And ngl, I was struggling with the waist ribbing part because I gathered the panels in a wrong way so many times but this may be due to the fact that I preferred to do the mattress stitch in whole work (since I had difficulty to align the lines of the panels with the stitch shown in the video). It took me a week to do and is the most beautiful thing that I ever crocheted!! 💓 from Brazil!!

Hi! So sorry that it is confusing! I didn’t mean to miss it out but I don’t have footage of sewing it on anymore unfortunately so I can’t make another video - but I do have another vest that has the same type of neckline and waist ribbing. It’s a mauve/light purple vest and the title is crochet cropped knit look button up vest. I explain a bit more how to do it in that video, so hopefully that might help a little bit but I’ll also try to explain: You’ll need to attach the waist ribbing first. Put a stitch maker into one end of the ribbing and into one side of the front opening and then put another stitch marker into the other end of the ribbing and the other side of the front opening. Then you’ll need to stretch it around the back evenly, putting in a few more stitchmarkers and stitch it up with a darning needle. For the neckline trim, it’s essentially the same, you’ll need to put a stitch marker into one end of the trim, and the bottom of the waist ribbing at the front opening. The neckline ribbing will be stitched into the waist ribbing. Then you’ll need to put another stitch marker in the other end of the neckline ribbing and attach that to the bottom of the waist line ribbing on the other side of the front opening. Then you need to put a couple more stitch markers around the neckline to stretch it out evenly and sew it up 😊 I hope this helps 🥰🥰🥰

Hi Tihany! Thanks so much :) and that's not a stupid question at all! I've just updated my description on the video to include a link to the sizing guide I use to work out the sizes. The most important measurement for this vest would probably be your chest and waist (rows 1 and 8 in the measurement table). Once you have those measurements you can check which size in the size guide most closely matches you measurements! Mine are closest to the small so that's the size I made in the video. The other measurement you may want is the measurement from the top of your shoulder to where you want the top to finish - for reference my top is about 45cm or 18". If you want it longer or shorter than that you could add or take a couple of rows from the first section of each panel. Please let me know if any of that doesn't make sense or you have anymore questions :)
Amazingly informative video thank you so much! One question- is there a part in the video showing how the waist and neck trim are attached? I've done the 93 rows for the waist and when I put it against the main body it doesn't fully go around it. I thought watching until the end would make things clearer but I'm even more stumped 😅😂
Hi Katie! So sorry I missed adding that part to the video! But yes my ribbing is also a little shorter than the bottom of my main body so it can synch it in a bit. The ribbing is stretchy so will have a little give and may stretch out a bit when you’re wearing it but if you want it to be totally flat that would work too! You could just add rows as you need until it’s the same width as the main body and it would be fine 😊 I sewed mine up by putting a stitch marker in each end and connecting that to the ends of the main body - then stretching it so it’s even with the body and putting a couple more stitch markers in. Then you can just stitch it up and it’ll be even around, but synching a little bit tighter 😊 whichever way you go would work so totally up to you!! Should I go up a size (from S to M) if I do use weight 3 or should I make the same size as I would with weight 4 yarn (size S)?
Thanks so much! It’s hard to say exactly so I think the best thing would be to do the chain/first row for the small and measure it to compare to the cm measurement. Then if it’s too small you’ll know you’ll need to go up a size! But if it’s close to the small measurement you’ll be all good 😊 if it turns out your yarn is a bit thinner I can let you know the vertical measurements (up the armpit etc.) Let me know if you have any trouble! 🥰
No problem at all 😊depending on how cropped you want it to be you can add or take as much length in the section under the armpit as you want! Mine is 14cm up to the arm hole decreases for both panels. For the front panels, the section with decreases on both sides of the panel is 3.5cm then continuing the decreases only on one side for the neckline for the next 7cm. The last section of the front panels with no decreases at the shoulder is 6cm. For the back panel the section with decreases on both sides is also 3.5cm and then straight up for the next 13cm. Hopefully that helps but please let me know if you need any other measurements 😊

