When I went searching for the perfect BOOST pedal, money was no object. I just wanted the best sounding boost I could find! Mooer was the last place I expected to find this result. I tried about a dozen pedals at home through my own rig and narrowed it down to 2. The Xotic RC Booster and the Mooer Pure Boost. I picked the Mooer for several reasons but the biggest reason is this... The Mooer Boost sounds like a BOOST with Overdrive capabilities. Other pedals sounded like an Overdrive with Boost capabilities. That reverse approach gives a very different result. The first thing I noticed is that the High E, B an G string sounded really "thick and full" which allowed my soloing to be heard with incredible detail while maintaining nice warmth. I couldn't reproduce this "thickness" on the High strings on any of the other pedals I tested. When I turned up the Treble on the Mooer, my guitar became bright, focused and stayed pleasant to my ears. When I turned up the Treble on other pedals, my guitar became harsh and the tone was "thin". Same thing happened on the Low's. When I turned up the Bass on the Mooer, it was rich and deep but tight like a snappy kick drum. When I turned up the Bass on other pedals, it was dark, loose or muddy and playing individual notes got lost in the mix. Who ever engineered this pedal really knew what they were doing and it has exceeded my expectations!
KovaMusic This response is for SONGSTICKS and it may surprise you what I have to say. I'm the first person to admit when I'm wrong and guess what... I'm wrong. I haven't used my Mooer Pure Boost for about 6 to 8 months because I kept going back and forth between the TC Electronic Spark Booster and the Xotic RC Booster after I left my initial review. I felt they had better tone and dynamics. Nope. I was wrong. After living without the Mooer for a while, I got it out of storage and put it back on my pedalboard. I fell in love with the sound all over again and quickly realized it really is the best sounding Boost pedal out of all 3. The thing that jumped out at me the most it what I discovered in my first review. There's a "thickness" I hear in the strings of my guitar that I don't hear in the other two pedals. The other 2 pedals do a fantastic job but they don't have this specific characteristic. I also like where the frequencies sit in the mix of all the other instruments. Drums, Bass, Keyboards, Rhythm guitar ect... When I kick it on, it's VERY present but not harsh or shrill. It's surprisingly warm while being dynamic at the same time. I secretly walked away from this pedal after giving it a stellar review on TH-cam and used 2 other's for a while but I'm here to say... I was wrong. This pedal really is AMAZING and it's back on my pedalboard TO STAY!
+KovaMusic Is it able to boost the mids? Say you lower the treble and bass, but increase the volume, does that make the mid frequencies higher in the mix?
Vince, it's not so much a matter of adjusting the Bass and Treble to change the mid frequencies as much as it is just the characteristic of this pedal that makes it sound the way it does. It has a very specific Mid frequency I couldn't hear on any other pedal. No amount of adjusting will get another pedal to sound like this one and vice versa. This pedal has it's own specific personality. But I do admit that this is my perspective and what my ears are telling me. You could A/B all the pedals I have and hear something different. It's all perspective and personal taste.
I got one of these a few weeks ago to boost one of my basses. I have a fretted 6-string (passive) and a fretless 5-string (active), and I didn't want to be running around adjusting volumes every time I swap them out, which is often. The Mooer Pure Boost answered all my questions, and does the job perfectly. When I play the active bass the Pure Boost is off, and when I switch to the passive it takes two stomps - one on the A/B switch and one on the Boost - and in fifteen seconds I'm playing the other one. I love this pedal.
