If people are confused, In India there is a law that completely outlaws PMC operations within the borders. Although, there is a law that allows Military operators to seek shelter during an operation, it only applies to serving military personell. Same shit would happen to an Indian too had he joined a PMC and returned to India. There are some Ex SF Indian PMCs who run protection in Oman/Africa only to return and face jail time.
Also, rhe part about Indian judicial System and Jails are completely true. We follow the same colonial Laws that viewed the Natives as 2nd class citizens. The Judges are arrogant and think of themselves as dukes while police is completely allowed by the state to brutalise you. The jails again, are the same that the Brits made to "Punish" the prisoners, A century ago. There has been no change in attitude of the state towards incarcerated being "Reformed" rather than "Punished".

      From the American CBS News:
"The MV Seaman Guard Ohio, owned by Washington D.C.-based maritime security contractor AdvanFort, was intercepted by the Indian Coast Guard on Saturday, close to southern port of Tuticorin, India.
Officials said the vessel entered Indian waters without authorization and was carrying a significant number of semi-automatic weapons, some 35 guns and more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition, according to Indian newspaper The Hindu.
Its crew includes eight Indians, six British nationals, and some Estonians and Ukrainians. There have been no reports of Americans being among the detained individuals, who were reportedly 10 crew members and 25 security contractors.
AdvanFort describes its contractors as "former US, UK and NATO special forces operators who are expertly skilled and equipped to deter piracy measures and allow for safe passage in international waters."
Indian officials have said the vessel was 12 miles inside national waters when it was stopped.
The ship had reportedly been in Indian waters for three days before it was detected. According to police, the crew broke several Indian laws, including not maintaining an accurate log of the arms on the vessel.
The crew was also charged with refueling with 1,500 liters of diesel which they allegedly purchased illegally from a local fishing boat.
India has been particularly sensitive about armed security patrols in its waters since a February 2012 incident that say two Indian fishermen fatally shot by Italian Marines serving as the security detail on a cargo ship off the Kerala coast. The two Italians, who allegedly mistook the fishermen for pirates, are currently being prosecuted in India."

In 2008, armed terrorists landed in Mumbai and killed over 160 people.

In 2012, two fishermen were killed by Italian Marines who thought they were pirates.

However, it still surprises me why the British Embassy couldn't do anything for them? In our media at the time, it was mentioned that these guys were in Indian coastal waters with a floating armoury. Considering the history of Sri Lankan Tamil terrorists (LTTE) and conspiracies of sabotage against Russian built nuclear power plant, all in the same region, I'm not surprised that the Indian Coast Guard suspected these guys to be private weapons suppliers to probable terror groups.

      To set the context
In 2008, armed terrorists landed in Mumbai and killed over 160 people.
In 2009, LTTE was defeated in Sri Lanka.
In 2012, two fishermen were killed by Italian Marines who thought they were pirates.
So they were armed, no proper logs, no permission from Indian authorities close to the territory once held by LTTE put them up for suspicion of all possibilities.

If an American is caught with illegal weapons then sure same will happen with American too until and unless his government sits down and explains as to how the person in question is not involved in any illegal activity. You need to understand that India is fed up with terrorism of various types and is literally fighting from day one from its independence till now against various forms of terrorism and some of which is indirectly caused due to America by the way for example: A portion of funds given by the Americans to Pakistan was used against India, the guns America left in Afghanistan were used in Kashmir back in 90s and even today M16 rifles used in Kashmir by terrorists can be traced back to the 2021 cowardly escape of Americans from Afghanistan which are now being sold all around that region to various terrorists.

Basically he was arrested under the UAPA act which is Unlawful Activities Prevention Act basically the law enforcement can nab anyone whom they might feel suspicious under this act and send them into prison without any court proceedings until later investigations and subsequent court battles should prove him guilty. This is one of the oldest acts in the annals of the Indian constitution made in the year 1950 and basically this is used as a weapon to this day to clamour against opposition by the ruling parties and law enforcement.
As of now, Neither the opposition or the ruling party has not raised concern against the dangerous use of act since both needs to use it for their own convenience.

Also, this documentary only mentions these 3-4 individuals. Why not mention the others nationals INCLUDING Indians who were arrested?

I worked in maritime security for two years back in the same time as this guy. Somali piracy was only an issue because big powers like India didn’t step up to the plate and police/patrol the Indian Ocean. If they had the maritime security industry would never have developed into what it was. They then corruptly imprison foreign citizens! Utterly disgusting!
I worked for a decent organisation but I did go to an interview for this company and didn’t like what I seen. Luckily I didn’t risk working for them.
I feel so bad for this guy and the others. This could’ve happened to any of us. I hope he’s doing well now.
