    That is interesting to find that in this same time period we here in west coast of Finland had also knife figters, they were mean guys and alot of songs and stories about them are preserved. There's still same knife maker family making same knives as in the 1850's and these are highly collectable, you can find these from Les Ristinens books

    Bowie knives and knives in general are still very useful even to an untrained person. If it’s well crafted,in the hands of a skilled person it can do many a great things. We as a people have lost our skills that have made us who we are today. However knives 🔪 have been around for millennia and are still here today.

    That was the guy Mohammad Ali was named after ,who was a great Bowie Knife fighter , his father named him that because of a famous man that lived in that town. That was Ali first , middle and last name.

      Yup, I think his father was named after the knife fighter (since he was an abolitionist) and Mohammad was a Jr before he changed his name.

      And then he got all swj, and changed his name from an anti=slavery abolitionist, to the muzzie slave traders that sold his family.

    I wonder if there's anything about native American knife fighting and fighters. Might be an interesting project.

    when i look at the bowie knives, they look like another form of seax to me. they remind me very much of an Anglo-Saxon "broken back" -seax

    • @PhilBaumhardt
      @PhilBaumhardt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some bowies and anglo saxon seaxes have precisely the same blade shape.

      @@PhilBaumhardt Exactly, that's what I mean. i think the way of leading the blade in battle will be very similar

    The real bowie knife is the Rezin Bowie knife . Probably the closest knife to the sandbar knife is the Schively which resides today in the Old capital museum in Jackson Mississippi .

    The more reliable the firearms the shorter the fighting knife blade. Yehaa from East TN
