I want to hear you react to Trust Fall next man, it's really distinct from everything else you've covered so far, has a beautiful denouement. Alternatively you could run through all 3 parts of The Mara Effect. Predicted pause count, 3,408. As always, legend
There’s an amazing one take vocal performance for this song also. You can really see how she manipulated the shape of her mouth to create the sounds she does. It’s amazing.
Chase, you airguitar + airdrumming extraordinaire and certified PogChamp, you made my Sunday morning a damn good one! As mentioned in the livechat, you should do Electric Cross next. Killer track.
@@ChaseCarneson you must have good taste. Ps - the Oh Sleeper reaction caught me by surprise. I hadn't heard of them in about 6 years. Did you ever hear of the band Wovenwar? The clean singer/guitarist of Oh Sleeper joined with the As I Lay Dying guys for that.
Great insightful reaction, Chase! You always have a way of pointing out technical aspects of the musicianship and vocal performances like no other, my friend! I saw my friend live in Prague back in March, right as the pandemic hit, and they are absolutely amazing people, friends, and musicians!!
I said it already and Ima say it again: PLEASE react to the Mara Effect live session by these guys. It's 3 parts all back to back and such a journey. Highly recommend it!
HEY HEY HEY! This was the song, that got me into SB. Instantly loved the groove, her vocals and the eeriness of it all. gotta do Trust Fall or Electric Cross next.
Thank you so much for this reaction video, Chase. I love your reaction videos and analysis. You´re doing great. I heard this band for the first time. Another great progressive band. Great musicians and great singer. Keep up the great work, Chase :-).
I remember hearing that the actual reason the band is dead for half the video is because they received a noise complaint half way into filming, so shot the remaining scenes with the band dead. Not sure if that's accurate, but I do recall hearing that somewhere.
Great reaction. I didn’t know about that tweak on the very top of the neck of the guitar till you pointed it out. 👍😊 Next spiritbox you should, you should check out the Mara effect live at silverlake studies. Lots of good guitar work and it really showcases everyone in the band especially Courtney’s range.
When she dances it reminds me of the bottom dancefloor at Zeplins (South African Metal club). The song is great and her voice is brutal. Good songs to add to the playlist. Great commentary on the video too.
Great reaction! And 👍 for the shirt! Just heard a short clip of Holy Roller ft. Ryo of Crystal Lake for their limited edition vinyl now up for pre-order! Saw lots mentioned The Mara Effect pt. I,II and III, but if you're not ready, you may go for Electric Cross or Bleach Bath.
There is a live studio vocal performance of this song on their channel... It's brilliant, of course. They recently posted a one-take for Holy Roller as well that might actually melt your face off 😁
I saw the one take and it was awesome. What a talent. Honestly was magical. Would like to hear your thoughts on it. Not on the comments here more but twitter or discord is easier
It was my first Spiritbox song but Holly Roler just blew me away, when I heard it the first time, meaning Belcara goes to second place. Holy Roler is just so short, sweet and brutal while going to all the right places for me.
Mara Effect is great, especially the video for Part 1. Also, they have a studio run through of all three part. Plenty of interesting parts for you to break down.Excellent musicianship. I am looking forward to that reaction, perhaps a double reaction!
Dude, please do Periphery already! I know you have it in your list and you told me already that you're gonna do it, but the longer you wait, the more lifetime will be wasted not listening to them. Judging by your previous reactions, you will love them. Please trust me, you will enjoy them, it's right up your alley. You're testing my patience, but still much love to ya
The horror siren background noise is like a calling card of theirs. They used it a lot in their first EP and a few of the songs from the Singles Collection. Really amplifies to the horror element.
i read somewhere, and this is all hearsay... that there was a noise complaint while filming the video, and having the band members lay dead was a creative way to continue filming
Ryan Rizzo Was just gonna say something similar to this. I seem to remember it was a noise complaint from the drumming so they recorded half with the instruments and then had to get creative to finish recording the video without the instruments 😂
Ya we might be Streisand-effecting here, but I will say me three on hearing about the noise complaint. You can see that those shots are in some loft space, as opposed to the dilapidated house from the external shots.
also so glad to see more spiritbox and tesseract love. theyre in my top 5 right now for sure. spiritbox, tesseract, novelists, leprous and haken are my top 5 right now
I heard this song for the first time just yesterday. I thought it was really good, but couldn't really tell you anything beyond that. Watching your reaction then, and hearing your insights into _why_ it's such a good song, is really cool. Kind of makes me wish I had your level of musical knowledge. Have you listened to the band _Infected Rain_ yet? I'd love to see you react to some of their songs, maybe _Orphan Soul_ or _Black Gold._
"Mara effect" by Spiritbox from Studio is a long video track. But this is one of the best Live group performances I have ever seen. Could you comment on this video and music in 3 episodes if 1 part is too long material?
The sound is from a spiritbox, the device paranormal investigators use to try to communicate with spirits. They use this sound (which makes their songs have that eerie/horror vibe) in all of their songs (I think), hence the band name Spiritbox. It is just cranked way up in the mix in this song.
You're hearing that clean guitar in the backing track. Mike programs a TON of stuff that plays in their backing track. What's great about it is when they play live they don't need a second guitarist to sound completely full. He just puts it in the backing track. Lots of ambient sounds.
that sound you were asking about is a type of clean guitar tone that tesseract and monumetns often use coined "milton cleans" as both guitarists are from milton keynes UK
You need to see Courtney LePlante before Spiritbox. She was the vocalist for Iwrestledabearonce. Yes , that is the name of the band. " I wrestled a bear once " , all in one word. React to Iwrestledabearonce - Boat Paddle. Her vocals are epic and the video is hilarious. Courtney joined that band in 2012.
I love Spiritbox even tho i'm not a fan of metalcore. But they have that technicality and ambience to their songs that make them stand out and unique. not to mention i came over from IWABO. where Spritbox is basically a horror sounding band for metalcore they remind me of my favorite band Humanity's Last Breath which is another unique sounding, technical, band that has horror sounding ambience in the deathcore/djent genre. so if you're a fan of spiritbox i'd suggest giving Humanity's Last Breath a try if you don't mind opening up a black hole in your room.
Happy Birthday Chase! I hope you had a fun time (as much as you can in this shit pandemic, we're in). I really like how you react; you point out things I didn't hear. I'm listening on speakers and not a headset so I didn't notice the droning sound or the honk until you played it back. I also didn't notice about the guitar players strings. I wonder if the person who makes these videos is trying (hopefully) to work out some homicidal feelings he/she has? They are a little twisted, especially Blessid Be. I love it though! There is a video by Faith No More the song is called "Cone of Shame" and the ending is pretty twisted, and I love it. I'd love to see her and Tatiana sing a song together! Please make that happen...someone! Courtney if you happen to come across this please make it happen! :D Take care, be safe and keep rockin'!
