Since seeing Mavericks for the first time in 94, I can’t remember a winter like this. So consistent and big and favorable. Insanity. Glad for all of the water patrol and communication. Thanks Powerlines!
Goodness gracious... a connection made back to the past, heard as a child from parents or grandparents... the waves here are something special. They are huge and the water is always cold, and the ocean throws its focused energy into spots along coasts all over the world. Some places just continually crank out some serious winter swell, and this Is one of those spots that has all the elements, too make it top 5 in the 🌎.
The shots looking at the shoreline are so intimidating. The best I've done is stood on the shoreline and watched. I consider myself to be a decent surfer but no way am I paddling out there. The support teams are amazing. Mad respect to everybody in the water, especially this winter.
Well Done Powerlines Production . Its neat to hear a surfers words concerning a wipeout . Having People care about Others is Awesome . Deep Bow to The Brotherhood .

Great commentary. Great job keeping people safe. Hope that dude on the last wipeouts doing alright.. And I thought my Wipeouts on 6 foot waves sucked.. Damm bro
Riding with nature's powerful forces is something to be reckoned with, and truly deserving of a global Olympic sport, I imagine some multi sport guy (skateboard, surfer) ie. has a nice day surfing then jumps on a skateboard rolls over with a false sense of motion to the opstacle then grinds his chins away xD
The buoy beats starting at 17:00, kind of like the Tibetan Chant for the Dead. How bout a whole album?!!? Wow . . . Can't find anything else on TH-cam from @freehombre1 or Steve Freeman.
2:11 I Like This Commentator. I've Heard Him On Other Mavericks' Videos Unaffiliated With Powerlines And He Seems To Both Commentate And Help The Lifeguards Locate Fallen Surfers (He Speaks Both To The Camera And Walkie Talkie When Doing This). He Seems Very Affable And Light-Hearted.

anybody watching thinking about paddling out in these conditions for a "solo sesh"? No takers, nobody? Now grasp this tough guy, Jeff Clarke surfed out there solo, for 10 years! Thats right, paddled out, and surfed alone for 10 years! #madrespect JC!
@@Bob_Sage Thanks for letting me know that @Bob Sage. However if there was more than 1, its truly not a solo sesh, and I am referring to Jeff Clarke going solo, alone for 10 years! No inflatable vest, no jet skiis, no spotter on the clifs, Nothing!
Here at the Space Coast fl I had 9 to 13 ft clean suf at Playalinda last Yr Jan . We rarely get big bombing surf . I made it out easy 14 sec and caught a few nice ones . Then I was late and cart wheeled down the face getting pounded . It felt Mortal that day . I came up got back out and laughed knowing the rest of my surf would be easy after swimming through a few . 7:20 Towing his board by the leash reminds me of the time I was plucked out of the water by a police helicopter. The helicopter lowered a net down that I climbed into and all the way back to the beach my board was dangling below spinning like a mad thing in the rotor wash.
El Granada in the house! Princeton Ave in the house! Mavericks and Pillar Point is my backyard for real. I look out my bedroom window and their is the Bay! My man Jeff Clark found this place "Mavericks paddleboards" in The House! These huge waves break way out their like a quarter mile or more. Man locals will paddle all the way out there through all the mush just to rides these huge walls of really cold water. This place is insane! Do not try to rides these waves if you are not totally 100% ready to ride the waves of a lifetime! for real yo!
This was the same day 12-year-old Arunay Pruthi was swept away by a rogue wave and out to sea at Cowell Ranch State Beach in Half Moon Bay. The CG suspended S&R ops, but the family is still searching for his body.
Please don't attack me for asking but I've often wandered if mavs is makeable on a bodyboard? It's almost impossible to find footage of my fellow boogsliders on it. Is that because it's simply not possible to get the speed to make the section, and it's basically froggy suicide or does the local vibe come into play too? (by the way I am busy learning to surf because I want to ride big waves one day and the bodyboard is not suited to many big waves spots)
It's Complicated. There have been several Bodyboarders to have gotten a wave at Mavericks. One was a guy from New Jersey the other a Local Grrl. I think Judith Sheridan Body surfing was the Only person to (sucessfully ride?) Mavericks and I think in the Best of circumstances she barely pulled it off. Mavericks has a Lot of water moving and to get momentum on a wave/swell moving at 25+knots AND then to Tower at 20+ is a Challenge in itself to Drop In... Good Luck! (Just Sayin')
@@ericnelson5825 Thanks for the intel and histroy brother! Appreciate it. Yeah, the odds are not in favour of boogy success on those giant lumps for sure hahaha. I will stick to the long term goal of surfing it someday.
Can somebody tell me why you rarely if ever see any bodyboarders out there? Can they just not move fast enough to catch the waves? Maybe the surfers object to their presence.

The narrative after the wipe outs are really good. Giant wave videos have to do more of these.
