  • 25cm of a heavy wet snow fell today in a short period of time during the night. Strong wind added. That's deadly combination caused the problems with my antennas...
PS: I am sorry for my poor english and poor audio due to high wind gust! :)

Glad you got the hex beam repaired. It looks very dangerous working on the roof, especially when it's covered in snow and ice! Take care my friend. 73, Paul G4IJE.

That sucks. No big snow here in Hungary yet, perhaps it is on the way.
Your English is very good by the way, you've got a British accent! did you spend time there? (I am British btw).

I love rag-chewing on SSB and mostly to UK guys :D We are on a good position to have daily openings to UK on many bands from here :) Sorry, but I don't know Malé Trakany :( I am located in the eastern part of Slovakia, close to Ukrainean border (50km) Have a great day and greetings to you and also to your Mother-in-law! ;) 73

As always for all wired antennas! Cubical or HEX-BEAM doesn't make a difference!
A little wind (a little) and a little snow (25cm is very little) and everything gets curled up ... but sometimes it has to be done well !!!
many other times they look more like a "dead spider" than an antenna!

Looks like the Fiberglass Rods beding over really fast as some weight from ice and snow sits on it. But what made the wire break?

But what a shame that the end-fed broke.
A very interesting video. I thnk with some pliers you can bent the hooks a bit more so they won't come loose again. (If these hooks are stainless steel and not rusted).
Many of the hooks on the SP7IDX hexbeam have rust on them so I'm not sure if mine would snap.
    Good luck and good DX.

Well done for getting on the roof in that weather. I have a Hexbeam up at 20m above some other antenna and have recorded winds on the weather station of 65mph. The Hexbeam moves around but has held 8ts ground. My biggest problem is bird the antenna in the morning gets completely cover by starlings and crows...
Have fun and we don't get much snow so I will not have that problem.