It don't think they sell the brand I used outside Australia, but it looks and feels almost exactly the same as the Lion's Brand Feels Like Butta yarn if that helps! Hi! No problem 😊 for the both the front and back panels the first portion up to the arm pit is 14cm high. The decrease section for the arm is 3.5cm. Then for the back panel, after the arm decreases until the top of the panel is 13cm. For the front panel, the section with decrease just on one side is 7cm and the remaining rows with no decreases is 6cm 😊 let me know if you have any trouble! 🥰
i really really love this vest, iv been looking for this type!! and ur video is the best instructional crocheting video iv ever seen! but i have a question, if i have super bulky yarn, can i make the chain half than what it normally is for size small? because i made 26 chains for small and the first piece/ arm hole turned out 2 times larger than urs. so im wondering if itll have the same outcome if i make 15 chains instead of 26 for example. thank u so much for ur awesome video tho!!
Thank you so much 🥰 I glad you like it! Yes I think making a smaller chain should work! The front panels of my vest are 17cm / 6 3/4” wide so if you’re doing the same size maybe you could try as many chains as equal to that! The back panel is 39cm / 15 1/3” wide 😊 hopefully those measurements help!
Also the measurement m from the waist to under the armpit before the decreases is 16cm or 6 1/4 inches. Then the measurement going up from the armpit to the top of the shoulder (measuring straight up from that row not around the arm hole) is about 25cm or just under 10 inches 😊

hey! thanks so much for this tutorial! i have a question tho. i’m currently working on making one for me, i’m following pattern A and i’m making my vest just one color (black) so it’s kinda hard for me to count each row as i go lol. so for the front panels, when making the arm straps, how many double crochet stitches should i end with at the top? i ended up with 8 but idk if that’s right and i’m worried the straps will be too short on me. should i add a couple more rows and end with 5 stitches?
Hey! I ended with 8 stitches at the top 😊 once I got down to 8 stitches, I did 7 rows with no decreases to make the strap longer just going straight up. Did you do that part and it’s still too small? You could definitely do a couple more rows with decreases until you get to 5 stitches, you would just end up with a slight thinner strap but it won’t affect the vest in any other way 😊 if you don’t want a thinner strap then I would just add a few more rows with no decrease, just continue doing the 8 stitches for a bit 😊 please let me know if any of that doesn’t make sense!! 🥰🥰🥰

@@rainbow_froggy536 my ribbing was also a little shorter than the base of the top because I wanted it to be pulled a little tighter and I find that backloop stitches stretch out for me between washes, at least with the yarn I used. If you want it to be fully flat though it would be fine to add rows until is equal 😊 and sorry I missed that part in the video! I just stitched it together with a darning needle, making sure the ribbing was evenly stretched around 😊
I love this tutorial sm! Although I want to try making one for myself and using the size xs, my concern is i want it to look rlly fitter and based on the commission I got off of this tutorial, I feel like the arm hole would be rlly big for my body. Thanks so much!! And shouldn’t be too hard to make the armhole smaller. I think it depends a little in what way you want to make it smaller but the simplest way I think would be to add a couple of extra stitches to the ribbing around the arm holes to make it thicker which will make the armhole smaller. Or a few less rows for the arm ribbing to make it tighter. If you want the armhole of the body of the vest to be smaller then if you take a couple of rows from the top part of the front and back panels (after the armhole decreases) and add that to the section below the arm hole, that would bring the arm hole higher up to the arm pit. But you’d have to make sure to still do the neckline decreases at the same place. Another option would be to do a couple less decreases for the armhole, that would make it smaller but make the shoulder portion a little bigger. The last thing I can think of is to make the whole vest a bit smaller if you want it to be tighter - either by using a slightly smaller hook or I can work out the stitch count/measurements for an XXS if that would help! Let me know if you like any of those ideas and need more elaboration! I clearly have too many ideas haha 😊 hopefully one will help you though! 🥰🥰🥰

