TRANQUIL PLEIN AIR Oil Painting || Journey down an Australian River | Painting, camping, happy days

  • Today I'll be painting right on the edge of an Australian inland river. My subject will be the beautiful River Red Gums that line many of Australia's river systems. The River Gum can grow right down on the waters edge, making it a fantastic subject for painting tranquil water reflections. I will be using thick impasto oil paint and palette knifes, working direct from the subject (en plein air) with a large stretched, clear primed Belgian linen canvas.
    Sit back and enjoy the process, while I create and explain my thoughts on technique, colour mixing, tonal values and composition as I go!

    Gee I enjoy coming with you to watch you paint. I’ve just recently bought headphones so I can listen rather than read subtitles (while my husband watches TV). I love the music you’ve chosen as well. The only trouble is, this time, you made me laugh out loud so often - I just couldn’t hold it in. Have you thought to try to get your videos onto TV? Honestly you are really so entertaining.
    From a painting perspective I really feel like I’m learning so much from you. Yet to see if I can put it into practice. I’m gradually buying paint. Your work is so very much alive. I could feel the wind whipping up that little bit of blue on the water towards the shore. Ahhh thank you once again. Hope loads of good things happen for you this coming year.

    Yet another great bush river scene... you certainly have the knack Richard! All very inspiring and full of generous instructions. The capture of bush serenity and colours are so tangible.
    I have now started using a pallet knife to learn your technique....of course I have trouble ‘seeing’ what you do.
    We are off on a painting trip to the Flinders next autumn to have a go!
    Perhaps for your international audience, you might like to hint at your location?
    Thanks again Richard.

    Love that you included the tarp blowing down. These are the kinds of things we run into and that's why I so enjoy your videos Richard....they are real. The painting is stellar, as usual. Your addition of phalo blue ("fatal blue" we call it. cause it's so very powerful) is making your paintings even better ( if that's even possible since they are always top notch). I cannot tell you how much I have learned from your videos. It always puts a smile on my face to see a notification that you've uploaded a new one. Paintings that large, in that time frame, at your level of quality...seem impossible. Well done.

    Hey Richard! Glad to see you out and about again! I knew plein air painting could be insightful and exciting - but I never knew it could be so dangerous (Tarp & painting knife)! I really appreciate your in depth explanations of color and temperature choices in this video! I'm pretty much stuck in the studio right now, but I feel the freedom and sunlight in your videos. Thankfully, the wind doesn't blow my easel over indoors! Ha! Keep at it brother! There are a bunch of us out here cheering you on...

    Wonderful painting, but mostly I just wanted to say how much I liked the opening scene with the orange sky and river reflection. It looked awesome, but I suspect it's not the sort of scene that lasts long enough to paint outside the studio.

    Really beaut, I’m wondering what material you use as a pallet and what you do with the left over paint after you finish? I watch you ladle the paint out of the tin, and can’t help comparing it my own less generous method. I use the same brand but from a small tube, perhaps I need to adopt a more robust approach, free things up so to speak. I very much like your style of getting the paint on the canvas and worrying about detail later. Thanks looking forward to the next one, regards from

    • @richardmusgrave-evans9886
      @richardmusgrave-evans9886  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Alan! I use 5mm marine plywood for my palette. Any leftover clean paint I put back in the tin before it sets. You can also store unclean paint in some kitchen cling wrap! Thanks again, cheers buddy :-)
