I just bought and 82 yesterday. Potentially one of the worst purchases ive ever made. But this video will be a godsend. Half of my vac lines and carb are completely wrong, hopefully I can get it running this week. Thank you for making this video.
I thought you lived in Alaska! Then I read comments.. thank you for this detailed video! 🙏🏻 I have 1986 Nissan 720 manual and I'm new to it all! Would love to watch more videos you make on your vehicle maintenance and projects.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you liked the video! I'll have some more videos coming up for the truck, I'm going to do a 1 year review, some tuning tips, and eventually I'm planning a 5.3 swap in this truck!
Appreciated your toot on Weber install. I just finished the install on my 83 720 and relied a fair amount on your video. I have a single vent that runs to the exhaust manifold. It fit into the air cleaner canister on the original setup. I bent over the rubber hose and wired tied it for now. I see you put a plug into the exhaust manifold. Do you know what size that plug is? I can also pull off the old line and take it in to a hardware store, but if you know off hand, I can get the plug first. Thx again.
Thank you! And yes, it should be almost exactly the same on your 82, as long as it has the Z24, I don't know for sure on the Z22, but I would think it'd be pretty similar
did you end up having to bend a wrench too or did you know what and have on the correct tool needed to remove and tighten the bolts holding the carburetor down? BTW i have 3 of these trucks 2 are 84s 1 is 85. 1 of the 84s is 2wd the other 84 is 4x4.
@@atomolson5697 ok i never could get everything tightened down without bending the wrench i was just hoping there was a better solution i was missing. i have some crows feet maybe there might work but i still need to find the 4 bolts i took of last year or 4 years ago now lol.
@@atomolson5697 got a 10 new nuts and washers i was working on shooting a video of my 1985 Nissan 720 that i have tore apart cause of rotted out frame.
Pops just installed one and has some issue with idle while approaching a stop. Engine would start bogging down ready to die. Not sure how to correct this issue
Manual transmission. Truck did not have this issue with the OEM carb. The mechanic that installed the unit made an adjustment to the idle which resulted in a ready high idle after warm up. Truck is located in a different state from me so makes it difficult to troubleshoot. Thanks again for your reply.🤙🏽
Hey, I live on Idaho as well and own a 1980 Datsun 720 (its my second one). I live in the Boise area. I'd be down to connect with you cause I def could use more friends with a datsun.
@@atomolson5697 Yea, This is my second one and my big project truck. I got it for 1500 with only 160k on it which I think is a steal. I think I've seen maybe 2-3 people in Idaho with one and don't know why. I love this truck lol
@@calstatelaalproductions2358 post in the Facebook group, Nissan 720 Owners. There's a lot of great guys in there, and I know many live in California and have done this swap
I went from 25/31 to 20/24 but I never properly leaned it out. I'd bet you could get 23/27 on the same setup as me. The thing is, the barrels are wider and you don't pull as much vacuum from these as the stock carb, so fuel atomization isn't as good.

Did the same for my 2 Datsun 521 trucks equipped with the L16 and L20b engines. They start easy and run great now.
Nice video!!

Atom, do you know why my engine turnos sparkplug #2 dark black like smoked black? And what should i need to do to fix the plroblem?

Unfortunately I don't know that one off the top of my head. Best of luck to you! Glad the video helped!
Good stuff have the same truck
I have a 720 that will not lower its idle, what should I try?
You missed the entire part of you Installing the damn carb hahaha. I’m stuck at the part right about now
I really appreciate this video! Atom Olson, any idea if this is the same kit and process that can be used on my ‘82 720?

Dope. My dad has a 83 and the carburetor is shot. How much different is this install vs OEM carburetor?
Dose that carb came with one adapter or 2 , I. Bought it from part geeks 2 and I don’t know if it’s missing an adapter or it should be 2
The valve that takes place of the port that is left when removing the anti-backfire valve is incorrect? What did you use?
did you figure this out? im trying to figure out the same issue.

I was able to get an open ended box wrench in there, just feeler tightened them down with blue locktight

1981 Dyson 720 only will stay running is screwdriver is stuck into a spark plug wire and screwdriver is touching the valve cover what's the problem
Sounds like an issue with the spark system. I'd go through and replace wires, cap and rotor, and coil, in that order.

Is this retrofit allowed in California because of emissions components removal?
I would think no, but my 85 didn't have a cat on it when I got it, I'm not sure if you have to pass smog in one of these
@@atomolson5697 mine still has to pass smog every two years. And mine does have a catalytic converter.

I'd be surprised if it did, there are no emissions testing in my area, so I never needed to
