chanel, etc.
I used to see my contemporary and higher end bags as 2 separate entities but now I just see them all as my bags regardless of price. I’ll only buy a contemporary bag if I love it in its own right not as a dupe for something pricy
That is wise not to buy a dupe when you want the real thing. I can't see them as the same when for example my Longchamp XS was under $200 and my Puzzle was over 3k. I do love and use both though.
The lux prices are crazy and they are nof good investments, becoz not tht esay to liquidate. I think if you don’t want to collect just like bags.. Contemporary bags are ok. Gen Z they don’t care abt bags’ brands. Life is getting tougher and tougher ☺️
I'm with you except for Tory Burch, I have 3 of her bags and they are definitely more well made than Coach or Kate Spade. Her SLG's are also very understated and affordable. I gave up on Coach many years ago, they just are not my taste.
After all these years I know I still love Chanel and Dior the most. All other brands are just noises and I know now I shouldn't have even tried. Contemporary brands are also overpriced imho.. Owning max 2 for fun and daily is ok, not 10 of them
It's quite difficult to exercise self control over contemporary bags like polene especially when you get swamped by videos all the time. To be honest these contemporary bags are not exactly cheap. The money do add up. Now when I look at my bag collection, my regrets are the contemporary bags. Not my chanel or hermes.
I want to clarify that I am not selling anything, I am just sharing my collection. Have a wonderful day!
If you decide to sell were should we follow you to see that first. I have been keeping my eye out for the tan color
Left out coach Cassie in my first comment
@@lonnab07that is not the tan color which was not released in the states. What she has is taupe which you can buy on resale sites.
Sales are traps. Don’t buy anything on sale if you didn’t plan on buying it in the first place. 50% on sale is 100% of that money wasted if you didn’t plan/need it to begin with it.
Great advice.
I completely understand your perspective, but I think it depends on your financial situation, so I am opposite to you in that I will likely stick with coach and vintage pre loved from now on because I can’t justify the prices of luxury new, anymore
I totally understand that. And there are so many beautiful preloved pieces these days.

It is SO easy to get carried away with these cute affordable bags. I really try to stay away as once you start, it’s hard to stop. 😂😂😂
It really is! Darn cute things lol!

You bring up so many good points. I am so sucked into the sales too! Love your videos and your collection!
Thanks so much Amber!

