Thanks for the review. I just got both the Z mount 105 and the 50 macros. Sold my F mount 105 and 60 macros.

Completely agree with your comments on the 105mm Z MC. I've had mine since release and the performance is exceptional. The added advantage of using it as a portrait lens makes it a great addition to the bag.

yes, Becky, the 105 MC z mount lens is spectacular, as good a bokeh as my older 105 f2.8 Ai-S lens!!, BUT don't hand hold it!!- very sensitive, esp. in the macro area, when it comes to focus, aka a very small d.o.f. indeed.

The 50 fits the ES-2 Film digitizer.

Great show again thank you . The very best of explanations of the differences between Z and F on a 105 macro . I was so enthralled . You`re almost making me want to try out a Z . i thought every one of your images was superb . You are the best . And boy it was so good to see you back at stage right on an outdoor shoot Becky . Very relaxing for me thank you

105 z mount seems a clear winner in operation

Love your Vlog chats! I'm not into flower or insect photography, but still enjoyed watching the two of you demonstrate gear and techniques.

It would be nice if they had a function button on the side that would allow the ficus to speed up while you have button pressed in.

Auto focus for macro? Ever heard of lean to focus ? Some heavy noise in some of those photos. you should try a lower ISO with a diffused flash.

I have really enjoyed my Z 105. I managed to get right when it was released and it rarely has been off my Z6 II. I have always enjoyed macro lenses and this lens has been my favorite macro lens to date. That limiting switch is quite nice. …your comment on Z7 and this lens has me want info that too :).

Hello Both, Sorry I will miss you at the NEC this year, but we (that is me and the JCB, Wife) are went on the Saturday. So nice to meet up with people once more. Sad that Peter had been mede redundant from Nikon but good to see him free lancing for the Nikon team. Had a good catchup with Ricci and great to here about what Nikon are about to do. Even after my quick try with the 105mm MC Z mount lens I agree with Kon.. and your self that it does seen a very good lens. Yes I know that I have one on order but I am really looking forward to in arriving even more now. Keep well, keep safe and enjoy a slim down show at the NEC

The cat sanctuary and now the Butterfly House! This is great, I would really like reviewing the images. I shoot a lot of macro bugs so this was very interesting and informative. Thanks again

Review fully matches my experience. The old 105VR was still great on the Z6, but after moving to a Z7ii all the flaws started to show. The 105MC is sharper on the Z7 than the old 105VR was on the Z6. Autofocus has improved and I don’t have an issue with manual focus.

This probably a dumb question to ask, but can the new Nikon Z Macro shoot stills and do video recording? I thought Macro lenses were just for close ups. thank you

Wondering what would be you pick for DX / Z50, 50 or 105?

Does the Z 105 take a TC -- the original does.

Very useful review. I find I spend a lot of time taking close-ups of flowers, trees, and whatever catches my eye on my pedestrian travels. So far the 24-70mm f/4 S and the 50mm f/1.8 S have served the purpose pretty well, but I gather they are not as good as a true macro lenses.

Nice chat and comparison, thanks. Personally, I love "long focus throws" on lenses, but manual focusing on a Z lens is worthy of another video, I'd suggest. I believe a fast twist forces the ring to effectively travel further than a slow turn?
