    I've played snooker since I was 18.. I recently found somewhere to practice on my own for a couple of hours a day. I made my first 147 on the line up 3 days before the lockdown.. I'm 53 now.
    So anyone out there who thinks they are too old well... you probably aren't .
    I didn't video myself but the process was almost identical to yours.
    I'd say obsess over technique at home on the ironing board or whatever else you can find but obsess about staying on the shot line when you actually play.
    I found thinking about technique changes when you play is almost impossible . Love your videos keep em coming mate.

    Steve, I hope this is of interest. We came to New Zealand 20 years ago where I continued to play my football, I retired at 60 having represented NZ at Masters football....I joined a local snooker club 3 years ago we have around 50 members. I am a C player on 17 handicap. I have played snooker occasionally all my life but it’s only now that I have more time I play 2-3 times a week....Last week I reached the final of our club championship and my opponent was a guy in his 40s. He has had several century breaks and has been NZ pool champion....I beat him 2-1 on the black in the decider.
    The only reason I won is because of your coaching videos Steve, you are the best coach on the internet by far...I have reached my snooker peak at 67 😂.....Thank you Steve.

    The most important thing as he shows in the beginning is to correct your technique before you do any sort of practice, if the technique is wrong you can practice for thousands of hours but not improve one bit , once you learn to position your body and cue correctly only then you will get better and better with practice

    I think it’s important to point out here that the beginning of being a good snooker player is having the opportunity to be one. In my area there are exactly 3 public snooker tables within a radius of 250 kilometres. I was lucky enough to have 3 pool tables free to use in the apartment building I lived at this past year which helped my potting a lot, even on a snooker table. But most people in my area simply don’t have the money or the opportunity to become a good snooker player even if they have the drive and commitment. I feel that it’s important for a lot of players to remember to acknowledge that they were lucky enough to have the opportunity presented to them to even play this great game in the first place.

    Watching this video shows that anyone has the potential to get to where they want to be in snooker with the right mindset and dedication, i started playing 2 years ago and couldn't make a 20 break. i kept trying and practicing as much as i could and there was little improvement, ever since i started watching your videos, i've really learnt a lot about what makes a good cueing action, and now my highest break is 75 in a match and 137 in a lineup, missing the last black unfortunately. I'd like to think that one day i could become a professional with the right co-operation, being the age of 15 makes it a bit tight of time i have left to do that. But what i can say for sure is that your videos have made me a far better snooker player that i could've ever hoped to be. Thank you Steve!

    I always thought, after 25 years of playing, I was at a standard (a poor one, at that) and that's where my natural ability was at. However after discovering your videos, I'm now playing some of the best snooker, I've ever played and can hold my own in the local league. Still a LONG way to go, but I now believe I can get better and your video highlights that it's not all natural ability. A lot of it is technique, mindset and practice. Many thanks.

    Great video! When you said your alignment needed work, what did u align exactly and how did you know what to align? My dominant eye isn't directly over the cue but it feels natural and I can pot well.

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My head cue and elbow are not all on the line of the shot. You ideally want the cue, head and elbow all on the white line that I showed on screen.

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't change which eye you're using to sight the shot unless you talk to somebody properly and understand exactly what's important. Most of the time, the eyes will be in the correct position over the cue, so don't mess with that.

    • @hinchauhan

    @Barton Snooker, Really motivating video. I am 27 myself and on the same situation as you were in 2011. I am working on improving my game more than just casual playing. I have a question for you, if you could answer. In the ending shot of the video, I noticed, your cue moves away from the chin (and it is quite a lot of distance) when you do your final forward stroke. Is it good practice to do it? Could you explain. I always thought the chin and cue position should always remain the same before and after the shot. Thanks.

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. It's just because my elbow relaxes very slightly as I strike the cue-ball and deliver through to my chest. Ronnie, Shaun Murphy, Mark Selby all do exactly the same thing.
      Don't over think things like that. Just let the hand come through to the chest and keep as still as possible.

    I used to stand like you now but am right eyed so switched to a square stance and was immediately better but found my balance was better with one foot slightly forward. However ,this brings my cue off line and slightly to the right,just like you seem to stand in the video when aiming at the mirror at home @02:18. So now back to square stance. I am confused. Please help.

    Hi Steve, what were the improvements that you made to your stance that them made your cue action so much better?

    Good video. Most people only play snooker for fun in Taiwan. Some poeple play more than 10years. Their highest break is less than 30 points. Practice is a very tough thing, but it is worthy.

    Hi , I have been following up you video. I have 2 question. aliment is more important or aiming correctly ? my problem is i m not consistent in my potting. question 2 , R u sure pro aim at standing. I watch them on tv, they walk over ben N play , I don see them standing up n aim then play. Thanks

    I have just re- taken up snooker after not playing for about 25-30 years. It was only because of my daughter’s boyfriend wanting to play. I had forgotten just what a good game it is. I love watching your videos and hopefully they will help me whoop his butt next time we get to play. 😂😂👍👍

    You talk about using a video camera to examine techniques. What angles did you use? And what were you looking for?
    I have tried this. But apart from distance from the tip of the cue, to my bridge hand looking too long and my follow through looking too short. Not sure what else to look for?
    Maybe you could do a video about it, if you're bored.... ☺

      I look for many things. So many things to consider when looking at a players technique.
      I actually provide video analysis for players all the time that send me footage. It's a great way of giving people lots of new things to work on.

    I'd just like to know how much you had to practice Steve before you noted a significant change in your game ? A certain amount of hours per week ? Any info would be appreciated

    • @BartonSnooker
      @BartonSnooker  ปีที่แล้ว

      I played 2 to 3 times per week. This amounted to about 6-8 hours each week in total.
