    I'm so glad I watched this video a few weeks ago. At the time I didn't practice it, but yesterday I was forced to learn how to do this while out on the road. I'd've been flipped off my bike by a pot hole if I hadn't bunny hopped over it. Thanks GCN

    1 question only...where is bunny hop in this vid!?

  • @andrewyoung9043
    @andrewyoung9043 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    To Buny hop you need to jump yourself first, the trick is to pull the bike up with you. Front wheel is easy just pull up, the back wheel will then lift if you push the bars forward and up - away from the center of gravity of the bike. If you do this right the peddles will rise under your feet as you pull them up (even flat pedals). Key point if you have any weight pushing down on you pedals the back wheel will not lift!!!
    Honed the skill many years ago on bmx. Clips do allow you to pull the back up with your feet, essential if you're trying to hop with paniers!

      And there’s the infinite xp you get

    So I just tried this, and it worked! Mind you, I am lifting off about 3 cm from the ground, but I was finally able to get both wheels off.
    For those having a lot of trouble like I did, I tried for a long time with my heavy commuter and I was never able to lift up the back wheel. So I put on some running shoes and tried on my light road bike (without clipping in) and I was able to lift the back wheel fairly easily.

    If anyone is having trouble with the back wheel, make sure your shoes have good grip on the pedals, and right after you lift the front wheel, try leaning forward a little and doing the scoop motion shown in the video.

      hey kid im from England me and my mates have our own track built out of mud all you have to do when you've lifted the front is lean forward and hop

    • @CookiesUnleashed
      @CookiesUnleashed 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Lean forward, make sure your chest is ahead of your handlebars, then scoop up your pedals with you feet. Basically to get this technique, put one foot on the ground and kick your pedal backwards and the front wheel should come up. Then do it with both feet.

  • @emilkallese9757
    @emilkallese9757 11 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    instead of leaning forward when you have the freontwheel in the air, try to use the scooping technique to pull the upward with your feets. That will help to jump higher and land on both wheels instead of landing only frontwheel (it can hurt your wrist). My bunnyhop record is 120cm. (On a trialsbike)

  • @ollesniper
    @ollesniper 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    its pretty easy, just you have pedals that gives some grip then. i use to tilt my feets front words and press them to the pedals and then its just to lift your legs with some power! and lifting the hole bike is like doing a wheelie and doing the back wheel thing at the same time! you will have a lot of funn! :D

    Thanks Martin, worked on it and cracked - pretty well I think - but like your video my movements are two distinct movements. What I'm struggling with is getting the rear wheel up whilst the front wheel is still in the air - any tips on how to move to this next stage?

    • @gcn
      @gcn  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rob Pratt - think of it as a smooth process. Get the two individual parts down. Work on it as a process - lift the front wheel and as it's in the air try and bring the rear up. If you can do it in two parts, you can do it as one, it'll just be a matter of practice.

  • @gcn
    @gcn  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The thing is, if you're using clips you end up with bad technique as you're just jumping and lifting the bike up under you. It is much easier, but it's not a real bunnyhop that allows you to get much more air to get over larger obstacles.

  • @rohnakp2396

  • @xxjacobxx3
    @xxjacobxx3 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    cool. I learned to bunny hop by lifting the handle bars and getting momentum then swinging them front-down to catapult the back wheel in the air. This may not be as safe if the front tire digs in to something first when you land, but scooping with the feet makes me feel like my knees are going into the ground and my chest into the handle bars.

    Poor martins in a wheelchair now great to see a video of him riding tho

  • @scottstevens340
    @scottstevens340 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    maybe it's international translation? but that is more a "Bronco" move. As the animal does (youtube bucking broncos to see) that is where the motion became the name of the move. with both wheels temporarily of the ground together (front first) like the animal does when trying to send the human off him in competitions. I myself am a New Yorker, but I am aware Wild Horse competitions competitions are big in the States. I think of a bunny hop as pulling strait up, both wheels together, like the big jump shown in the video. Does not need to be that far but both wheels. Bronco= front then back, both temporarily in air together.
    great video, thanks for another. I have watched all of them. 👍👍

    just go out and practice, once you get it it's pretty simple, but it takes a lot of practice to get there, the main idea though is to point your toes a bit down and do a scooping motion with your feet i guess. Idk it'll make sense once you start practicing, but it is very possible to do without clippons

    A bunny hop is when both wheels come off the ground at the same time staying level throughout the process. And a J-Hop is when you lift the front wheel and push forward to get back wheel off the ground with the front.. J-hopping is much easier.

    you dont need fixed shoes to bunnyhop. it works with all kinds of pedals. important is to put ur body weight onto the handle bar. bend your toes downwards a bit and push back and up. then bend your knees slightly to give it more air. dont forget to put your bodyweight on the handlebar else you can slip off the pedals and hurt yourself.

      Matt Warriner I dont use clips on any bike i own (or have owned), my tips are for are
      1) Skate style shoes- very helpful when and/or if you lose your footing on pedals when doing it
      2)Pedals- pedals with raised bumps or pegs are what will hold your shoe in very well (if your pedals are very worn out flat thats no bueno)

      Boots work great too, change the seat to be lower, you can only get as high as the seat allows before it hits you in the butt.
      and give it time, i did BMX and i couldn't bunny hop what so ever, but after time (and looking at other people do it) it got easy...

    • @stefanRastocky
      @stefanRastocky 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Technological_Alexander it is all about technique and training. Rear wheel should be liftes by pressure to handlebars. once they are up (with front wheel) you should press back on them while putting your weight forward. Your back wheel comes up naturally. Correct me if i am explaining it wrong, but that's the way i jump for quite a long time.

    He says that you may not lift up your front and back wheel at the same time, but what if you, like in a bike race (reaching over 45Km/h), have to jump over something? I just lift up both wheels...

    Yes you can lift rear wheel with out them being clipped in.

    First time I tried it I didn't do the back wheel step I just already knew how to list the front wheel then I just went for the whole thing and got a pretty good cut on my leg from my feet coming down and missing the pedal

    Having a background in BMX makes this easy on a road bike
