I am a reformed candy addict. I eat very healthy now which is why I watch you guys eat all the stuff I used to eat. The long, thin candy taffy in the paper was one of my favorites as a kid and I LOVED those weird wax bottles with the liquid center. The wax isn’t tasty but I used to love to just chew it. Fun to watch your experiences with these retro sweets. Brings me back to a different time 😁 🍬 🍭
I grew up in the 60's and 70's ... my mother had a pitcher of Kool-Aid made and stored in the refrigerator, my favorite was cherry and my mom would squeeze a lemon in to the juice for a little tang to cut the sweet and sometimes she would cut the sugar by a bit as well. Great box ... full of lots of things I ate as a child, thanks for sharing this one with us.
I was curious why you would crack pumpkin seeds. I wouldn’t even know how. Last time I made pumpkin seeds I spilled the all over the floor. I had a hard time keeping my cat out of it while I cleaned up the buttery/salty mess.
@@kerahbearah well I'm guessing it's because seeds are a big thing in the US not so much in other countries and they've only ever tried sunflower seeds so it's easy to think you'd eat them the same way. It would've helped had the person who sent them put a sticky note or something else on how to eat them
We got a Woody Willy every year when we went on a 13 hour car trip to see my grandparents. It was very much part of my childhood. They were what we had before Magna Doodles were available. I also love the flat taffy that is waxy, it is very nostalgic.
Kool Aid was invented in Nebraska, it’s really all we are famous for, other than corn. In American we would never think of having it hot. It’s always interesting how different we all think of doing things, which is one of the reasons I love watching you all! ❤️
The colour of that Koolade......... neon! Lovely retro feel and that Woolly Willy is iron filings and is very, very retro! Thanks Deb Wood and you guys!
I love taffy like that! That is a treat for me. One of those things that you just love every time you have it, and makes you think of your childhood. Now the wax things....never been a fan! I feel like it’s strange to chew on the wax too! But I know lots of people that love them! For the kool-aid, we’ve always had it in our fridge to drink! Now that’s a true childhood memory 😊 Glad you guys enjoyed that box.
The Kool-aid made me laugh and brought back so many childhood memories! We made a different flavor every night with dinner, in a Tupperware pitcher! If it was your turn to wash the dishes you got to chose the flavor! At the time we had no dishwasher and nobody had a clue that sugary drinks weren’t good for you! 😂
They’re called “Saf-T-pops” because they’re “safety pops”. Because of the loop it’s easier for small children to hold on to and the shape is designed so they don’t accidentally choke. They were supposed to be a safer alternatives to other lollipops on the market at the time like dum-dums.
Also we called them safe-Ty learning pops , given out by teachers and doctors cause they have number or letters on them for children to learn to count and learn the alphabet .
Yes, I've made Kool-Aid ice pops when I babysat for folks. I also remember my mom making pudding pops ( instant pudding packets) using bathroom paper cups (5 oz/ 125 ml) and popsicle sticks.
Wooly Willy! I used to play with those while sitting in the shopping cart while the parents got groceries. My parents had played with them, too, and now my nephew plays with one when dragged along on errands!
