  • This film was taken by 2Lt J B Neervoort, Tracker Platoon Commander, Sixth Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment during the Vietnam War in 1969/70. The camera was a cheap Super8 movie camera, minus the pistol grip so it could fit into a basic webbing pouch. A cheap cassette tape recorder was in my pack, which was able to be operated via the microphone taped to my pack strap.

As an Infantry Veteran of two tours of Vietnam (3 RAR), I can say without any exaggeration that without the support of the Armoured Corps (APCs & Centurion tanks), our job would have been a bloody lot harder - if not impossible - to do. Dennis Moore.

some great film, i have been helping the last few years with a carrier here in New Zealand painted as a tribute to ARN134150 - 30B "Liberator Jnr" 3Troop B Sqn 3 CAV RAAC 69-70 commanded by Kiwi 2nd Lt Julian "Snow" Ballance RNZAC who was 2IC to Ray De Vere MC. have a great collection of his time over there care of his son. have to keep the history alive. we had one of Julian's drivers come over to NZ last year for Anzac Day Rob "Squiffy" Asquith and gave him his first drive since August 69 then it was a pleasure to drive him in the parade with Rob as guest of honour in the turret. there's a vid of the carrier on my channel from the year we unveiled the paint scheme to the family

Hi John, I have a scale modeling channel and am about to start a video for publishing on TH-cam that records me building and weathering a Vietnam era Australian M113A1. I am going to use your video to guide me on weathering the model and was wondering if I could have your permission to use around 10 to 15 seconds of this video as part of my showing what I was aiming to do with the weathering of the vehicle. I will give credit to you for the clip and also link back to this video. It would be very much appreciated if you can help out. Your footage of the APC's is some of the best I've seen.
BTW my dad (Mick Dacey) was in the Australian Army during the Vietnam era and our family was in Puckapunyal during a lot of the time our fellas were in Vietnam. I have strong memories of that time and of the vehicles you showed, many of which I would see as a kid from time to time. I especially remember the Centurion tanks whose radios when on the range would interfere with channel 0 on the telly. Very annoying when I got home from school and wanted to watch Lost in Space! I also remember how that bloody war impacted on the fellas coming back and on the kids when they were away. I didn't understand all of it then or some of what I saw, but I know some of it was odd behaviour even to a kid and talked about it years later with my parents who could explain it to me as a young adult.
Thanks for putting these movies up. Its an important part of our history and we need to remember it.
    Dan