No problem :) I've tried to line up the stitch counts/measurement with the video but please let me know if I've missed any! For the front panel chains for XXS is 18 chains and 12 cm Front panel stitches for XXS will be 16 stitches Back panel chains is 40 chains and 29 cm Back panel stitches is 38 stitches Waist ribbing is 60 rows Neckline ribbing is 87 rows and the arm hole will be the same :) If you want to make the vest shorter as well the easiest place to remove rows would be from the section under the arm hole, or you could try remove rows from higher up to also make the arm hole smaller. That'll also mean you'd need to make the neck ribbing a little shorter too and the arm ribbing if that where you take rows away. Please let me know if anything doesn't make sense!
Hi - thank you for this! I have a question about the neck ribbing. I made the vest longer than yours, and I'm wondering how you calculated how many stitches you need for the neck ribbing? Is it two SC ribs per DC in the vest? and then one SC for along the top of the ribbing (where it would match up against the top of the DCs)? I'm sure I can figure it out with trial and error, but I thought I'd ask the expert first!
Hi :) It's hard to be exact because of the stitches across the back of the neck plus the waist ribbing but assuming you also did 10 stitches for your waistband, the ratio of ribbing stitches for the neckline to rows/stitches around the neckline for me was 1.25:1. So if I multiple the number of rows for each panel plus the stitches along the back (34+34+30=98) by 1.25 I get 122.5 which is just shy of how many rows I had (123 sts). Hopefully that makes sense! But if you decide you want to make it through trial and error maybe it would be worth making it in reverse with the button hole section first placing the holes where you want the buttons to be. Then that way you can just keep adding rows until you're happy rather than having to undo the whole button hole section if you want to make it a bit longer/shorter :) please let me know if you need any other info!
Hi! Yes you could use double crochets instead if you prefer - it would just make the vest slightly longer as double crochet rows are slightly taller than lemon peel stitch rows. Depending on how long you wanted it to be, you could probably just remove a couple of rows here and there on each panel but it also wouldn’t make it a lot longer if you just stuck with the same rows 😊 I hope that helps! 🥰

And the ribbing that will go under it is 5cm or 2 inches, so together the total length from armpit to the bottom of the vest is 21cm or 8 1/4 inches. Then the measurement going up from the armpit to the top of the shoulder (measuring straight up from that row not around the arm hole) is about 25cm or just under 10 inches! @@StephanieTashi Would u also be able to give the width measurement? from edge to edge of the front panels and then the back panel as well? i'm actually trying to make a vest with the lemon peel stitch that's full length and baggier, so i'm using this video as a kind of base but freehanding/adding length/space where needed, but it's a lot harder than I expected! I've been working on the front panel for a really long time now, but i just realized that the width is a little short because as i mentioned my yarn is a lot thinner than yours. so i might have to restart : / anyways, thank you!
No problem at all! The front panels for the small I made are 17cm/6 3/4” wide and the back panel is 39cm/15 1/3”. Oh no! That’s such a bummer if you have to start over! If it’s almost wide enough you could try making the ribbing around the neck a bit wider? But in the end I know I never regret redoing something if it’s not exactly what I want! Oh no! Hopefully these measurements help! The section with decreases on both sides on the panel (the underarm and neckline) should be about a 2.8cm reduction on each side. So the remaining section of the panel will be about 11.4cm after the decreases. Then the next rows with decreases only for the neckline should a reduction in the panel for 5.7cm with the remaining shoulder portion measuring 5.7cm in total left. Please let me know if you need any other measurements or if anything I’ve included doesn’t make sense! 🥰🥰
Sorry I have just set about it again. When you said 2.8cm is that the depth of the decrease or how much a row is reduced widthways. I am doing the large size so will need to adjust. Many thanks x
the 2.8cm is how much the entire decrease section is reduced by for the underarm portion. So each row would be reduced by about 0.7 cm for the 4 rows. Another option could also be to skip some stitches under the arm hole entirely and just make the arm hole at a right angle, or both skip stitches and then do some decreases. Because you can add trim to the arm hole it will even it out mostly so won’t look too different! 🥰

Hi! Did you stop doing the decreases after the 27th row? After the 27th row there should be anymore decreases for armhole C. But arm hole C does create a bigger arm hole and that eats into the front and back panels so it would have less stitches than the one I made but the ribbing for the arm and the neckline will add a couple of cm on each side 😊

I can find the measurements for it or if you wanted to work it out you could take the measurement of the width and the back panel plus the width of the front panel x2, then minus about 5cm if you want the ribbing to be flat with the vest or minus 10cm if you want it to be cinched around the bottom 😊 but happy to help find the measurements for the size you are making 🥰🥰