I swear I'm not stalking u but I was Thru the comments and came across one from a guy that commented about the length of your videos how they should be shorter how there should be less talking etc first of all don't u dare shorten the videos do less talking etc if all the gentleman wants is to view snacks he can Google his life away in search of his perfect online experience I live for your videos wish they were longer I could easily spend the afternoon being entertained by you both I adore both of you and want you to know how you make my life better! You are so lovely Ellen 💗💗Don't worry we will be keeping them long and chatty. So nice to hear we can help keep you entertained 💗Much love to you too!! 💗
Wow! Those candies bring back a lot of great memories ! The lollipops were made for safety reasons so children wouldn't be able to pull the pop off the top like they would a stick lollipop. They were even given out at the bank ,they would ask you what flavor you wanted mine was either cherry or grape, and the Woolly Willey was such a simple toy but it kept us busy in the car on long rides. Also when we were good our parents would let us go to the candy store and go back to the candy counter and behind the big glass case we could pick out a dollars worth of penny candy so back in the 60's that was a lot of candy for each of us. And believe it or not that same candy company/ store still has the same candy case and still have some penny candies as well, when we go visit my mother ( she lives 3 hours away from us) we always go and get hand dipped ice cream and. We still go to the candy counter and still pick out a bag of candy, our son still enjoys it even though he is 25 years old and I am 56 years old and my hubby is 61 years old, but you know you never are too old to Love a tradition. We miss it and my Mother since covid !!sigh!! Hopefully next year we can get up to see her. Loved the video as usual!! Kate Loved the silver teeth!!LOL! Hugs from Lancaster,Pa.💓😘
That's such a good idea! Love that your bank handed out lollies! Very jel. I could see Woolly Willy being great for car journeys. That is so cool. So nice you still go back to that shop. I love the sound of dipped ice cream. We don't seem to really do that here. 😍Never too old for a tradition. I really hope you can visit next year and continue your tradition. Haha thank you. Really enjoyed them 😂hugs to you too 💗
They are called safety pops (spelled wrong) and every dr office had them for treats for good kids, the reason the stick is that way was for safety so small children wouldn’t chicken on them
I watch tooons of shows and films in other languages, I’m team subtitles for sure, I use them no matter what language though 😂 you get these fun little added notes, like ‘hair quivers with emotion’. Best ever. Loved this video 💕 you guys are the best.
I actually use subtitles when they speak English 😂I just felt like the dubbing on it seemed to make more sense! Haha yes 😂So funny those! So glad you loved this video 💗
I started to watch some of your videos with my 1 year old daughter and she kept pointing at Alex and going Dada, Dada. 😂😂I think its because her Daddy has a beard too 😂xx
Hi guys! I have had some of these treats. The lollipops with the rings are called "saftypops.' They are good for kids. There is no hard stick. Doctor's also give these to their kid patients.
We used to drink kool aid while eating popcorn (popped via an air popper nor microwave) on Friday nights while either watching TGIF or a movie as a family. Koolaid was what we were allowed to drink instead of soda.
Great video guys arhat Wooly Willy was a favorite thing to play with, old fashioned candy I forgot about Nikki nips and all those hard candies. Have a great week and stay safe💕💕🦋🦋
Oh my gosh, Al’s beard has really grown in! I meant to say that the last time! But another great box! Haven’t ever seen those little gums! They remind me of chicklets! And so many great ideas I’m stealing to send to my mates in Australia that we swap boxes with! The baseball cards and willy! And big league chew! I can’t remember if you’ve been sent Tang, but the Kool Aid reminded me of that! And yes we loved making kool aid popsicles as a kid! Hugs and love to you all and hoping you’re having a great week! ❤️❤️
Haha it really had 😂 🧔🏻 so many great ideas for the swap box. You should definitely do a retro style one. They could too! No we’ve never tried tang either. Hugs and love to you too. Have a wonderful weekend ♥️♥️
Kate is thinking of a Magna Doodle, it came with a magnetic pen and some shaped magnets (a triangle, a circle and a donut I believe) and you slid the bar across to erase, Etch a Sketch you flipped it over and shook it. My dad's best friend taught me write in script on an Etch a Sketch during a campout weekend (it was the only toy around), and now when I'm in a store's toy department and I see an Etch a Sketch I'll write messages on them. (usually Hi or Have a good day but I have written Kilroy was here lmao)
I always use two packets of the Kool aid and 1 cup of sugar and then the water, it just tastes too washed out and super sweet with just one packet. They also make it already mixed with sugar just add water, which tastes the same as I normally make it. And they also make in squeeze bottles ready to drink and lately they made it in those Crystal light things Kate enjoys.
i had a wolly willy when a child. they still have saf t pops at doctors offices or some banks for kids. most of these retro candies are still sold in stores here
Omg. I totally forgot about the Woolly Willy. My grandparents always gave us those when we would travel. 🤗 Thank you both for taking me down memory lane. You should try the Cry Baby wax bottles. They are so sour but nice.