i bought one yesterday after i saw this video, i must say that was an amazing choice. i use boss md-2, and this pedal gives such a nice tone to that pedal, and also boosts in a beautiful way. ty Mike
Whoa, this sounds great! I've been on a tireless search for a boost or overdrive pedal, this definitely enters the ring. And for the price of just under $90, I think this might win.
I absolutely love this pedal. Bought it when they had a special deal and it has to be my favorite pedal on my board. Gives such a nice boost to my tone!
Everyone has commented on how good the playing is.. well here's another compliment, amazing playing man. I hope I can play like you some day. How is your knowledge of music theory if you don't mind me asking?
Are you able to boost the mids using this? Possible by lowering the bass and treble, while increasing the volume, to make the mids higher in the mix? Does that work, or do the bass and treble controls not have any unaffected frequency in between? Thanks
I know that's a somewhat old video but I have a question. I bought this pedal for my bass for a gig because I couldn't be heard above the drums and the guitar and we needed that. I didn't have the chance to test it yet cause my friend accidentally took my cable with him. Does it sound just as nice while plugged in a bass too? Does it add a bit overdrive or does it only boost sound (I really hope that's the case)
The break up is from the amp I believe. (Or my strat with Avn Traditional Kinman Pickups has less output and the Pure boost would react different to my strat. But I don't think so)
demo pedal booster + mini pedal display screen, but very odd, from the beginning of the video to finish the LED pedal looks dead, do you realize your pedal booster is off
I'm thinking maybe they've thumbed their noses at tradition and the LEDs light up when their pedals are "off". Maybe. Does anyone on here know for sure whether or not that is the case?
Do it all again please, but let us see what those electric fingers are doing! Cracking demo, cracking playing and cracking playing. I will get get one and have just sent the link to a mate.
I thought Andy is the best.. Until I saw you. Here's an idea, you should record all the instrumental cover version you've played and make a cd of it. I'm definitely buy it.
Oh yeah, how well would it work if you wanted to boost the gain a bit on a marshall?, i have my gain just over half way for bluesy tones, but when i go into shred mode how is it for just boosting it a bit? haha
Hey Mike, i have an over all good tone from my marshall stack, i have a mxr boost linedriver, but i would like to have alot more treble in my boost, would this be a better pedal for that or should i aim for a distortion or overdrive and lower the gain on my amp?
It's up to you. Do you want to boost your signal into the amp? (not recomended for dirty amps as distortion adds compression, so it won't add anything) or do you simply want to take your sound but make it louder? if so put it after. There's no real right or wrong, just experiment til you find the use you like!
Absolutely, depending how much gain you use from your amp. If there's plenty of headroom, put it in front of your amp, crank the output, and about halfway on gain, pushing the signal into the amp much harder, and pushing the amp gain harder. Alternatively, you could put it in the FX loop straight after the preamp, and use it for a gain and volume boost, be but aware you'll completely change the sound coming out of the amp more towards the sound of the overdrive pedal, and may sound like a completely different tone. But there's no right or wrong, play around and most importantly do what sounds right to you ma
If any one could please reply that would be great....Would this pedal help make my distortion pedal heavier? Like lets say I have other distortion pedal engaged and want to add more gain, will this help? Thanks, and great playing, even if it doesn't do what I hope it'll do, I'll still buy it!
Mike we want to see the person behind the name occasionally, you are as slick of a guitar player as anyone I've heard.....you are stupid good for sure....ridiculous!