I have a question, so if I followed arm hole c, and I get to row 28, should I only have 5 stitches? 6 if you count the chain 2..because I feel like that may be wrong.
Hi Shannon! that’s right 😊 the bigger arm hole cuts into the top of the shoulder sections a bit and makes it thinner. If you don’t like the size of the shoulder section you could undo a couple of rows and stop the neckline decreases a little earlier (the other side to the arm hole) or you could also make the ribbing for the arm or neck a little wider 😊 the ribbing that I’ve done will add about 3.5cm per ribbing so the shoulder will be around 7cm plus the measurement of the 5 stitches! I hope this helps but please let me know if you have any other questions 🥰
Hi! Sorry I forgot to include that! I just used some of the teal yarn and darning needle and pushed the yarn through the button and then the ribbing and tied it at the back. You could also use a thinner needle and thread and sew it on like you would normally sew a button - there are TH-cam tutorial for that too if you are unsure 😊
Hi Theresia :) I think if you used all one colour there would still be a pattern but it wouldn’t be as obvious. If you want to get an idea what it would look like search for lemon peel stitch - two of the rows will look like that and then the double crochet row will look different giving it some texture :) hopefully this helps!
Hi! It depends on the size of the 7 year old boy - I have the size guide that I used liked in the description. It is in women’s sizes but if you take a couple of the measurements and measure the boy or compare to his clothes, that should help work out if it will fit 😊

I definitely saw both DK or Worsted, but going with how thick it looked against your finger, my guess is worsted! Just sort of helps people substitute a different brand of yarn if they need to! It's confusing at first, but the more patterns I use, it's definitely one of the first things I check out on a pattern when eyeing the yarn in my stash and it really changes the drape and structure of a crocheted garment. @@StephanieTashi ply can influence the thickness of the yarn but it's really entirely different from the weight. You can have bulky roving yarn (1 ply) and you could have 2 ply fingering weight yarn. The weight is really about the thickness of the yarn (in a wire, this is called gauge). Ply just means how many threads were spun together to make the yarn (sewing thread also has ply, which changes over the centuries). So, ply and weight are two very different things. The more ply a yarn has, the sharper the stitch definition. (Or, chainette, which is different, also has a very sharp, well defined stitch definition.) But more ply doesn't necessarily mean a thicker yarn.
Oh sorry that was confusing! From that point you just do the remaining rows with no more decreases. So every row will have the same number of stitches from there until the end. Does that make more sense? If not, I can write that section out as a written pattern if that would help 😊

You say to "decrease" at the end of the blue AND "decrease" at the start of the yellow AND "decrease" at the end of the orange, BUT where I'm confused, is when you say that you want all the "decreases" to end up on the same side. How is the possible if we're alternating decreases? Thank you

If you do a decrease at the end of the blue and then the start of the yellow, the yellow decrease sits on top of the blue decrease. And then at the other end of the yellow it’s no decrease and the start of the orange is no decrease on top of that. Then at the end of the orange the decrease will sit on the same side as the previous 2 decreases. So it’s two back to back decreases then two back to back non decreases 😊 hopefully that makes more sense but I will write it up as a pattern and that should be easier 🥰

And ngl, I was struggling with the waist ribbing part because I gathered the panels in a wrong way so many times but this may be due to the fact that I preferred to do the mattress stitch in whole work (since I had difficulty to align the lines of the panels with the stitch shown in the video). It took me a week to do and is the most beautiful thing that I ever crocheted!!

Hi! So sorry that it is confusing! I didn’t mean to miss it out but I don’t have footage of sewing it on anymore unfortunately so I can’t make another video - but I do have another vest that has the same type of neckline and waist ribbing. It’s a mauve/light purple vest and the title is crochet cropped knit look button up vest. I explain a bit more how to do it in that video, so hopefully that might help a little bit but I’ll also try to explain:
You’ll need to attach the waist ribbing first. Put a stitch maker into one end of the ribbing and into one side of the front opening and then put another stitch marker into the other end of the ribbing and the other side of the front opening. Then you’ll need to stretch it around the back evenly, putting in a few more stitchmarkers and stitch it up with a darning needle.
For the neckline trim, it’s essentially the same, you’ll need to put a stitch marker into one end of the trim, and the bottom of the waist ribbing at the front opening. The neckline ribbing will be stitched into the waist ribbing. Then you’ll need to put another stitch marker in the other end of the neckline ribbing and attach that to the bottom of the waist line ribbing on the other side of the front opening. Then you need to put a couple more stitch markers around the neckline to stretch it out evenly and sew it up 😊