I totally felt nostalgic and could almost remember opening my first pack of ball cards after probably 30 years... Paraphrasing- "oh look at the back there's details". Got me right in the feels. Opening packs with my dad was a lot of fun, I didn't even know about the players for another 10 years, or even the sport for that matter. I also remember hoards of cereal boxes in our freezer because packs came in them at one point for a few years, so yeah I ate a lot of cereal and absolutely loved it.
love you Kate and Alex keep up the good work I told my family and friends to subscribe to your channel as they will be addicted to snacking while watching your videos hehe 😂💞🙌
Aww the pumpkin 🎃 seeds bring me back to my childhood. Every Halloween my family would make a Jack-o-lantern, and then make pumpkin seeds from the pumpkin guts.
I remember when I was little every time my parents went to the bank my brother and I would each get a safety pop. They’re supposed to be easier for children to hold onto especially in the car and if a child fell wile eating it wouldn’t stab them.
The flat taffy is a carnival and fair staple here they do it like that so you don’t have to unwrap individual pieces while walking around plus it cuts down on litter!!! It’s like the corn dog of fair candy
We love watching shows on Netflix, "stranger things" you have enough time to watch the first season!! The new one doesn't air until like September. I think you would really like this show!!!
I am glad that you tried koolaid again and enjoyed it...I really enjoy taffy, the mix bag candy, head candies, but I have never tried the butterscotch peanut butter cups..I may need to look for them. Stay safe and have a blessed day.
Abba Zabba is still my favorite vintage candy, my nana would always split one with me as a child. It came out in the 1940s, it’s a vanilla taffy bar filled with peanut butter
🐳 That was a very FUN box !! We used to love the wax bottles. At Halloween they would also pass out wax teeth and wax lips and mustaches that were licorice flavored wax. Thanks for the great adventure. Blessings from California. 🍬🍭
Thanks Mary 😀 Wax was obviously a big thing then!! We have tried those wax lips. Very strange as we don’t have anything like that here. Thank you for watching Mary 🥰
I loved all the wax goodies at Halloween there was a lipstick that was also edible the good ol days when kids could go out trick or treating themselves and actually get good candy edible parents didn't have to scan everything you knew all your neighbors for blocks around guess I'd better stop! Ah to be back in the 50s and 60s
Supermarket sweep from 1993 is an early look in early 90s fashion and products in American supermarkets. Breaking Bad is a great series to watch too. Even though Avatar the last air bender is a kid’s show, it’s still a fun and great show to watch. It has action, drama and of course comedy.
Orange is one of my favorite KoolAid flavor. I also like the grape mixed with dark cherry. I also used to eat that kind of Taffy back in the late 60s early 70s when I was little. I liked the red colored taffy
I enjoy the retro boxes. I remember seeing some and I think ate a few as I wasn’t allowed much candy as a kid 😞. But when I was it was always the good stuff 😊. Alex., are you going to be Santa 🎅🏻 this year ? Your beard is definitely on its way to being great as a Santa lol 😂. So happy to see you both enjoy and have fun. As always, wishing you and your family well 😊👍💕
Glad you enjoyed the retro boxes! We really love trying them. Hahaha yes 😂he will need to dye it grey though 😂Thank you Lynda. Wishing you and your family the best too! 💗
The Wooly Willy toy was a favorite prize for winning games like musical chairs or pin the tail on the donkey at birthday parties! Also, I have used the Nik-L-Nips as decorations for the sides of a lemon cake. All the treats were just the thing for kids with a small allowance. I agree with you about the pumpkin seeds. Too much work for very little enjoyment.
Fun Fact: we can get a lot of these "retro" treats at Cracker Barrel in the US. Loving your long hair Kate! And Alex's beard is a beast in it's own right!
As a kid my mom would pour mixed kool-aid into ice cube trays and then when it was solid enough...but not all the way frozen, she would put a tooth pick in each compartment and then we would have mini popsicles in the summer. You can also pour the mixed kool-aid into ice cube trays and after they are frozen add them to Sprite or 7up or mineral water for added flavoring. :)
Wow what a blast from my past but the only flavor we had those flat taffy in was strawberry vanilla chocolate .after elementary which you call primary we had mary candy store penny candy all of those things were things she sold thanks for showing this you put a smile on my face.