Thanks for that comment, you've convinced me.
Although this video had already done that, but it's good to hear a second review.
Cheers

KovaMusic Sound advice (excuse the pun) Cheers

If it's good enough for the current ac/dc tour, it's good enough for me!! Must get one. Cheers.
Finally a reviewer who is a great player!
Wow...really nice review. No fluffing around, very clear and great playing. Gratz!
i bought one yesterday after i saw this video, i must say that was an amazing choice. i use boss md-2, and this pedal gives such a nice tone to that pedal, and also boosts in a beautiful way. ty Mike
Outstanding review. Pure, clean, clear and simple. Great job. Just when I was about to return this boost, I’m now deciding to keep it.
why were you going to return it initiqlly?
That was one of the most beautiful chord progressions that i have ever heard on the intro!
Look up for "Don´t Know Why" by the amazing Norah Jones
Norah Jones in the intro, beautiful!
Whoa, this sounds great! I've been on a tireless search for a boost or overdrive pedal, this definitely enters the ring. And for the price of just under $90, I think this might win.

It is turned off the whole time. :|
It's a great little tone shaper for sure!
-Mike
Love this guys guitar playing, It's such a joy to listen to.
Not too flashy, just good rock solid music !
Nice one Fella :0)
I have this and compared it to the EP Booster and it sounds just as good and provides better control for less money. No brainer for me.
You can really play that guitar! Great demo and great tone from your hands!
Beautiful rendition of Norah Jones at the start, kudos!
Sounds like Don't Know Why by Norah Jones in the beginning. Great demo, just purchased this and cannot wait!!
just beautiful playing, amazing sound. thanks for a great review.
I wonder if this would work for my acoustic when I solo? I lose volume when I go from rhythm to lead. Just need a little boost....
The yellow at the end is epic
Norah Jones at the start sounded brill, well done sir.
depends, If you want more gain to you solos before an overdrive.. if you just want pure volume boost after overdrive
My girlfriend got this for my Birthday from you guys! I was always showing her your demos :P
Yes. you can set to unity and add grit and bass
where is it used best? after an overdrive or before and overdrive? i want to boost my overdrive BTW. thanks! great playin man! :D
Can this be like a treble booster? Sounds great from what I'm hearing/seeing
As always, great playing and great sounds.
Everyone has commented on how good the playing is.. well here's another compliment, amazing playing man. I hope I can play like you some day. How is your knowledge of music theory if you don't mind me asking?
this guy is amazing, I really like your videos, an inspiration to play and buy such equipment.
It's like an EP booster with mini EQ's. I wonder how much +db's does it give?
Great video, thank you very much 🙂
Those specs look smack on what the Xotic RC Booster does. The finish matches that too.
Does it also add compression?
Are you able to boost the mids using this? Possible by lowering the bass and treble, while increasing the volume, to make the mids higher in the mix? Does that work, or do the bass and treble controls not have any unaffected frequency in between? Thanks

great demo ~
great playing!
0:47 - 1:22 really like it

is the breakup at 1:00 from the pedal or the (pushed) amp?
Hi, i really like your guitar and tone too. When you play gold on les paul guitar, what is the backingtrack you are playing? I would also try.
Do it all again please, but let us see what those electric fingers are doing! Cracking demo, cracking playing and cracking playing. I will get get one and have just sent the link to a mate.
Yellow!! :) Great, great rendition.
prymaxe HI, was wondering if you take requests, or do you only demo new or newer pedals nowadays ? i have a few requests ~wd
Nice demo as usual. Can I fatten my clean tone without increasing the volume?
I thought Andy is the best.. Until I saw you.
Here's an idea, you should record all the instrumental cover version you've played and make a cd of it. I'm definitely buy it.
awesome guitar playing. the pedal sounds fantastic!
Thanks for your favor~
Can you recommend me the Pure Boost or the Hustle Drive to drive an Amp's Dirty Channel into High Gain?
Thanks, I appreciate it!
-Mike
Finally! Cheers for this!
hi, quick question.. can i use this pedal only for soloing?activating it for solo mode?
Thanks so much!
-Mike
I have T rex mean machine and for me it hasn't enough gain. Will the boost help?
did you not have the pedal on for half the video? the light wasn't on for half of it
Norah Jones
whats the noise like on this? did you use add a suppressor in post-production?
good playing man!
Oh yeah, how well would it work if you wanted to boost the gain a bit on a marshall?, i have my gain just over half way for bluesy tones, but when i go into shred mode how is it for just boosting it a bit? haha
So good. These pedals are going to really sell by the shit loads. They sound terrific and are affordable.
can it make the tone fatter?
He should team up with Andy and Phil X for the ultimate youtube supergroup!
Hey Mike, i have an over all good tone from my marshall stack, i have a mxr boost linedriver, but i would like to have alot more treble in my boost, would this be a better pedal for that or should i aim for a distortion or overdrive and lower the gain on my amp?
best demo's on the net!
What were you playing in the beginning?
good demo. thanks
Thanks. It's a Sure sm57
want one of these.... Does boost come before or after overdrive, I have a Paramount by Emerson?
It's up to you. Do you want to boost your signal into the amp? can you use the Paramout as a clean boost ?
Absolutely, depending how much gain you use from your amp. Thanks for watching!
-MIke
Thanks!
Thanks
Will it boost without distorting?
Yes, it does.
I guess it will with gain all the way down and volume up?
It will if you plug it into the amp's fx loop (if your amp's got one of course)
Thanks for watching!
thanks!
amazing playing and nice sound!
but probably in your hands would sound great also a shoe box :)
If any one could please reply that would be great....Would this pedal help make my distortion pedal heavier? Like lets say I have other distortion pedal engaged and want to add more gain, will this help? Thanks, and great playing, even if it doesn't do what I hope it'll do, I'll still buy it!
Yes pretty much any booster or overdrive set proper Infront of your other distortion will make it go wild in a good way
Love mine !

Yes it will, and very well.
Norah Jones tunes.. "Don't know why"

おお、don't know whyや

whats the difference between the flex boost and the pure boost???
Thanks