Hi Tihany! Thanks so much :) and that's not a stupid question at all! I've just updated my description on the video to include a link to the sizing guide I use to work out the sizes. The most important measurement for this vest would probably be your chest and waist (rows 1 and 8 in the measurement table). Once you have those measurements you can check which size in the size guide most closely matches you measurements! Mine are closest to the small so that's the size I made in the video. The other measurement you may want is the measurement from the top of your shoulder to where you want the top to finish - for reference my top is about 45cm or 18". If you want it longer or shorter than that you could add or take a couple of rows from the first section of each panel. Please let me know if any of that doesn't make sense or you have anymore questions :)

Amazingly informative video thank you so much! One question- is there a part in the video showing how the waist and neck trim are attached? I've done the 93 rows for the waist and when I put it against the main body it doesn't fully go around it. I thought watching until the end would make things clearer but I'm even more stumped 😅😂
Hi Katie! So sorry I missed adding that part to the video! But yes my ribbing is also a little shorter than the bottom of my main body so it can synch it in a bit. The ribbing is stretchy so will have a little give and may stretch out a bit when you’re wearing it but if you want it to be totally flat that would work too! You could just add rows as you need until it’s the same width as the main body and it would be fine 😊 I sewed mine up by putting a stitch marker in each end and connecting that to the ends of the main body - then stretching it so it’s even with the body and putting a couple more stitch markers in. Then you can just stitch it up and it’ll be even around, but synching a little bit tighter 😊 whichever way you go would work so totally up to you!! Please let me know if you have any more questions 😊 and thank you! Im so glad you liked the video 🥰

Hi there, thank you for sharing this pattern! It's exactly what I've been searching for. I was wondering if it would change much if I used a weight 3 yarn rather than weight 4. Should I go up a size (from S to M) if I do use weight 3 or should I make the same size as I would with weight 4 yarn (size S)?
Thanks so much! It’s hard to say exactly so I think the best thing would be to do the chain/first row for the small and measure it to compare to the cm measurement. Then if it’s too small you’ll know you’ll need to go up a size! But if it’s close to the small measurement you’ll be all good 😊 if it turns out your yarn is a bit thinner I can let you know the vertical measurements (up the armpit etc.)

No problem at all 😊depending on how cropped you want it to be you can add or take as much length in the section under the armpit as you want! Mine is 14cm up to the arm hole decreases for both panels.
For the front panels, the section with decreases on both sides of the panel is 3.5cm then continuing the decreases only on one side for the neckline for the next 7cm. The last section of the front panels with no decreases at the shoulder is 6cm.
For the back panel the section with decreases on both sides is also 3.5cm and then straight up for the next 13cm.

Hi! No problem 😊 for the both the front and back panels the first portion up to the arm pit is 14cm high. The decrease section for the arm is 3.5cm. Then for the back panel, after the arm decreases until the top of the panel is 13cm.

Thank you so much 🥰 I glad you like it! Yes I think making a smaller chain should work! The front panels of my vest are 17cm / 6 3/4” wide so if you’re doing the same size maybe you could try as many chains as equal to that! The back panel is 39cm / 15 1/3” wide 😊 hopefully those measurements help!
Also the measurement m from the waist to under the armpit before the decreases is 16cm or 6 1/4 inches. Then the measurement going up from the armpit to the top of the shoulder (measuring straight up from that row not around the arm hole) is about 25cm or just under 10 inches 😊

i have a question tho. i’m currently working on making one for me, i’m following pattern A and i’m making my vest just one color (black) so it’s kinda hard for me to count each row as i go lol. so for the front panels, when making the arm straps, how many double crochet stitches should i end with at the top? i ended up with 8 but idk if that’s right and i’m worried the straps will be too short on me. should i add a couple more rows and end with 5 stitches?
Hey! I ended with 8 stitches at the top 😊 once I got down to 8 stitches, I did 7 rows with no decreases to make the strap longer just going straight up. Did you do that part and it’s still too small? You could definitely do a couple more rows with decreases until you get to 5 stitches, you would just end up with a slight thinner strap but it won’t affect the vest in any other way 😊 if you don’t want a thinner strap then I would just add a few more rows with no decrease, just continue doing the 8 stitches for a bit 😊 please let me know if any of that doesn’t make sense!! 🥰🥰🥰

