It is at this time I realize, "The Carpenter" is not the name of the combat role. It's the nickname of that man in battle; for his weapon of choice is the giant Carpenter's Axe, which he will use to fell the trees needed for the caskets of his enemies.

I feel like the Carpenter is supposed to represent Pioneers. A member of an infantry unit that's supposed to prepare roads and terrain for the main body of troops. Basically something of an anti-Sapper.
That makes sense, just the abilities described in the game is good at destroying enemy fortifications is a bit confusing aha

i blieve they should be call pioneers since that would makesensethey're like sapper but focused on wood working, i.e clearing trees, make tools to help assault fortifications like ladders, etc . it would explain the axe too

Can you imagine the PTSD of the soldiers that saw their friends heads get blown off by a bush? Then a guy with a giant axe runs out of the bush and starts decimating the rest of them

I can imagen that the carpenter is called that in the game because of the saying from german "die Axt im Haus erspart den Zimmerman" wich would be more or less translated to "the axe in the house/home save(in economic sense) the carpenter".

It really is a good anti cav class, especially in bushes. The amount of times I get cav players halted by hitting them with a unexpected blunderbuss shot is so satisfying

And all due kudos on turning what is literally a gun permanently equipped with the 'loudener' from the simpsons into a stealth weapon. Carpenters are the main reason I preventively bayonet or shoot at bushes.

@@Pilps I'm not nearly social enough to play Artillery with strangers. But I have played it once with a few friends of mine. One of us specifically said "we should fire a round into that little sprig on a hill near our own frontline" and we were like "...well alright then, you're the boss" - YEP! Carpenter! It's like 'Nam, except you're playing Monty Python's "how not to be seen" guide. And blowing up bushes *just in case*. Absolutely love this game.
I love the sapper class. Building defenses that would make a great position to hold or last stand really makes the expier........annnnndddd there's another carpenter breaking all my shit again :(

I don’t wanna stray too far away from the original, custom campaign mod 2 just makes it easier for the masses to understand.

Carpenters were part of armies back then, they were paid for things like gun stock repairs, even furniture repairs for officers.
Its odd they included such a specific thing in a war simulator game though, because its not like they included a prostitute class

My best carpenter round was on Desert Ruins Siege mode as defenders. I spawned from B and ran to the attacker's palisades anyone that got in my way was turned into swiss cheese.
I got there and axed a few line inf and riflemen then destroyed the sapper's palisades, while I was chased I was cutting people that got a tad too close. In total I slaughtered at least 13 people. The class is so fun and rewarding and... And hol' up... DIdn't I see you being a naughty sapper on Fort Darial >:/ I swear I keep seeing you in the corner of my eye!
Edit: *It's one of the funnest maps to play as Carpenter or Sapper. I think I've even posted screenshots of Hussar holding a blunderbuss hehe*

I started playing sapper and carpenter after seeing this vid. My sapper experience so far has been that it's hard to get kills for most part outside of melee. Axe is far superior imo. The blunderbuss iver shot so many up close straight in their body and miss somehow. Sometimes same exact thing but I manage to hit a guy off to the side behind them due to the spread lol (edit: the axe swings 3 directions now, haven't tested if it's one hit kill on side swings yet but the overhead always is)
rename the sapper to engineer, and rename the carpenter to woodsman
That would make a lot more sense

I have the same addictions, these two classes keep me playing. When i finally have to play line men, disgruntled at first, but I suddenly remember its an entire other fun game mode lol.

i was playing to day and there was a gang of three carpenter bois and it was amusing but i wiped them out twice and killed them a couple of times. weirdly enough it was my best game ever and we lost 5 kills

Given The very unprofessional uniform and non standard issue weapons Carpenter could Be The actual name of The character. Irl historically there were civilian contracters of many sorts following The troops. Tailors For example.
Pretty cool! I was mainly talking about the classes abilities. His abilities literally say he’s really good at taking down/doing damage to wooden structures made by other players.
Which makes sense with having an axe but just doesn’t make sense with the classes name 😅
The carpenter is a naval thing. Iunno why he's in the land mode, but the name is accurate as in reality he would be on a ship wedging holes, improvising new yards and so on, hence the axe. (And the blunderbuss, although not specific to one man on a ship, would be used for repelling boarders.)
