Why don't they just have master raids drop universal ornaments and have weapons drop with enhanced perks base? People have been clambering to get the old Solstice armor back in the game, and that's a great way to incentivize doing the master mode, as well as getting the weapons. Weapons dropping with enhanced perks base does make them slightly better then the base raid, but that's it, just slightly better. It's great for people who are really into min-maxing without affecting the casual side.
I also disagree with your thoughts on champions in master mode raids, champions in raids don't add anything except force a load out which is boring. We should be able to go into the raids with whatever loadout we crafted. Master mode raids are supposed to be where test your powerful builds and they don't do that if I'm forced to use something bungie decided. I have a ton of build ideas I can't properly try out because champions force me to abandon them. And just because it's always been like that doesn't mean it has to stay that way. you thought the same of sunsetting at one point and here we are now. Datto I love ya but you really got to drop that mentality.

Your points on Master level content and power creep, as well as the (lack of) strength in the sandbox are right on point imo. Even as a more casual player, strikes and the game world not being tuned to the 3.0 subclasses is becoming very visible

    • @ASpaceOstrich
      @ASpaceOstrich ปีที่แล้ว +2

Been playing d2 for quite a while at this point and I swear light level is the cause of basically every issue with the game regarding power creep. Its not 3.0 subclasses that make the strikes and patrols boring. Its the fact that the only time that part of the game isn't being subjected to a ridiculous damage dealt/taken modifier is the first week of a new expansion launch. As soon as the players vastly overlevel the strikes and patrol content most of the game becomes way less enjoyable. Gambit is literally the only place in the game you can fight level appropriate enemies without some other gameplay challenge piled on top. Master and grandmaster level content always has modifiers, mechanics, or other added difficulty things piled on top. If they enabled an option to set strikes and patrol spaces to scaled light levels the game would instantly become way more engaging.

I wanna comment on the endless horde mode idea that you mentioned at the end of the video. We've all been wanting something like that for years and personally I think that would be a good way to combat burn out. The main reason I stick with the game is the gameplay. All of my friends quit during Curse of Osiris and Warmind and I kept playing non stop because I love the gameplay and the way it feels so much. The only incentive I need from a horde mode is just that, more mindless shooting, because sometimes I just want to turn my brain off and shoot things. However, more incentive than that would obviously be nice, and I'm sure even the mindless waves would burn me and others out eventually too. There's never gonna be a fix to burn out, but I personally think that just having a place to shoot stuff other than strikes or patrols would be nice. Idk, as long as I can keep killing stuff, I'm satisfied at the end of the day.

Only complaint I have about seasonal model is that umbral energy was tied exclusively to the seasonal activities last season but not the one before it or the one we are currently in. If they will simply let umbral energy drop from playlist activities for all seasons I will be completely fine with everything else. I think the seasonal model does what it is meant to do and does it well. I just don’t like that last season randomly differentiates from the “do playlist activities, so seasonal activity for rewards, repeat” model. If no season followed it or if they had changed the model for this year for all seasons i wouldn’t care. The fact that last season was so stingy with umbral energy and no other reasons really were is just really annoying

There's an upgrade on the Star Chart that lets you passively earn Plundered Umbral Energy from activities, such as strikes, Gambit, Crucible, raids, etc. You only get 1 Plundered Energy every 5 or so activities, but it's better than nothing. But yes, we shouldn't have to do an upgrade to have gotten this. They are being super greedy with the Plundered Umbral Energy this sesaon.

With Final Fantasy, older content has a few things... if you're doing match made stuff, for example doing a Duty Roulette (random dungeon) the game forces you DOWN to the level of the content you're playing, so it'll always be a challenge, or at least not something you can really sleep through.
Any match made activity is like that in FF, if you want to make it easy cause you over level it, you select Unsynced... which lets you play any activity at your current level, but there is no match making. So if you want to take friends in, you gotta first make friends... or use the in game lfg.
No matter what, older content can still slap you around because you're still being forced down to a level where it wants you to be when you play. Now is that saying your gear isn't going to give you an advantage? No, by all means good gear is good gear. But health wise, and level wise, it drops you down where the game says "This is where you need to be to do this content, I'm MAKING you do it."
Destiny does that with the Legendary Witch Queen Campaign... I wouldn't mind seeing them implement that for the Strike Playlist on the whole as a testing ground...

