As a manga reader, this is one episode I've been waiting to see animated for a long time now. The anime did not disappoint. Ichikawa learning to love himself and accepting that Yamada likes him is just **Chef's Kiss** perfection

Forreal. The speech is a big moment for Ichikawa in the story, and the anime adapted it PERFECTLY.

Ichikawa is your typical self-aware child prodigy who gets a reality check that not everything's gonna go smoothly, which resulted in him losing all confidence and doing a 180 into self-loathing and shutting others away as a defense mechanism.
Him finally learning to love himself again is so cathartic.
The best part is it just gets better from here, both Ichikawa's character development and the story.
The writer knows their shit.
Senpai Pickup Artist was so real for stopping Ichikawa from leaving and telling him "Slow down now, you were finally alone!" He wanted to hand the full victory (hard to call it that since there was no battle in the first place) to Ichikawa, but they were way too flustered inside the nurse's office to talk in the first place.
Pick-up Senpai was like "Aw shit, my ruse worked a little TOO well"
Them having Ichikawa accept that Yamada likes him only after he learned to love himself again! 😭
Some series should be like mandatory for people to watch!

Self-love at its finest.
Ichikawa was confident; he became too overconfident. Then, he "fell from grace" by not making it to the private school like his old friends did. I understand why he would lose all his confidence, but it is really rewarding and nice to see him build his confidence back up again, learning to love himself before he fully commits to loving Yamada. I'm glad to see more people enjoy and love this series as much as I do! I really am grateful for your reactions!

19:31 if anyone is curious, this is a reference to Kitaro from Gegege no Kitaro. Kitaro is a very famous manga/anime character in Japan who also famously covers half of his face much like Ichikawa and attacks with his hair.
The rehearsal ceremony was so perfectly executed in how AWKWARD reading a speech for someone like Ichikawa would be. 😬

Best episode yet! Everything about this anime - the characters, the writing, their progression, the music, the relatability, the voice acting and animation is peak! I rewatch this series so much because it’s truly the best. I really love their relationship. Your reactions are on point - they really line up with mine! Also fun fact about this episode - the hair stylist that cut ichikawa’s hair was voiced by the ED singer of both seasons - Kohana Lam!

Everytime Yamada speaks like 'my hands are full' or 'it's ok to misunderstand' and so much other lines, I swear she would get cashappps notifications from me everytime she does that T^T
DOUBLE WHAMMY. You thought it would have been the speech alone that would bring tears, but no! Yamada opening up in that moment brings it out as well. Very rarely we get her thoughts, the same way he thinks of her and likes her, is replicated in her exactly towards him. Really great that the same day Kyo starts to fully love himself, he can accept that he’s loved by others. Namely, Anna.

Can't pinpoint the exact reason or words, but, I was totally washed over with celebration and appreciation of this tiny dude's growing love for the Life he found out he has, and seeing him willing to smack fear down, and proceed in a way he's proud to show her....OH. That’s such a cool term, Japan has clever names and terms for everything
Japanese word has some interesting term. One of a teem I really love is "TA SO GARE ", It is a words expressing time of twilight and very old Japanese (about 1000 years ago) but we still use this word today.
The direct translation of this word into English is "Who is he?".
原作だと「手がふさがって受け取れないんです」なんですが、アニメだと「手が塞がって受け取”ら”ないんです。」って声優さんは言っている気がしますよね。言葉のニュアンスが違って原作と違った感じになってますが、これはこれで山田が能動的に先輩の気持ちを拒否している感じが出てて良いですよね。
We can see how important Ichikawa's development is, and how he understood to love himself and how important self-love is. in a nutshell CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

I'll watch an episode when it comes out, and sometimes I cry. Then I'll rewatch it a little while later and usually don't cry. Then I watch it along with faroh and I ALWAYS CRY.

I see the entire speech sequence as an open letter to everyone watching, to remember loving yourself, and it made me ugly crying. I'm a person with mediocre self esteem, I tend to not think too highly about myself and am also kinda craven about certain situations... I could not give a public speech for example. The reminder that the first person to believe, care and love you is YOURSELF before any supporter took me by surprise and hit me hard as a rock, because I thought they would choose to make Anna the reason Kyoutaro can fight, but it's not like that. And I think I understand and identify with a lot of Kyoutaro's behaviour. Then, when I thought I've cried enough they just hit like a truck again with Anna's "My hands are full.." line... I think this is a serious candidate for being the best single episode I've ever seen in a romcom 😢

Haruya was portrayed as a bad guy that any romance anime needs so the story can go forward but im not saying i liked him but i dont hate him for some reason maybe bcus i can relate to him in some way shape of form ye he was an absolute scum but this episode showed that he knew all along only reason he confessed is to let it of his chest and move on he said that lie to her about the line contact bcus he wanted to see if she likes him fr fr and he even said emotional sympathy can lead to love thats why he didnt say that he got injured and thats why he dont play soccre cus the that would make yamada pity him and he didnt wanted that yall just misunderstood the a guy a bit or maybe i am who knows. Hi, Faroh it's actually my first time seeing your reaction but just a bit of a fun fact here, the Seiyuu (Voice Actor) for Yamada Anna the lovely Yōmiya Hina is the Lead Vocalist for the real-life all-female rock band called MyGO!!!!! in the BanG Dream! Franchise where she voiced Takamatsu Tomori. I know this might be considered old news by this point but about a month ago 僕の心のヤバイやつ (The Dangers in My Heart) and BanG Dream! I really like this anime, every week there is always a peak episode, and I almost cry in every episode, but for some reason when I see your reactions that are so emotional and cry with emotion in every episode it makes me laugh a little and mutter to myself. . . Quite happy that you caught one thing that most ppl wont, about Nanjou's feelings. Yeah he was a pushy bastard but he wasnt a bad person at its core in my opinion, and yeah he knew he never had a chance, it was just something he needed to do to move and and leave this behind. That last look he gave to Ichikawa was so good too.... he even pointed that he did everything to leave those 2 alone, but I guess they just couldnt handle it lol.

I absolutely LOVED this episode. As much as I feel I want Yamada, our girl baby, to be the protag - Ichikawa took the biggest W here. Omg I was actually in tears.
Seriously though, pick up senpai's plan worked but to TOO MUCH effect lol. I want to know how they are going to interact now. Yamada was freaking amazingly adorable with her confession.

I was on stream where some stupid kiddos said there is better romance anime. But dude this episode and the manga is so good this anime is sooo well done. It follows all the manga since beginning and i was waiting for this scene. From now ln they will get more closer. And I Really hope this second season ends on the school trip or afher that.
