I've found the Sector to be a superb flats rod. It is an accurate rod to 60-80' yet offers a very soft presentation to the fish- something that is paramount for success.

funny that you only give it 8/10 in distance.. if you watch NordicAnglers review he casts the whole line with one single pull and then its off to the horizont!

Could you add the 8.4ft #8 Sector to the review and compare with the 9ft version?

Hi Ben. Would you happen to know if the Scott Sector 8 wt is lighter than the Sage R8 salt 8 wt in terms of weight overall and swing weight? Thank you!

So they took the Meridian and made it softer and less powerful and want it so be a top contending saltwater rod?

If true, that would be nice. There are too may "fast" action rods.

Nice review, Ben,. Have you done reviews on the Sage Igniter? (In the 9wt category) if not, what’s your opinion? Thank you.

      Hi Cachi,
We've reviewed the 8wt version of the Igniter but not the 9wt. That being said, we have cast the rod and it's really high-performing. Definitely faster than other rods in the series - doesn't have much feedback and feel - but really casts a fly line long distances. It's not the most forgiving rod so timing is important but if you're an experienced caster it's a great choice for windy conditions and large flies.

Trident Fly Fishing Thank you for replying. Yes, I have cast a 5 or 6wt a year ago under super windy conditions and after casting a Loomis IMX Pro, I believe, I was impressed with the Sage rod, loaded with a Big Nasty fly line. I was stunned at how effortlessly I could cast into a head wind, almost 80 feet. Funny thing is, I don’t normally like super stiff rods such as the Method which I tried the year before and I could not cast that rod. Perhaps the Igniter paired with that particular fly line worked for me.
I am looking for a saltwater rod for Permit or baby Tarpon which can get the job done under windy conditions.

I'm sorry, I love your reviews and all but when you mention putting and handling long lengths of line in the air, I start to wonder about whether you actually realize how you would want to cast. To get 80ft out, you'd honestly only need to put a little more than the 30ft shooting head in the air when false casting. The rod does the rest. There is simply no point in false casting with large lengths of line in the air - that's asking for trouble.

That’s an incredibly inaccurate comment - 30 feet out of the rod tip to get 80’? Nope. Even a shooting head wouldn’t accomplish this.

7,9,11 is what you are looking for. Gotta help you out here:
      7: Bonefish/Streamer for Trout
9: Peacock/Dorado/Permit (Also for big bonefish in deep water)
11: Tarpon/Arapaima/GT (Arapaima is nowhere near the other two mentioned)

favorite Saltwater rod: Orivs 3 D 10wt 9' Casts with the east of a 9wt. A little softer than the 8wt and other 10wts, but if you can slow your cast down a little, can perform really, really well. I like the 8wt also. The 9wt surprisingly does not compare well with other 9wt rods.
