Franz Schubert (1797-1828). Unfinished/Unvollendet/Befejezetlen Symphony in b minor, No.8, D.759 The Leningrad Philharmonic, Yevgeny Mravinsky, conductor 1978
Great interpretation by Mravinsky and the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. Dramatism and colour of the instruments really astonishing. The orchestra is pushed to the limit of its possibilities, just marvelous.
Of course, better than Klemperer's or Furtwängler's or Horenstein's!!! With all my respect for the other conductors, Mravinsky is for me a revelation, allowing me to hear to a Schubert wich in musicality, in colorfullness and expressivness was and is not reached by no other conductor. I only ask myself why the other conductors could not hear what Mravinsky renders with his interpretation.
Well I can tell you the name of another conductor who matched this. Joseph Krips, an almost forgotten name now, whose recording of this symphony (late 60's I think) is equally as fine and with better sound as well.
"Неоконченная" Шуберта - утешение по жизни. Но в этой интерпретации открылись такие красоты, такая глубина, что у меня впервые мурашки...При всей моей привязанности к фон Караяну.)))
Yevgeny Mravinsky MY conductor since years. With this music he speak to God. Maestro we love your Art of Conducting ! We love you for ever !

Certainly the best performance of this wonderful composition that I've ever heard.
"Mravinsky, what a conductor" (S. Richter).
This is a truly excellent version of the Unfinished Symphony which hits the spot in every aspect.
Impressive!!! Thank you, Alexander Zimmerman for sharing this!
another great unfinished Mravinsky one of the greatest.

0:21 ... wonderful :D
@@TheVaughan5 Thank you for your suggestion. You are right. I have heard the version with Josef Krips and got a permanent shower with goos skeen.
Great performance!
GENIAL.
My darling teacher Vladimir Kurlin plays principal oboe here.

Treasure 1:41
Straordinario.
Unfortunately, the audio and video are not synchronized making it impossible for a musician to watch. But one can listen without watching...too bad...
Jevgeny Mravinsky, der russische Furtwängler!
My most favorite recording for schubert 8th is schuriht/vpo. Muravinsky is very good but sound of leningrad is avarage level.
Mravinsky would have been against the war in Ukraine