    • @SayaKirasaka
      @SayaKirasaka 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Thing is, power creep in 14 is stupidly outrageous rn. Its never been easier to blaze through content on sync ever before. The game may have the option of syncing down to old content or even play it at MIL (Minimum Item Level), but our potencies from the endwalker stat squish are so busted that you just become a half-god compared to when the content released.

Dun Scaith's Diabolos HOllow will 1-shot tanks on spawn unless you invuln (Lv60 Alliance Raid) and certain Alexander TBs are now tank-swaps when they weren't before. Only 'power-creepy' thing XIV MAY have is in the form of kit-reworks in cases like Summoner, but I'm fairly certain the level-sync function trims that down significantly enough?

    • @Eszoable
      @Eszoable 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think you fully understand how much FFXIV has changed over the years. Even if we get level synced our food stats/melds and potency of skills don't get get synched at all. Making every old content, even just half an expansion ago, an absolute breeze to go through. Even old Ultimates are becoming a cakewalk and glorified extremes, just need time dedication for them but DPS checks are hardly there anymore. Let alone the jobs that are balanced on 80-90, like RPR, SMN and SGE, have some really wonky potencies going on in lower level content. Level sync might be a good idea but the way FFXIV implements it is a very half-assed version of it sadly.

    • @xXCrocmonXx
      @xXCrocmonXx ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Eszoable Perhaps you're right. I thought it operated on a similar process to Destiny's scaling, which is to say "you will never scale over BiS of the appropriate level," except D2 does it by saying "you will effectively only do full damage with your gun when your score when is 15pts over the target's power, and you will never scale above that."
It is incredibly weird reading "half-assed" on XIV's scaling, when D2 reduces all scaling issues to rely upon gear score, though.

I think you’re right about needing a horde mode. And I think that the point of it needs to be just a time sink. Instead of being timed to complete objectives, I’d like to see waves get more difficult as time goes on, while rewarding better loot. For example, you can start with a ton of red bars and normal Strike end chests, dropping some planetary materials and legendary shards. Slowly start making enemies more difficult and scaling the Light of the waves. Then we can get up to like 50 champions, massive bosses, yellow bar acolytes and thrall, dropping Adept Nightfall weapons, Ascendant Shards, tons of prisms and cores, and exotics. Take Escalation Protocol and dial it up to 11. But then at a specific threshold, it stops scaling the rewards. And like Master raids, it’s just for the love of the game and to shoot stuff. It would cater to the top 1% but not too much.
Then again, that would piss off the “300 kids, 10 wives, 150 jobs” crowd. So maybe not.

I love the idea of requirements or minimums in order to matchmake Master SEASONAL content.
I hear some loot incentives for Master raids to bring back the remaining weapons that weren’t brought to D2 (King’s Fall’s Auto, Shotgun and Rocket Launcher and VoG’s Fusion, Auto and Pulse), the D1 AoT raid ornaments, and hard mode armor (Harrowed, did VoG even have hard mode armor? I forgot).
I love the idea but if they were to incorporate this theme into future raids, especially the new raids - not reprised ones - then armor would be okay, raid ornaments would be okay. Maybe Vow Master mod could’ve received an Auto rifle, the hand cannon, machine gun, or maybe other weapons not available in normal. Given the state of the community I think they’d riot over locked content but oh well.

