  • Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788)
Concerto for harpsichord, strings, and basso continuo in C major, Wq. 20 (H. 423)
    00:00 - [w/o tempo marking]
10:43 - Adagio ma non troppo
    18:55 - Allegro assai
    Harpsichord - Raphael Alpermann
Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin (2001)
"In the Harpsichord Concerto in C major (Wq. 20)...the alternation of solos and tutti proceeds at a regular, calm pace, which gives the soloist ample opportunity for the deployment of his highly virtuosic scalar passages. Before the Finale, with the wayward, rugged lines of its thematic treatment, its unpredictable trills and wide interval leaps, forms an exuberantly effervescent last dance, the delicately shaded muted string tones of the C minor Adagio transport us to the magical spheres of soft, frankly early romantic melancholy. It is almost as if the mood of the rapturous Andante from Mozart's D minor Piano Concerto (K. 466) is already being anticipated." - Roman Hinke

Muy jovial y expresivo. Que énfasis puso el viejo Bach en la educación de sus hijos!

As a happy owner of 6 feet of CPE CD's, this one somehow escaped me. Thanks for uploading! Decades after I was struck by the allegro di molto (last part) of CPE's concerto Wq 22, I'm still in love with CPE's energy.

CPE Bach arrived on the 18th century music scene like an avalanche!

This apparently gentle piece of late-baroque music is in fact a masterpiece of this rediscovered master of "empfindsamkeit". CPE Bach offers us a complex mesh of counterpoint, fugues and variations that are a true and sophisticated delight for both reason and senses. The AKADEMIE FÜR ALTE MUSIK and Raphael Alpermann are outstanding conveyors of this legacy. Thanks, indeed, "scrymgeour34"!

I don't think KulturKampf was talking specifically about this concerto. And CPEB did write some splendid fugues (e.g. for organ in C minor).

CPE Bach developed a style of his own. If you have listened carefully to some of his works, tou can easily recognize him. Here, we have a typical harpsichord concerto. CPE was important in the development od the protoclassical style.

Mozart said, "Bach is the father, we are the children". At the same time, CPE's style is unique and unmistakable, and hovers between the Baroque and the Classical .

@@TheGloryofMusic And in case it wasn't clear to anyone else reading, Mozart was referring to CPE Bach specifically.

      Misa Susaki
      Referring to what exactly ?
There is barely a single note of the music of Mozart that displays any filial resemblance to CPE Bach whatsoever.

@@elaineblackhurst1509 The very language Mozart used was forged partly by CPE, so perhaps he was referring to that.

There is a great Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach concert in Las Vegas on September 3, 2014, with one of the most talented pianists to ever play his works. German pianist Ana-Marija Markovina in Las Vegas www.germanicvm.com/wednesday.html

I resent being force to watch a tacky ad between movts with no opportunity to skip it. NO, Icannot order Adblock. It's not my computer. Fuck commercial advertising.

Just be thankful the ad didn't come in the middle of a movement. (It has been known). I don't believe for a moment that you can't install a decent ad blocker but another way to stop ads is to use Opera as your browser. It comes with a very good built in ad blocker and a VPN.
