I really should have watched this before I tried ironing on wood...made numerous mistakes that I probably would not have made if I had watched this first! Thanks for all the good info!
Thanks again MGL, made a nice DTF sign for DIL, but put on iron on saying, I had painted it with White Chalk from FolkArt, so today I was upset when my letters would not stick. You answered the question. I had the adhered enough I am polycoating them later.
I strongly recommend a 160 grade to the sanding 220 it worth The money for a better quality sad paper. I've been working with wood cuting building sense a child lowes or home depot cand help you.
What do you recommend for sealing it? I make signs and bookstands but I want to be able to seal the htv design on them to where they won't be affected by anything
I made a wood round with a 4th of July cow and I painted it with white bear house paint and it worked great. I should have let it dry a little longer but it worked great.
Sandpaper was originally graded by how many rocks (grit) would fit on a square inch-so….the smaller the pieces, the more would fit. Imagine 1500 tiny pieces, and you’ll see why higher numbers result in smoother finish.
is it possible to sublimate on HTV on wood. Here is what I want to do. I have a wood round that I have stained and I want to put a sublimated design for a nursery on it. However the stain is a red oak and it is a little dark, so I wondered if I could create an off set around the design and cut the offset from HTV and sublimate the design on it so it shows up?
Also I was wondering if you cutout words and make a stencil or you use a stencil with alphabets is there something you can use to stick stencil to wood to paint the letters on
I’m making a lazy Susan and I bought an already stain lazy Susan and I’m going to iron on words on it but I was wondering if I can put a clear coat of something over it that won’t make letters come off
Where is the link to the video on you actually going through the process of sublimation on wood? I thought it was mentioned that it would be linked below?
If using a bamboo wood coaster or ceramic tile with htv do they need to be sealed first for protection against water from cup? If so should I seal before or after htv placement? Thank you!
Is it all Folk Art Paint that is an issue? I used the Folk Art chalk paint before trying to use HTV. I didn’t watch this first, and i failed miserably, however I was doing EVERYTHING you said not to do.
When you have TH-cam in small screen, look over to the right of the title block which is underneath the video. There’s a tiny arrow. Touch or click it, and you will see the attachments to which they refer.
HI was wondering if you can help me? I tried using HTV on a wood sign but when I removed the backing it left little yellow marks on the wood, any idea why this would happen? Thank You!!
@@ashleymatson6381 I gave up on doing it. I just started using the decals. I might try it again. Maybe I didn’t let the paint dry also, I don’t think I did actually.
@@smeg8557 I’m going to try again this week and let the paint dry over night. I was also using my large heat press and not the mini so maybe between those things it will work? I don’t know! I just want my stuff to look nice so I’ll keep trying I guess haha

To get rid of the blotchiness when staining your wood (especially plywood and select pine) put on a pre stain wood conditioner prior to staining.
Great tip, thank you!

I literally just did a lot of this! I cooked all of the paint on my round. I used my big heat press

Okay the heat is 300 how long do we need to apply the heat to the wood and do we need to preheat the wood? Thanks for the video!
So is it better to use regular vinyl on wood projects?

I don't see the links to the how-to do wood iron on?
Click the tiny down arrow right of the title of the video, this while your video is in small screen TH-cam rather than full screen.
Why don’t you use permanent vinyl instead? I did it on two projects and it worked well.
Stupid question… if I have black heat transfer vinyl can I put my vinyl on wood first and then stain the wood after?
Ty !
You're welcome!
Thanks Rachel. Miss seeing you ❤️
You're welcome!😊
Can I iron on wood then poly coat to use vinyl? Or can I just paint then be able to use both?
Brilliant video best video by far
Aww! Thanks so much!
I have a mouse sander, will that work or should I go get a block sander like you have?
Has anyone tried latex paint (the type of paint you would use on walls and ceilings)?
Thank you. Please one time with the sanding and good wood is enough.

Do I use parchment paper?
I'm not the great at sanding. Would I be able to have it sanded at the store? I usually go to either Home Depot or Lowe's.

Wow, thank you!
Do you need to seal htv when using on projects that will be used outdoors?
doesn't look like the links were added (I'm on a 32" screen so the "if you're on a small screen, do this" doesn't apply). Thanks for the video
What font is that on your t shirt please?
Why use htv over using permanent vinyl??
Can you please attach the links you said you would put below? Thank you in advance ☺️

I had the same thing happen. I’m wondering if I didn’t let the paint dry enough even though I thought it was dry I didn’t wait but a couple hours