All of these would be a great incentive to play master but like you said, people would bitch and moan about it being locked behind hard content. I honestly hate how casual the game is now. I wish theyd add more hardcore rewards like this and add new mechanics for hard raids like in d1 and leviathan. Im fine with champions personally, i just hate how thats our limit for hard content. The game is boring now. It doesnt make me want to grind or get better. Its just "do your weekly bounties for brightdust, your pinnacles for light level, and your weekly "watch NPCs talk to eachother" for the seasonal story". The game isnt an "MMO RPG" if its more casual than minecraft is rn...

regarding matchmade master seasonal activities, I wouldnt mind. I started using the d2 app lfg for stuff like master ketchcrash and it's been okay. Some extra UI in game when launching 6-player, master-mode activities to show how many weapons of each element type, and how many anti-champ weapons (with mods!!) players have equipped. So you see that your group has f.ex 2 void weapons, 5 arc, and 7 solar weapons, with 3 people having overload, and 4 people having antibarrier. That way you can hopefully prevent loading into activites improperly equipped, preventing frustration, since in matchmade activities you won't be communicating and strategizing your loadout with your team.

I've been thinking about all the new enemies destiny adds in each expansion and then, just doesn't include them in endgame content? Stasis Fallen weren't in the raid, Hive Guardians are just in patrol spaces and story missions and also weren't in the raid. Hell, even Wyverns are pretty cool and are scary in nightfalls but they only appear in one strike. These are phenomenal ways to break away from Champions but it feels like they just aren't using these enemy types as much as they could be. Is that just me?

    • @Welverin

Vow is Scorn, so no place for the newer enemies types.
DSC could have included stasis Fallen, but they may have had story reasons for not including them. I only did it once and am fuzzy on how it fits in the lore (if they weren't Fallen associated with Eramis, they wouldn't belong).
The one exception to this is wyverns, they are in Vault, but we haven't seen any other new content with vex since then, so there's no where for them to be.

  • @ASpaceOstrich

I'd like to point out that matchmaking in Destiny 2 is based on light level in almost every pve activity already. I pulled out a sunset Waking Vigil for the arc hand cannon step of the treasure maps and found myself in a ketchcrash with a bunch of kinderguardians who were stuck in a bugged activity. The spider tank was immune and the scorch cannons hadn't spawned for whatever reason. They were all brand new and low light and hadn't realised it was bugged, and nobody experience was going to end up in their activity because light level based matchmaking exists.
So your proposed limitation for master ketchcrash matchmaking is straight up already in the game. If you remember back when afk material farming in forges was a thing, people would drop their light to below the minimum level to ensure that they would only matchmake with people who were also afk farming. That system of light level based matchmaking never went away.

  • @victorb7562

I saw something where someone said that master raids should rewards glass needles (from D1) allowing you to reroll exotic armour stats. This would make master raids more rewarding and lost sectors grinding less painful. I'd imagine the cost for rerolling exotic armour to be very high requiring you to do at least a full master raid (or the equivalent, as in 5x encounter completions) to reroll your exotic once or you only get the glass needles if you do a full master raid completion (you buy a nightfall card, think trials card, and it keeps track of the encounters you have done) which then rewards you with enough materials to reroll maybe twice but this would make it so you can't just farm the shortest encounter. Oh and you can only get the glass needles from the most recent released raid.

Master Raids/Dungeons - my suggestion for loot:
Artifice armor (guaranteed minimum 60 stat roll)
Guaranteed red border weapons from first completion on that character each week
Alternatively, master mode could give weapons you can’t get in legend. Or you can also improve the desire for adept weapons. Maybe adept weapons can roll with enhanced perks so instead of grinding for 5 red borders of the zaouli’s bane (probably butchered that spelling) to craft enhanced explosive and enhanced incandescent, it can have a chance to roll with those perks instead.

