    Interesting, I always believed the Honda Z360 had a really tiny 4 cylinder.
    Honda made a few incredible tiny engines with lots of cylinders. I remember a V12 with just 1,5 liters displacement. (1960's F1 engine)

    Blasphemy! You forgot brazilian Gurgel BR-800 & Gurgel Supermini! 😂
    Both uses the ENERTRON 800 engine, which is basically a half VW 1600 air-cooled engine, but it is just a 800cc 2-cylinder boxer with couple enhancements, like water cooling. It wasn't powerful (only 32 horsepower), but it was very economic and the cars were very lightweight. Unfortunately the engine is prone to break the crankshaft if operated at full throttle at lower revs for long periods of time.
    The low center of gravity (due to de boxer engine), front engine and rear wheel drive looks pretty good on paper, but unfortunately the car is not fast enough to get much advantage from that nor powerful enough to do donuts at will.
    The car shared a lot of components and parts from bigger companies cars available at the brazilian market, like the Chevrolet Chevette differential and VW 1600 air-cooled engine pistons.

    Just a small correction. The earliest and smallest engine in the 2CV was a 375cc, not 325cc. It did have a power output of 9bhp as you say. The later 602cc engine fitted throughout the 1970s and 1980s had up to 33bhp, and up to 35bhp in the Ami-8.

    • @bertlbarm4374
      @bertlbarm4374 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the ami 8 had a 800cc engine with 44 hp too

    • @crashbox7130
      @crashbox7130 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, there was never an 800cc A-Series Citroen engine. The Ami-6 used a 602cc developed from the original 375/425cc 2CV engine, which was known as the M4 engine. The Ami-8 used a completely new engine developed by Panhard, which Citroen had taken control of during the 1960s. There were two basic versions of that engine. The 602cc and a 435cc, which was used in early Dyanes and in 2CVs from 1970 to 1978. The only other Ami that used a larger engine than the 602cc M28 engine was the Ami-Super which used the flat-four 1015cc engine from the Citroen GS, and produced 55bhp. There was a 652cc flat-twin fitted to the Citroen LN and Visa, which, I believe, was a heavily reworked M28 602cc. That wasn't fitted to any 2CV/Dyane/Ami models. Regards. :-)

    The trick of gutless engines was to rev the bollocks of them and flat shift (or close to it) after that Double D was essential as momentum was key and down shifting was were you'd kill any revs and momentum. Smooth shifts and keeping the revs as high as possible were essential.

    • @aussiebloke609

      That, and to corner as fast as possible, since any speed you lost under brakes took _forever_ to get back.

    Great video of some almost forgotten automobiles. Looking forward to part two???? Here is one you may not have been aware. DAF cars with varomatric belt drive. I only encountered one of these. My uncle chased an owner around Hartford Connecticut and on the third try, convinced the man to sell him the DAF he was driving. My uncle's plan was to restore it and keep the car in case of fuel shortages which, we did in fact experience in the early 70s in the US. Here is a link to get you started: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DAF_Daffodil. There is a new two cylinder out also but this is a diesel. I am sure you are aware of the diminutive Suzuki utility truck with 3 cylinder gas engines? Well, they now manufacture a two-cylinder diesel and both are available here in the Philippines where I currently live.

    2CV pronounces not like "two cee-vee", but "de'shvo"; and Dacia should sound not like "dacia", but more like "dakia" or "dachia". And thanx 4 video, you're awesome!

    • @MilanPokorny
      @MilanPokorny 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with the Dacia, a slovak should know, how to pronounce that. 2CV is just a number and two letters, not a proper name, i think that in this case it's ok to spell it in the language he's commenting the video.

    • @MyDarkStar451

      Shirixae Na'Eoshahn in fact,Dacia is pronounced by us,romanians,just as you said it shouldn't be pronounced. trust me

      Dacia used to be pretty common brand here in Czechoslovakia, we pronounced it like "Dáčia" (czech transcription), according to google translator (switched to romanian) it was correct.

    The Dacia Lăstun was supposed to be sold in two other variants: the "Student" (a faster version with different styling and the "Egreta" (a 4x4 mini SUV with a similar size to the Lăstun but with a more squared off grille and headlights). Sadly these projects never came to life further than prototypes, due to bad management of resources in Romania at the time. The Lăstun's faith could have been a much better one, if Romania and Dacia would have managed the resources better, hence the car's rarity on the streets today (hardly any, many maybe in the scrapyards).

    Before the Dacia 500, they wanted to make a car named Dacia Student, most likely pandering to the youth market at the time, buying a small car to get to and from the dorm or to travel back to their parents (most of the youth that would go to college would usually move to bigger cities). It had a 650cc inline 2 engine and a top speed of 110 km/h.
