    I could only get about 60-80W from my Prius's 12V power port for my EcoFlow Delta Mini. So I built a simulated 300W solar input to take power directly from the 12V battery (only while it is charging) buck it up to 24V, and pipe that into a "solar" charging cable. Now it recharges at 300W whenever the Prius is in Ready mode. I don't bother with solar.

  • @JustoGabrielAndaluz
    @JustoGabrielAndaluz 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

    Is a simple DC-DC Converter that uses a lot of very brand specific cables for $600 and you get 800W, well for about $300 you can get a 2000W Renogy or 1200W Victron Pure Sinewave Inverters (in case you want known brand quality) or for around $150 many other off brand highly rated 1500-2000 Inverters...and while they will take a bit more space, they can be used for anything and in a pinch can charge multiple units...I say in a pinch or occasionally, because even at 800W most small vehicles will not have an alternator that is designed for heavy loads for extended periods, some work trucks and RV's do have heavy duty alternators or even multiple ones because they are designed that way. I love EF products and I own many...but this, other than look pretty and be smaller than an inverter, nope.

    • @NoZenith
      @NoZenith วันที่ผ่านมา

      Another channel, outdoor adventures has a Jeep. He bought the heavier duty big tow package gladiator Alternator to upgrade But even went through the process of testing the stock alternator just show capacities and what to expect if you didn't have a heavy duty over there before he changed it.. And I think he said it cost him a couple hundred for the alternator on top of this charger setup. He sees this costing less than investing in other quality Name brand inverters like renogy because it comes with all the cable, fuses and everything. I've watched most of the videos available currently and this is coming in at around half the price, or a little more, if you upgrade your alternator. I don't know the numbers as i haven't run them myself but basic online research, they seem to be in the ballpark, But I have not priced the full list of stuff out for my vehicle as I haven't committed to a setup. Being in ecoflow with the Delta 2 Max and Glacier, this is very interesting to me.

    When using a real alternator, pulling the max wattage seems like you are going to wear out your alternator pretty fast for most cars or trucks. Running at high loads contiuously for long periods of time builds up a lot of heat in the windings. I will be interested in seeing the long term reviews for this vs a DC-DC charger

    Thank you for the review and offering additional options. I own the Delta-2 but my specs show it only allows for 500 watts of solar input. How is yours allowing over 600?
    A year ago I installed a boost converter under my hood, attached to the car battery and boosting voltage to 24 VDC, then running much smaller wiring to the trunk. That allowed me to get about 200-250 watts.
    As I read comments below, I also just bought the Pecron as it was less expensive than other options and allows me to use multiple voltage battery banks to charge the variety of solar power stations I own via MC-4 connectors and adapters.

      I'm by no means an 'expert' on this type of charging solution, but I did do some research on this and the consensus seems to be that as long as you're max current rating on the alternator is about 2x the max current of the DC -DC charger, it should be totally fine. So iwith this particular product, the max current would be ~63A at the full 800W. So as long as your vehicle's alternator is rated for at least 125A or more, it should be totally fine.

    I think this would work fine with an EV 12v Battery. For example on a M3 long range RWD when the battery drops to 12.5v the charge cycle will start and it charges at around 14.55v until charging complete at 13.15v. So you may have a slower charge to start, same as in your example before you switched the solar on, but once the battery dropped to 12.5v then you would be charging at 14.55 so probably getting close to the 800w.

    If you’re charging at 12 volts, it limits the watts to around 120 because the power station is typically limited to ten amp. Amps x volts = watts. So if you can double or triple the volts, you can charge at double or triple the speed. This can be done with a DC to DC converter at a much cheaper price. The advantage of this device is that it automates the process. Beware though that this could max out your alternator as it keeps your 12 volt car battery fully charged.

    just a question - If you own an EV (Battery Electric Vehicle - NOT HYBRID) would this still work, if you connect it directly to the 12V battery, as the main drive battery of the EV charges the 12V....so was actually wondering about this, as I would definitely buy this along with a EcoFlow Generator as a electric jerry can for my EV and having this inside the car to charge on the off chance I run out of juice in the EV and couldn't get to a Charging Station.

      Yes, as long as the car battery is just low, but still healthy, the power station can charge the car battery up enough in a few minutes to start the car. The power station cannot supply enough current to start the car on its own, so the car battery has to be able to accept a charge and to produce the high current needed for motor starting.

