    Module Description
    This module reviews the pulmonary blueprint for the PCCN Examination. This review of includes pulmonary physiology, pulmonary drugs, acute respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation strategies, pneumonia, aspiration pneumonia, chest-tube care, acute asthma, pulmonary embolus, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and thoracic surgery. Nursing care of the patient with pulmonary failure is the focus. Monitoring oxygenation and ventilation are included.
    Module Learning Objectives
    This module prepares the learner to:
    Discuss the concepts of oxygenation and ventilation for the adult patient with or without pulmonary dysfunction.
    List and discuss strategies to enhance oxygenation and ventilation.
    Devise nursing interventions for the patient with pulmonary dysfunction.
    Discuss nursing strategies to prevent aspiration pneumonia, improve alveolar recruitment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
    Discuss monitoring techniques for the assessment of oxygenation and ventilation.
    List and discuss strategies of care for the patient with thoracic surgery.

    For time 00:31:00, shouldn't the second example be partially compensated metabolic acidosis?

    The abg first question doesn’t make sense as far as the answer. What’s causing the blow up of co2 should be fix 1st. O2 in abg is normal.

      Good morning! We received a response from Cammy today:
      The patient's ABG suggests acute non-compensated respiratory alkalosis. When you look to see why, the patient is breathing fast and blowing off the CO2 (you are correct). But the question is why are they breathing fast??
      The physiologic reason for hyperventilation is: hypoxemia or metabolic acidosis--this example demonstrates tissue hypoxia. Although a normal PAO2 is 80-100---for this patient it is hypoxic.