My dad was born in 1956. Butterscotch is a pudding here, bazooka bubble gum used to have a cotton candy flavor that was so good. The wax on the Nik-l-nip is good for your teeth. It has xyletol in it, which helps prevent bacteria from sticking to your teeth. Those suckers are called saf-t-pops. The stick being curved and around a child's finger makes it less likely that they will choke, or swallow the stick. Candy lipsticks are one of my favorites I wish I knew where to find them. Canels gum is actually a Mexican candy, but I love them. The Houston Astros baseball team, used to be the tulsa oilers hockey team. When it comes to the koolaid, you add 1.5 cups, not one because its still too bitter, put it in warm water and let it cool, and when we became adults, here in oklahoma we started putting vodka in it, and calling it cowboy kool-aid.
The root beer candy is called Root beer barrels,at least that's what we called them. Kool aid is very iconic even though it was used by the cult leader.
Always subtitles as you can feel the emotion of the actors better. I also had the Kool-Aid growing up as a child in Canada. We used cold water and a cup of sugar, however, if our parents weren't around, sometimes 2 cups. I just had some Kool-Aid just a little while ago. But since I am in my 50's with diabetes, I use the Mio type. And of course Orange is my favourite.
We only used to find the flat taffy at the street fair or 4-H fair! Big Lots is the only place I've seen that in years. When my husband was growing up he would sprinkle the koolaid powder on vanilla ice cream! 😋
Big league was definitely a favorite of mine as a child, the grape flavor was my favorite. As a treat growing up...my mom would make a batch of Kool Aid and poor it in a ice tray to make mini popsicles...I remember that I was the one kid who wasn't patient enough to wait for them to freeze properly...so she would make them without me knowing so they'll be ready to eat when the time came...lol!
Great box, but have to say the pumpkin seeds took me back. Use to get them at the dime store regularly. At Halloween we would clean our pumpkins and bake the seeds ourselves. Yummy!
The goo goos!!! Grew up on them, and i currently live 5 min from Nashville! Also, I had a cousin who starred in the very first episode of the show Nashville!
@This With Them When I was a kid in the 1960's and 1970s we would fill ice cube trays with kool aid, place plastic wrap over the top and then insert toothpicks and freeze them for home made Popsicles. FYI, I prefer the cherry flavor but I only use a half a cup of sugar per packet in a half gallon pitcher.
I love the retro candy from my childhood growing up in the Bronx and you can go to the candy store everything was in glass jars and 5 cents each good old days! In the summer time we would have a cool aid jug in the fridge with grape cool aid ice cold was the best refreshing drink in a hot day!
Big league chew was fun as a kid, because in the day, baseball players used to chew tobacco a lot and that is why big league chew is shredded, to simulate chewing tobacco ,so kids could imitate their favorite player
Root beer barrels! My grandfather used to keep them to share with the grandchildren every time we visited my grandparents. That was back in the late 50s/early 60s, so yeah, retro FOR SURE! I still think of my grandfather every time I have those! By the way, next time you drink a root beer soda, think on what you're tasting.... most people don't realize that wintergreen is one of the chief ingredients of root beer. Once you know that, it's easy to pick out and recognize whenever you drink root beer. :-)
You should try filling an ice cube tray with cool aid and cover it with Saran Wrap and put a toothpick through the Saran Wrap in each ice cube and make home made pop cicles
My Great Grandmother lived in rural Pennsylvania. Her little town had a "penny-candy" section in the corner store. She'd give us each $1 and we'd come back with a brown sandwich bag FULL of these retro candies and many more. Good memories ☺️😊
I just started watching High Seas and I watch it dubbed (watch on my phone) and Im not just sitting and watching, I'm usually doing other things around the house
For Netflix TV recommendations, I'm currently obsessed with both Lucifer and Schitt's Creek. I was a little late to the party on both of those, so you may have already seen them.

Magic Slate - it was a black wax laid on cardboard with a plastic film you lift to erase. A small red plastic pencil used to make your art.