    Why not get a 600W power inverter and plug it into your lighter socket and use the AC connection on the EcoFlow? Then you can charge any power station on-the-go. Wouldn’t that work just as well?

    • @gregben
      @gregben 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A automotive lighter socket supplies 12 V (up to 14 V when engine is running) at 10 Amps maximum, so 14 x 10 = 140 Watts maximum. The 600W power inverter is only about 80-90% efficient, so it can supply no more than about 120 Watts continuously when hooked up that way. To get 600 Watts out of your inverter, you have to wire it directly to the battery terminals with relatively heavy wire.

    I don’t see the alternator charger on the Ecoflow app yet?? Why? Do you actual have to have the unit for it to show?
    Also that is a xt150 connector NOT xt90 you keep calling it xt90.

      Thanks for the reminder! I'd been meaning to correct the record on that connector type and keep forgetting! But yeah, I think the app (at least for now) needs to detect the unit before it will show up as an option.

    For what you are paying for all that intelligent charging system you can get a high output alternator that can handle the needs of the vehicle and support your house battery / power station needs. Consider Mechman Alternators or J & J Alternators to create a more powerful mobile powerplant, I run a 320 alternator and two 1000-amp Optima bats wired in parallel in my Suburban.

    I am a newbie here and am electronically challenged. But I ordered the Alternator charger with the idea of connecting it with a standalone battery in my SUV. The battery would then charge my Delta 2. Are you with me so far? The battery is a 12V/24V 100Ah/200AH Lithium LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Battery, 3000+Deep Cycles, 100A BMS. Can I do this and only charge the battery with shore power when needed? TYI Joel

      Yeah that'll work (it's what I was doing in the video). You just won't get the full 800W...probably more like 400-500W, which is still pretty good.

    You NEVER want to use your alternator to charge a battery! Alternators nowadays are only met to maintain a good battery, Not charging external sources!

    • @gregben
      @gregben 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      An alternator is a 3 phase electrical generator coupled with diodes to convert the output to low-ripple DC. It couldn't care less what sort of load it's attached to as long as it is within the alternator's operating limits. And it most certainly is just fine to use it for battery charging as long as cooling is adequate.

    I enjoyed the video, but prior to posting I checked the price of an alternator for my new $80,000 truck and it was $1,300.00, if this item malfunctioned would Eco flow pay for the repairs, and would the vehicle manufacturer recommend this product?.

    • @737smartin

      I'm by no means an 'expert' on this type of charging solution, but I did do some research on this and the consensus seems to be that as long as you're max current rating on the alternator is about 2x the max current of the DC -DC charger, it should be totally fine. So iwith this particular product, the max current would be ~63A at the full 800W. So as long as your vehicle's alternator is rated for at least 125A or more, it should be totally fine.

    What good is a device that is powered from a vehicle. If you are in a location long term, disconnect your vehicle your trailer or 5th wheel will not charge! Solar Panels are always connected and charging your batteries.

      People actually know what they're doing and upgrade alternators, nothing new. I have a 60amp dc to dc and upgraded my alternator to 350amp.
      Some vehicles have high output alternators and even if it doesn't it's only 800 watts.
      Maybe if you had a degree in automotive and knew how alternators and electricity worked you would know something

    His thing is way too expensive.
    You are better off getting an second battery module and charge it at home.
    The problem with this thing is that most ppl dont drive enough hours to fully charge the unit every day.
    I know I used to live in my Toyota Landcruiser.
    Idling the huge engine is very inefficient.

    • @ReeWrayOutdoors
      @ReeWrayOutdoors  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I agree that it IS expensive. BUT, most alternatives don't get you the full 800W, and then when you compare this to the cost of, say, 800W of solar, it's actually way cheaper. And I completely disagree that most ppl don't drive enough hours to fully charge your EF Delta. If you're driving to a trailhead just 30mins away for a day hike...and then drive 30mins back to camp, you'll pretty much have fully charged a Delta 2. And you don't have to worry if it's cloudy or raining...you just need about an hour of drive time in a day...and that is definitely not a problem for how my car-camping trips usually go. That might not be the case for everyone, but it certainly is for me. We can agree to disagree. :)

      @@ReeWrayOutdoorsBut you can get a 1200 Watt inveryer for 200 bucks and hook that up to your alternator and you can fast charge your powerstation through AC, way cheaper.