I think part of what caused King's Fall reaction is that even by Master standards, it felt like they went up a notch with the amount of Champions. Which, to be honest, is probably one of the few ways they can challenge us with our current power level. With that said, for as much as I don't mind being challenged combat-wise, it does feel like some things are a bit too much with King's Fall. For the most part, the Warpriest challenge mode.
Truth be told, chip away at the ads isn't that much harder, even in Master difficult. Totems felt more difficult, in that sense. While there you are pretty much in the open, with Warpriest, you can pretty much just stay at plates and kill things with a bow or something. But the actual challenge has so many frustrating things halting it. Lack of heavy ammo, lack of special ammo, latency messing up with the timer (both for who is counting and for the person who needs to get the aura), a restricted loadout due to the presence of Champions, and on top of that, one of the toughest damage walls currently present in the game. You need to be quite well optimized to deal with everything. Should a CHALLENGE in a MASTER raid ask that much from the players? Maybe. But if that's the case, I wish there was some other option as well. Specially when power creep takes us more and more towards this kind of design on high-level content.
I'm a bit tired of going into a raid and instantly evaporating everything in sight. Beating Atraks-1 on Day 1 is one of my fondest memories of Destiny, and coming back to it a long time after getting my seal done and not really touching it ever since, it felt so disappointing that people nowadays can instantly delet her without even tocuhing the mechanics. Not even builds are any fun when everything is dead before their engine gets going. But I also wish we had something that allows for more freedom of approach then what Warpriest challenge has been like. Where I need to actually think to play and show some level of mastery of the mechanics, but not to be so well optimized that it feels restrictive.
I had some good fun with Master Vow, but even that feels something people will rarely actually want to play week to week. Specially if you are talking about Exhibition Challenge. Which I still felt more in control of and had more fun with than the Warpriest challenge, but is still quite taxing for non-A teams and below. Hard Mode felt much more approachable in Destiny 1 than Master has been on Destiny 2, and I would like to see something at that level of difficulty here too. Something that someone between B- and A- can have some semblance of challenge, but without it being overbearing. Because right now, it feels like Destiny has pretty much two modes. F- and A+, maybe S for some really insane stuff.

Here are my ideas for Master raids,
-Age of Triumph armor - just port from D1 please bungie
    -Emblem
    -Shader/Raid Momento
-Some sort of crown or physical appearance change when completing master raid, or perhaps when equipping emblems, like trials does
-One or two exclusive weapons with some more potent loot pools - these weapons wouldn’t necessarily be better, but just have more godrolls and just be a flex - this could easily be done for the destiny 1 raids since there are a few weapons that just didn’t get ported over
-taken king ghost shell please bungie
At the end of the day I totally agree that the population numbers in master content are not that high. But you have to ask yourself why? There can be many reason but at the end of the day I think it’s mainly tied to incentive. If there was more incentive it would get a larger portion of the community to be invested in master content, setting it as a goal since the loot is sought after. For example look at trials. Trials used to be a shit show about a year ago and it was mainly the sweatiest of the sweats playing because they just liked trials. Then bungie reworked trials, made loot more accessible, made new loot, re worked the system, and now the trials population has sky rocketed compared to where it was before. At the end of the day destiny players love loot and love to flex it, bungie just needs to capitalize on that to bring more players to master raids. Everybody always says fashion is the Destiny endgame for a reason, it doesn’t have to OP power crept gear.

Problem with enemy difficulty is twofold
1-Enemies with a ton of hp are not fun to shoot. Its unsatisfying to shoot a dreg with a hand cannon and have to shoot 3-4 headshots.
2-Enemies with tons of damage are not fun to engage. Having to passively wait for enemies to funnel into you in the glassway feels like a slog.
Enemy density is a good way to have some difficulty, but I don't think it's the end all be all. We need more difficulty in the form of lucent brood hive and tormentors. Stuff where shooty shooty bang bang works, but you need to do something alongside it so your shooty shooty bang bang keeps working.

    1) Momentos- Like why weren't these added- I'd run 50 master KF to make my crafted weapons taken
    2) exotics- a guaranteed exotic drop (or even chances) with the focused attribute could be really good.
    3) drop the normal loot whilst doing hard mode. we had this in D1. why TF do I have to run the whole raid twice to get all my available loot
    4) more materials (Golf balls and red balls)
    5) another guaranteed red box (same as current normal one- by code)
    6) an upgrade path that allows us to 'upgrade' our crafted raid weapons (selectable perks or adept mods - don't allow adept stat masterwork)
    7) hard mode armour drops count towards triumph that unlock raid ornaments (could be standard armour set or age of triumph style)- something like get 3 helmets and you get the transmog for free.
Any 1 of these would tempt me but if two of these were present I would run every week on multiple characters.
Personally I think the best options are cosmetic ones (Momentos and ornaments) because they are purely vanity items for people to chase if they want. But they 100% need to make normal loot drop on hard as well. The whole reason for running hard on D1 was the double loot and its insane to me that they removed it from d2

I want to believe they're experimenting with new mechanics, like that tormentor(if that's what it's called) coming in lightfall, but I agree they need to buff older content now that the 3.0s are set.