I totally get what you are saying....I thought I'd see more of these types of videos from others; this was so Good. Beautiful Contemporary bag collection. Love your Lotties!🧡🍂
Thank you so much!🩷♥️🩷
Hi!What happened to your old channel?Anyways am glad you are back....Do they also make counterfeit on vintage *preluxz* ?
Melinda, I would love to see how and where you store your bags! You have a large collection and would like to see it displayed! 😊❤ I really enjoy your videos!
Thank you! I put a pic of how I store the contemporary ones on Instagram yesterday. :)
Thank you so much 🤗Xoxo
Yes i absolutely agree with you, when it is on sale and the handbag is so beautiful, it is really tempting and we tend to always compare it with the luxury brands and justifying how well made that is, with the fraction of Chanel. I am there too many times but because my budget is tight, luckily i did not get most of it. I do have quite a few contemporary ones already and also for sure LV, Chanel and YSL. Truely understandable 🤩
It's just too easy to keep buying these cute bags!
You got me on the last bag 🙏🏾❤ thank you for sharing.
I treasure my bag collection from years ago, furla, coach, dooney, and brahmin. I do rotate them. You have excellent taste!
Thank you! Sounds like you have a lovely collection!
I have a Coach bag circa 1999/2000. It is still great. I baby it because it is an ‘original’ made in U.S.
That is awesome! I love mine!
I get what you’re saying and it is so easy to keep buying with the fun colors and the sales. I love your moms pink Kate Spade bag and the story behind it. ❤
Thank you so much!
They are so easy to collect!
Such a touching story about your mother and how special her Bright Pink bag is to you, lovely video ❤️🌼
Thank you so much!
It's good to know what you like and stick to that! :)
Wow I was interested in the wizard of Oz sparkly coin purse
That is wonderful you are content! I need to get there! Oh one daughter is already telling me no to bags lol. Hopefully the other won't anytime soon.
I would love to buy your coach black backpack!
That is a forever bag.
Hi I love your videos and I'm glad you're back vlogging again. Are you planning to sell one of your Cassie Coach?
Thank you! No, I am not selling anything.
What a beautiful collection! I agree with you it’s so easy to keep buying!!!
I totally agree! Thank you!
I almost got into the Marc Jacobs tote bags but I knew I would not really use them.
I’ve managed to keep my Longchamp to 3, TB to 2 and Coach to 2. lol
The Lottie is such a great bag and the back pocket is useable unlike Chanel. Great choice!
I have the same coach red coin purse. Mine is never used too.
Well done Melinda 👏🏻🥰😘
Thank you so much 😀Xoxo
Can I buy the Black Cassie from you
I'm not selling anything.
I have consign many of my contemporary brands, at least you could get something back for your purchases in the past😊
Love this collection 💕💕💕
I stopped buying any brand, including luxury when it comes to bags. I enjoy my vintage bags which in my opinion are made better than todays bags. I reach more for my vintage Coach bags which are just as great in quality as my Hermes! BTW, I enjoyed this video :)
That Kate spade one in black brought back memories ❤
Contemporary bags are so tempting to buy a lot of bc so many of them are very practical and great for day to day. Off topic, can you tell me where you got the chain youre wearing with the diamond one?
I totally agree! Sure it is from Idyl: Solo: bit.ly/idyluxpurselovesolo It is the Solo 3 and if you use luxpurselove it is 10% off.
Oh I meant the other chain! Sorry.
@@elinlee9652 Oh sorry! That one is a non branded one I picked up at Costco last year.
Very pretty! Love the way it shimmers. ❤
Forty years ago, coach was the best thing out there as far as leather.
It really was wonderful.
While I’m still with contemporary, I can totally understand you.
It’s not snub ish. it’s going up in your handbag scale or expectations of quality.
I will buy the red coin purse from coach I have wanted on but can not find them
I gave it to my daughter this morning.
Beautiful contemporary bags collection ❤😊
Thanks love!
@@LuxPurselove your welcome
Sometimes we just can't help it.
please do a closet tour would live to see how you store your bags
I have a pic of these bags on Instagram I posted yesterday with how I store them.
i just started the vid, but i stopped too. my reason is because i can take that $300 or $500 and SAVE IT to apply towards the bags i love more…ysl, givenchy, louboutin bags, pre-loved chanel, etc.
You can also *invest* those funds into stocks. LVMH is currently down about 20% but that’s a part of the ebb and flow.
@@youheartmel trust me, i have plenty of stocks, but i also have a HANDBAG budget ☺️
Yes very true it adds up quick!
Bags are never investments IMO.
I'm with you except for Tory Burch, I have 3 of her bags and they are definitely more well made than Coach or Kate Spade. Her SLG's are also very understated and affordable. I gave up on Coach many years ago, they just are not my taste.
Coach has a bag $1800! It sold out.
Wow!!!😱
After all these years I know I still love Chanel and Dior the most. All other brands are just noises and I know now I shouldn't have even tried. Contemporary brands are also overpriced imho.. Owning max 2 for fun and daily is ok, not 10 of them
If you would like to sell the navy blue Kate Spade bag I would love to purchase it.
I do not have a navy blue Kate Spade.
Oh can I buy that from you??
Sorry, I am not selling.
So true! I almost bought a Polene bag I saw on Emily in Paris, it was so cute. They do add up in cost too, quite a lot!
If you don’t use those purses, you shouldn’t buy them again.
I stopped buying contemporary several years ago because they just sit there.
I love Coach outlet however I am no longer a fan of Kate Spade