@@rainbow_froggy536 my ribbing was also a little shorter than the base of the top because I wanted it to be pulled a little tighter and I find that backloop stitches stretch out for me between washes, at least with the yarn I used. If you want it to be fully flat though it would be fine to add rows until is equal 😊 and sorry I missed that part in the video! I just stitched it together with a darning needle, making sure the ribbing was evenly stretched around 😊

Although I want to try making one for myself and using the size xs, my concern is i want it to look rlly fitter and based on the commission I got off of this tutorial, I feel like the arm hole would be rlly big for my body. Thanks so much!! And shouldn’t be too hard to make the armhole smaller. I think it depends a little in what way you want to make it smaller but the simplest way I think would be to add a couple of extra stitches to the ribbing around the arm holes to make it thicker which will make the armhole smaller. Or a few less rows for the arm ribbing to make it tighter. If you want the armhole of the body of the vest to be smaller then if you take a couple of rows from the top part of the front and back panels (after the armhole decreases) and add that to the section below the arm hole, that would bring the arm hole higher up to the arm pit. But you’d have to make sure to still do the neckline decreases at the same place. Another option would be to do a couple less decreases for the armhole, that would make it smaller but make the shoulder portion a little bigger. The last thing I can think of is to make the whole vest a bit smaller if you want it to be tighter - either by using a slightly smaller hook or I can work out the stitch count/measurements for an XXS if that would help! Let me know if you like any of those ideas and need more elaboration! I clearly have too many ideas haha 😊 hopefully one will help you though! 🥰🥰🥰

For the front panel chains for XXS is 18 chains and 12 cm
Front panel stitches for XXS will be 16 stitches
Back panel chains is 40 chains and 29 cm
Back panel stitches is 38 stitches
Waist ribbing is 60 rows
Neckline ribbing is 87 rows
and the arm hole will be the same :)
If you want to make the vest shorter as well the easiest place to remove rows would be from the section under the arm hole, or you could try remove rows from higher up to also make the arm hole smaller. That'll also mean you'd need to make the neck ribbing a little shorter too and the arm ribbing if that where you take rows away.

Hi - thank you for this! I have a question about the neck ribbing. I made the vest longer than yours, and I'm wondering how you calculated how many stitches you need for the neck ribbing? Is it two SC ribs per DC in the vest? and then one SC for along the top of the ribbing (where it would match up against the top of the DCs)? I'm sure I can figure it out with trial and error, but I thought I'd ask the expert first!
Hi :) It's hard to be exact because of the stitches across the back of the neck plus the waist ribbing but assuming you also did 10 stitches for your waistband, the ratio of ribbing stitches for the neckline to rows/stitches around the neckline for me was 1.25:1. So if I multiple the number of rows for each panel plus the stitches along the back (34+34+30=98) by 1.25 I get 122.5 which is just shy of how many rows I had (123 sts). Hopefully that makes sense! But if you decide you want to make it through trial and error maybe it would be worth making it in reverse with the button hole section first placing the holes where you want the buttons to be. Then that way you can just keep adding rows until you're happy rather than having to undo the whole button hole section if you want to make it a bit longer/shorter :) please let me know if you need any other info!

Hi! Yes you could use double crochets instead if you prefer - it would just make the vest slightly longer as double crochet rows are slightly taller than lemon peel stitch rows. Depending on how long you wanted it to be, you could probably just remove a couple of rows here and there on each panel but it also wouldn’t make it a lot longer if you just stuck with the same rows 😊 I hope that helps! 🥰

No problem at all! The front panels for the small I made are 17cm/6 3/4” wide and the back panel is 39cm/15 1/3”. Oh no! That’s such a bummer if you have to start over! If it’s almost wide enough you could try making the ribbing around the neck a bit wider? But in the end I know I never regret redoing something if it’s not exactly what I want! Let me now if you need anything else 😊 I hope it works out!
If I use a chunky yarn (that’s all I have) and am usually a size L/XL…should I make a smaller size as it will end up bigger being a thicker yarn?

Oh no! Hopefully these measurements help! The section with decreases on both sides on the panel (the underarm and neckline) should be about a 2.8cm reduction on each side. So the remaining section of the panel will be about 11.4cm after the decreases. Then the next rows with decreases only for the neckline should a reduction in the panel for 5.7cm with the remaining shoulder portion measuring 5.7cm in total left.