I honestly think that the solution to the master raid loot is as simple as 'craftable adept weapons'. Where getting to the level that'd give the +2 adept stat bonus thing on a crafted weapon gives +4 instead, and they can slot adept mods, as well as getting enhanced perks.
Yes, it'd be powercreep for the elite players, but it'd be so little that it wouldn't ruin the game like a Mountaintop/Recluse situation. Anything more and we'd be in dangerous territory, but I think that's just enough to make it both worth it, and not overwhelming.
Also, there should be Mementos for master mode raiding. That'd help too, an additional cosmetic that makes sense with how mementos are already rewarded.

    My thoughts:
Gear power should be based on the max level of any item in that slot. If I have a Calus Mini Tool drop at 1580, I think a sunshot in my vault that I haven’t infused so it’s at 1350 should be treated equivocally as 1580 in most/all content. Same for all armor slots. It creates the drive to complete pinnacles but reduces the frustration of infusing specific gear, as that’s a big limiter of buildcrafting.
I also think most content should do like Haunted Leviathan and bring up the power of anyone not at it.
Let me try a master nightfall even if I’m 1500 power, and just set me 20 power under or something. It would require extreme work to complete, and would hedge on buildcrafting and tactics to work, but would still be doable.
Honestly I hate grandmasters have light minimums. If I have a perfect build, champion mods, and a group, I should be able to enter at the already-appointed minimum light level it sets you at. I shouldn’t have to exp farm to even be able to do one

Just put the contest-modifier in GM's and cap everyone 20 lvl under. Noone would have to mindlessly grind anymore for doing GMs every season (although that would reduce playtime by a lot which Bungo probably doesn't like)

I agree with you on the light level comment, I'd like to move to slot leveling first and just see how that goes. But I can also understand the argument from some folks that just say "no light on gear" and just have the artifact. I don't think I want to go as harsh as that last statement yet. I'd just like to see how slot leveling would work out first. Plus it would be nice to just eliminate the need for upgrade modules.

Hope we start getting exotic quests with each season again instead of it being tied to dungeons. I loved the Ager's quest. To me, S16 and 17 felt a bit empty without them
Edit: Forgot S16 had Vox Obscura... that activity was a miss for me though.

Hot Take: What if they brought back the D1 raid intrinsic weapon traits from VoG, Crota, etc. into the Master Challenge weapons. I feel like there should be tiers to weapons. Ex. You get a Zaoulis Bane drop from the normal difficulty and that’s what you get a normal hand cannon with those perk traits. Then crafting that weapon will allow you to choose whatever perk traits you want on that weapon along with enhanced perks. Master weapons ex. You get the Zaoulis Bane but this time you get the normal random rolls obviously but there is an intrinsic trait added, like bonus damage to Knights or Wizards along with the ability to add adept mods. Master challenge weapons will allow you to get double perk slots. Crafting the Adept/Harrowed version of the weapons will allow you to have enhanced double perk traits along with the intrinsic bonus. Crafting the Adept/Harrowed will only take 1-2 patterns instead of 5 for the normal version of the weapon. Doing challenges on Master will have a 33% chance to get a redborder weapon. Normal challenge will be a 25% chance. Drop comments below for replies so we can discuss negatives and positives. P.S. Make crafted weapon costs free after purchasing that trait. Think Datto said something about the free cost after purchasing the trait that way you can swap traits for different content. Long comment but yeah…
Edit: Another hot take along with the challenge for the week that specific encounter allows the enemies to have the Iron Modifier only on Elites/Mini-boss enemy types. Same for Master although in Master there will be more Elites/Mini-boss enemy types. Since Bungo doesn’t want to change Master raid mechanics there will be limited options to making the content a little more difficult besides saying hey you can’t stand on the same plate until everyone else has. If this actually becomes a thing the intrinsic trait for the raid weapons will become more viable as you might do more damage or will be able to stun Elites/Mini-bosses with your legendary weapon as if you had an anti-champion mod equipped.

