Looking good John! I would be inclined to install new brake pads and de-glaze the rotors. The oily substance could be leaching out of the old pads when they heat up during use! Good luck!
When finished please do a comparison video between this and your other gs1100s. I just love the styling of this bike and you have me looking for one. Lol.
My buddy rewinds big industrial electric motors, and taught his wife how to rewind Suzy rotors. She had a lot of extra spending money for the 1990s decade.
I'm sure. I've replaced so many Suzuki electrical systems that it's a quick, easy job by now. The good news is that once replaced, they haven't given further issues. Cheers!
I'm going to second the just replace the brake pads. Once they're soaked with grease/oil and heated it's down deep in the pad material. Good time to upgrade to EBC HH pads.
Jon, I have the exact same bike but in the 750. Same color scheme, and I love it! I am wondering if you could give me your recommendation. The bike takes along time to "warm up" even in extremely hot temperatures. Meaning I have to leave the choke on for the first 5 mins of the ride or the bike will die when coming to a stop. Is this a common carb issue? Do I need a good carb cleaning in your opinion? Rejetting? Do you have a recommended resource for cleaning these particular cabs? Love the channel!
I would recommend going one size up on your pilot jets. That should cure the cold-blooded nature of the bike. I usually clean the carbs myself. Cheers!
I had the same issue with the charging on my 82 1100e. I took the cover to find the taper on the crank had worn out causing the flywheel to not turn, or turn occasionally. I’m certain this isn’t the issue with yours. Bring it has low miles
@@andrewnewman6510 Wow! That sounds involved and pricey. Have you looked at simply replacing the motor? I guess that's a gamble as well. Good luck with it!
Just curious when you get done with complete restoration, restoring the bike completely, will you be selling it or adding it to your collection I had this exact bike back when it first came out, I might be interested in owning it again if that's something that you do after restoring this GS1100?
This is more of a question than comment. I’m bringing a 1981 GS1000g back to life and have electrical issues.Think it might be cdi box.Does anyone make these for my bike?
Ok thanks Jon,I already did get a used one and made no difference so guess you’re right it’s something else.Carbs have been in and out several times checked and rechecked, new wires, coils and valves adjusted. All this has been done by a guy with lots of experience.Really stumped.
Another worthwhile project !
Thanks!
The bike is getting better and better , more smiles per mile .
It's on the lift now getting the new stator and other services. 🙂
What a beautiful machine! I look forward to future videos.
Thanks, Jim!
A difference in styling between the 81 and 82 models. Great looking bike, Jon. Enjoyed the video and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
Yep. Totally different bodywork.

If this round of cleaning doesn't cure it, that will be my next step. Cheers!
I really love the 2 tone blue on this bike! What great project. Sure wish the XS 850 I’m going through was as clean as yours! Great upload Jon
Thanks, Russ!
gd ole bike jon . brill.
Thanks, David!

Right on, Joey! I plan to as soon as I get it finished up. Cheers!

Hola Jon. Vista de costado y a pesar de los años se la ve realmente hermosa. Saludos
¡Gracias Ricardo!

I don't disagree. I just want to make sure I'm not contaminating new pads. Cheers!

Nope. It was the stator. Were you able to fix yours?
It’s a work in process.
The crank has to come out and built up and machined back to size.

The CDI boxes usually don't go bad. You should be able to pick up a used one if you can't find a new one. Cheers!

@randynancywarkentine2810 Compression, fuel, and spark. It's not getting one of those. Sorry I couldn't help. I wish you the best with it.
John would you sell bike I will pay you what ever as mine was stolen
I'm sorry to hear that, Rick! If I decide to sell this Suzuki GS1100E, I will post a video on this channel. Cheers!