We drank so much Kool-Aid as kids, now it seems so sweet. It’s cheap to make about 10 cents a package. Thanks for another great video, stay safe🥰
Wow that's so cheap!! Thanks Dawn. Stay safe too
Kaet and alex best ☺🙂
"Little Fires Everywhere" is amazing. You have to watch it if you havent already! All-star cast.
I LOVED IT!!! Such a great show!
Regarding the Kool Aid, we actually did used to drink it hot in the winter as it was cheaper than making hot cocoa.
We will have to try this
I remember when I was little every time my parents went to the bank my brother and I would each get a safety pop. They’re supposed to be easier for children to hold onto especially in the car and if a child fell wile eating it wouldn’t stab them.
Oh I loved the Wooly Willy as a kid! Great box this time!!
The flat taffy is a carnival and fair staple here they do it like that so you don’t have to unwrap individual pieces while walking around plus it cuts down on litter!!! It’s like the corn dog of fair candy
Ahh that’s such a good idea. So many people litter at fairs don’t they!!
We love watching shows on Netflix, "stranger things" you have enough time to watch the first season!! The new one doesn't air until like September. I think you would really like this show!!!
I loved stranger things. Can’t wait for the next season!
I am glad that you tried koolaid again and enjoyed it...I really enjoy taffy, the mix bag candy, head candies, but I have never tried the butterscotch peanut butter cups..I may need to look for them. Stay safe and have a blessed day.
Those butterscotch peanut butter cups were a great surprise for me! Really enjoyed them. You too Susan, stay safe
Abba Zabba is still my favorite vintage candy, my nana would always split one with me as a child. It came out in the 1940s, it’s a vanilla taffy bar filled with peanut butter
Samantha Clostermery They are really good ! The mini ones are fun ! Now I want one ! I haven’t eaten one in years. Blessings from California. 🌼
You guys are amazing together!! The goodies look so yummy😍💖
ah thank you so much!!! 💗
Supermarket sweep from 1993 is an early look in early 90s fashion and products in American supermarkets. Breaking Bad is a great series to watch too. Even though Avatar the last air bender is a kid’s show, it’s still a fun and great show to watch. It has action, drama and of course comedy.
Ahh I loved our UK supermarket sweep. I’ll have to watch the US one! Loved Breaking had such a good show!
Orange Kool Aid is absolutely the BEST flavour!!! So happy to see you guys try that one. Never tried making it with warm water before, cool tip!
It was so yum!!! Yes give it a go!! Melts the sugar straight away!
I watch your videos almost every day. They are so enjoyable to watch!!
Keep up the good work!!
Ah thank you so much! So lovely to hear 🥰
Orange is one of my favorite KoolAid flavor. I also like the grape mixed with dark cherry. I also used to eat that kind of Taffy back in the late 60s early 70s when I was little. I liked the red colored taffy
It was so nice! That’s so cool to mix two. Never even thought to do that! Love that!
love your videos thank you for keeping me sane during this lockdown😊😊
♥️♥️♥️
Wonderful trip down memory lane! Enjoy!
Yaay that’s awesome 😀😀
Loooooooove this retro editions 💞
Yaaaaay
I loved Wooly Willy as a kid. I was fascinated by the "magic" (magnet and iron filings)
I am obsessed with watching How to get away with Murder on Netflix! Sooo good!!
I need to watch this
The Wooly Willy toy was a favorite prize for winning games like musical chairs or pin the tail on the donkey at birthday parties!
Love that you can.
Thank you Tonya, it's really grown!! Haha it is 😂
As a kid my mom would pour mixed kool-aid into ice cube trays and then when it was solid enough...but not all the way frozen, she would put a tooth pick in each compartment and then we would have mini popsicles in the summer.
You guys are so funny. I laughed a lot this time. I love funny people!
You guys ever thought of subscribing to universal Yums or snack crate?? They have some really nice boxes from places around the world, I love them!
I think we have had a box from one of those! Good idea that they do treats from around the world
This With Them I loved them! I’ve gotten Russia, Korea, France, Greece, South Africa and a few more that I can’t remember. Definitely recommend!