Sorry I have just set about it again. When you said 2.8cm is that the depth of the decrease or how much a row is reduced widthways. I am doing the large size so will need to adjust. Many thanks x
the 2.8cm is how much the entire decrease section is reduced by for the underarm portion. So each row would be reduced by about 0.7 cm for the 4 rows. Another option could also be to skip some stitches under the arm hole entirely and just make the arm hole at a right angle, or both skip stitches and then do some decreases. Because you can add trim to the arm hole it will even it out mostly so won’t look too different! 🥰

Hi! Did you stop doing the decreases after the 27th row? After the 27th row there should be anymore decreases for armhole C. But arm hole C does create a bigger arm hole and that eats into the front and back panels so it would have less stitches than the one I made but the ribbing for the arm and the neckline will add a couple of cm on each side 😊

Hi Shannon! that’s right 😊 the bigger arm hole cuts into the top of the shoulder sections a bit and makes it thinner. If you don’t like the size of the shoulder section you could undo a couple of rows and stop the neckline decreases a little earlier (the other side to the arm hole) or you could also make the ribbing for the arm or neck a little wider 😊 the ribbing that I’ve done will add about 3.5cm per ribbing so the shoulder will be around 7cm plus the measurement of the 5 stitches!

Hi! Sorry I forgot to include that! I just used some of the teal yarn and darning needle and pushed the yarn through the button and then the ribbing and tied it at the back. You could also use a thinner needle and thread and sew it on like you would normally sew a button - there are TH-cam tutorial for that too if you are unsure 😊

Hi Theresia :) I think if you used all one colour there would still be a pattern but it wouldn’t be as obvious. If you want to get an idea what it would look like search for lemon peel stitch - two of the rows will look like that and then the double crochet row will look different giving it some texture :) hopefully this helps!

I definitely saw both DK or Worsted, but going with how thick it looked against your finger, my guess is worsted! Just sort of helps people substitute a different brand of yarn if they need to! It's confusing at first, but the more patterns I use, it's definitely one of the first things I check out on a pattern when eyeing the yarn in my stash and it really changes the drape and structure of a crocheted garment. (And the size!)

@@StephanieTashi ply can influence the thickness of the yarn but it's really entirely different from the weight. You can have bulky roving yarn (1 ply) and you could have 2 ply fingering weight yarn. The weight is really about the thickness of the yarn (in a wire, this is called gauge). Ply just means how many threads were spun together to make the yarn (sewing thread also has ply, which changes over the centuries). So, ply and weight are two very different things. The more ply a yarn has, the sharper the stitch definition. (Or, chainette, which is different, also has a very sharp, well defined stitch definition.) But more ply doesn't necessarily mean a thicker yarn.

Oh sorry that was confusing! From that point you just do the remaining rows with no more decreases. So every row will have the same number of stitches from there until the end. Does that make more sense? If not, I can write that section out as a written pattern if that would help 😊

You say to "decrease" at the end of the blue AND "decrease" at the start of the yellow AND "decrease" at the end of the orange, BUT where I'm confused, is when you say that you want all the "decreases" to end up on the same side. How is the possible if we're alternating decreases? Thank you

But yes that is correct! If you do a decrease at the end of the blue and then the start of the yellow, the yellow decrease sits on top of the blue decrease. And then at the other end of the yellow it’s no decrease and the start of the orange is no decrease on top of that. Then at the end of the orange the decrease will sit on the same side as the previous 2 decreases. So it’s two back to back decreases then two back to back non decreases 😊 hopefully that makes more sense but I will write it up as a pattern and that should be easier 🥰

In colour 1 (blue) ch 26
Row 1: dc into 3rd chain from hook (chains used to turn never count as a stitch for this pattern), dc in each remaining chain (24)
Row 2: change to colour 2 (yellow), ch 2 to turn, dc in first stitch, sc in next, alternate until last stitch (24)
Row 3: change to colour 3 (orange), ch 2 to turn, dc into first stitch, sc into next and alternate to end (24) [Note: dc of the colour 3 row should go into sc from previous row and sc should go into dc of previous row]
Row 4: change to blue, ch 2 to turn, dc into each stitch (24)
Rows 5-15: repeat rows 2-4 until row 15 is reached, ending on an orange row (24)
Row 16: change to blue, ch 2 to turn, dc decrease into first 2 sts, dc into next 20 st, dc decrease into last two sts (22)
