This extraordinary outcrop of Paleozoic sediments extends from its base up through the Devonian Ohio shale, Bedford shale, Beria Sandstone and Sunbury shale; Mississippian Grainger formation, and Newman limestone; the transitional Mississippian through Lower Pennsylvanian Pennington formation; the Lower Pennsylvanian Lee formation of the Lower and Middle Pennsylvanian Breathitt Group. It is located at Pound Gap at the crest of the Pine Mountain Thrust on US 23 at the state borders of Virginia and Kentucky just to the south of the town on Jenkins Kentucky.

I'm from Nova Scotia coal country, we have similar formation to what was presented here. Thank you

That's because Nova Scotia is basically a continuation of the Appalachian mountains and has a lot of the same geologic features present in the Appalachians due to them being so close together on the earth and experiencing the same experiences throughout the years minus some of the lower Appalachians not seeing glaciers for the most part.

21:14 , I wouldn't say that it wouldn't be a very worth while seam to mine. Maybe on an industrial level, but not on a small scale, individuals needs type of level. A small seam like that could give anyone who has a small business or has a house that's heated by coal a way to get it for free, minus their labor and save some money for their business or even make some money by collecting and selling coal samples for classroom demonstrations and for teaching. The possibilities and uses are almost endless when you really think about it. You just can't do anything huge or industrially sized with it is all. 🙂

Pine mountain is the west side of the cumberland block id love to see something on it! Its so obvious on google earth or a topographic map. I'd also love to see a document on the saint Clair faultline as well cuz it run into the cumberland block plus it is just west of me. Thanks for this video

You're very rude. Your lack of punctuation makes you highly unqualified to judge someone else's ability to make videos and you should not criticize anyone if you can't even write your sentences correctly.... 🤦
