Repairing vacuums is a job that really sucks, haha!

Aaand that's the last pair of socks you get, pal!
Steve and I are old friends from working together at BellSouth. He liked the uniform socks we could order, and I've been his supplier since he left. 😁

Thank you for your time on this! Just a little periodic maintenance allows most equipment to operate at or near peak efficiency throughout its life. Imagine how many people out in the world would rather throw it out and buy a new one rather than take an hour to clean it, calibrate, and turn it loose again.

Craig, I don't have to imagine. I've found 2 Roomba's on my morning run. Both just needed batteries.
They're well thought out devices, and do a far better job than I had ever thought possible.

Repairing home electronics is a lost basic skill set
When my mom’s 1964 Maytag wash machine started working she tinkered with it for a few minutes
And then told me to go order a new timer
    I said, are you sure?
She said yes, I went online and found it. They still made them an updated version that just needed. Some wires moved around easy instructions.
$60 later one week mail delivery and 20 minutes of my time unscrewing the old one and put in the new one reading instructions and then 1964 wash machine got many more years out of it .
They don’t teach that stuff anymore middle school electronics lab high school, auto shop, metal shop and wood shop. I’ve been eliminated out of the California curriculum decades ago.

We live in an age of planned obsolescence, of disposable, well, almost everything. Most folks want the shiny new model with the updated bells and whistles.
Your mom came from a generation that understood the value of a dollar, of wringing every dime out of something before replacing it. It's a shame that's been lost, because it's a big contributor to the amount of waste we generate.
I didn't encounter any training in repair while in school, although to be fair I never went to high school, where I'd heard that they had wood and auto shop. I did put myself through a vocational course when I turned 30; good luck finding one now.