The root beer candy is called Root beer barrels,at least that's what we called them. Kool aid is very iconic even though it was used by the cult leader.
We used to get the safety pops from the dentist.. LOL.. funny also there was a dental ad attached to your video.
How funny!!! It's strange when things like that happen!
Yes that is true! I must try that next time! Haha love that 😂 Oh cool! That's good you could use the Mio type!
Love that!!
Great box, but have to say the pumpkin seeds took me back. Use to get them at the dime store regularly. At Halloween we would clean our pumpkins and bake the seeds ourselves. Yummy!
Thank you Linda! Glad we could take you back! We have done that a couple times too. Very delicious with salt & pepper
yes, koolaid is used to make ice pops in the summer as a DIY with your kids for decades.
Ahh love that! Such a good idea
The goo goos!!! Grew up on them, and i currently live 5 min from Nashville! Also, I had a cousin who starred in the very first episode of the show Nashville!
Pretzels dipped in peanut butter is my favorite snack
Alex likes that too
I agree Sarah. Love them too
I love your videos. Keep making these amazing videos. You guys amazing. Hope you guys have a great day and stay safe. 😊❤️
Thank you Lynzi 🥰 so nice of you to say. Stay safe too ♥️
Our pediatrician gives out the Saf-T-Pops after the kids see the doctor. They are a hit.
Yeees! Go Stros! My family is a huge ASTROs fan and I loved hearing them!
Yaay 😀
@This With Them When I was a kid in the 1960's and 1970s we would fill ice cube trays with kool aid, place plastic wrap over the top and then insert toothpicks and freeze them for home made Popsicles. FYI, I prefer the cherry flavor but I only use a half a cup of sugar per packet in a half gallon pitcher.
That is such a good idea! Mini ice pops, how cute!
The root beer candies are called root beer barrels. I actually don’t like them but when I was a kid they were in my grandmothers candy dish.
Ah love that!
I finally get to watch this week's video, been an insanely hectic week!
Love your vids guys absolutely amazing 👍🏾
Thank you so much 😀
Reese's take5 has chocolate covered peanut butter, pretzel and caramel I believe!
Yes!
I was thinking the same thing!
I remember when I was a little kid the doctor used to had a bag of those little suckers for the kids that had appointments
The double stick lolli pops we used to get at the drs office.
They had a board with a red stick. You drew on it and to erase it you would pick up the plastic sheet on top to erase it.
Oh , yeah ! Those were fun also ! Forgot about those ! Blessings from California. 👩🏻🤝👨🏽
Someone named Tamara mentioned them also, she said they are called Magic Slate. Y’all have better memories than me ! 🦋
Great video, but I literally laughed out loud when you were playing with the Wooly Willy and Alex said “it goes back to being Matt Lucas”. Greatness!
I screamed when y’all started singing drake😂😂I love you guys lol
The BEST thing about Thursdays!!!! Xxxxxxxx
Yaaaay 🥰♥️ enjoy watching xxxxxxxx
You should try filling an ice cube tray with cool aid and cover it with Saran Wrap and put a toothpick through the Saran Wrap in each ice cube and make home made pop cicles
We use to make popsicles with the koolaid. You can add sprite to it makes it great
Wow this sounds amazing
Dark on Netflix is sooooo good, and you have to watch it in German with the subtitles...if you don't speak German of course!
My Great Grandmother lived in rural Pennsylvania. Her little town had a "penny-candy" section in the corner store. She'd give us each $1 and we'd come back with a brown sandwich bag FULL of these retro candies and many more. Good memories ☺️😊
This is amazing! It's a shame they don't do penny sweets anymore. I used to get penny sweet too when I was younger.
@@ThisWithThem we actually have a shop in a nearby mall. They do quarter, or half dollar candies but that adds up faster 😉
Safe-tee pops. They used to give them to kids after your doctor appointments. "Safe" for kids because there is no stick.
I've finished Schitt's Creek recently!! It's so so good isn't it!
@@ThisWithThem I love it! I haven't seen season 6 yet so I'm anxiously waiting for Netflix to add it. watching David and Alexis bicker always makes laugh.