Adept weapons from raids should be craftable, this way the pinnacle content would have pinnacle loot, which is slightly better than the standard one but only relevant to the minmaxers (aka the ones running Master Mode). The tier system would look like this
      Master Mode (Crafted) Adept

i dont know why people are complaining bout expedition ruffians with blueberries. if you do a least a tiny bit of research you know they spawn 3 mins in after activating the drill. all you need to do is grab the engrams and throw them far away from the blueberries. this guarantees you get 1 or 2 ruffians per drill site. expedition's current status is actually good because when you dont need ruffians anymore you can speedrun through it rather than being forced to fight ruffians when you dont need them anymore

I agree with many points you make in this video, I would disagree that Armor is living in the same space as the weapon and subclass systems. Armor is not stone-aged like many activities, but it has several ways it could be improved to better match the way that weapon acquisition has developed. Every armor piece being a complete 6-full-odds slot machine every single time is not modern enough yet.

i agree with you on this, the only problem with the Master Raid is that the seasonal mod is restricting players loadout. an Totem encounter with Unstoppable mod for pulse rifle, and with that light level, the pulse rifle is ONLY use to kill thrall and stunt Champ, it's took nearly a hole mag just for an Acolyte is too much. Yes i know its 1600, yes people can you strat like Aeon + Gjallarhorn spam. Its just that limit players loadout is not fun, maybe have some ads that drop Unstoppable round for the next 5 shot or something, that would be cool

The bigger problem with the Ketchcrash step was, there was literally no way to know in-game that one master Ketchcrash will cover the step because of some unknown multiplier.
I shouldn't have to go to Reddit, social media or TH-cam to get the hot tip.
If the quest description clearly stated the multiplier or just straight up said finish one Master Ketchcrash then it would have been an interesting experiment to see how many went to LFG.
It would have still been rough for newer players who are underlight but maybe Master would be contest mode scaler and not purely LL.

I want to contribute something that I feel is frequently left out of the discussion nowadays.
One of the things that bothers me the most about master content in Destiny 2 (especially in the reprised raids) is the lack of master-exclusive loot to chase. SIX YEARS AGO (Destiny 1) we had a system that rewarded some of the finest looking armour cosmetics for completing the raids on hard mode. It feels like a real missed opportunity on Bungie's behalf to have not reprised the age of triumph armour ornaments for the master modes of VOG and KF in Destiny 2. I don't think this would flat out solve the loot issue in these modes, but it would definitely supplement content which is, at the moment, basically incentive-less.
I'm not advocating for Bungie to just recycle everything that looked cool in Destiny 1, I just wish they'd throw us vets a bone here or there, you know? It's frustrating to have put so much time into the game over the last 8 years only for Bungie to basically be indifferent towards us now. I still want them to make the game more accessible, but not at the cost of alienating the core player base that got Destiny to where it is now, through the thick and thin. I just want to relive some of that Destiny 1 magic again.

Master raid loot; Master weapons are all red bordered and count for the regular craftable weapon. Completing a master raid gives a single consumable memento per week that turns the regular crafted raid weapon into the Master version and lets it hold 2 (enhanced) perks and the adept mods.

To touch on the end part of the video: I wholeheartedly agree. A week or so before Witch Queen, I was talking to a lot of my friends about how the game is missing something, and they got me to realize that the game isn't hard anymore, especially compared to D1 in my eyes. Yeah, GM, Trials (for non sweats), and the like are tough, but that's for various reasons. I remember doing a story mission when Taken King came out that took my an hour, alone, to beat the boss of it, but it was sooo good feeling when I finally did it. Destiny, outside of the Legendary Campaign, is just way too easy. And subclass updates/upgrades didn't help that aspect.

One way to get more people to do master raids, flex items like glow armors, ornaments, the mementos weapon shader, stuff that you can flex on to other people in the tower. Another one to flex on is that glow title card on leviathan raid, make it so that the armor glows each week for completing the master raid to get people playing it each week.
