    I’ve ordered the exact car you’re driving with all packages, full list price in NSW was $101k. Mine is also (matte) white exterior and red nappa interior. It arrives at the dealer on Monday, sold my VW Arteon yesterday, can’t wait to get the GV70

    One point to keep in kind about the suspension: *only* the V6 gets adaptive dampers. They aren’t even optional on the four cylinder versions, even if you select 21-inch wheels. We haven’t tested the 21s and fixed dampers yet, and will report back when we do - but we did think the 21s and adaptive dampers on the V6 delivered a more even, settled ride quality than the base 19s and fixed dampers. -Tom

      I test drove a 2.5T AWD the other day and signed up to buy a 2022 model right away. The interior quality is incomparable to German rivals (to my eyes at least) in the same segment.

    • @baskaboo
      @baskaboo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom - so the rear suspension adaptive dampers can smoothen the ride in comfort mode which mostly used right ?

    • @basd8045
      @basd8045 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could you (on 3.5 or otherwise) get 19inch wheels but still have adaptive dampers? The smoothest cruising drive being the objective.

    The 5 year warranty and 5 year free servicing, actually makes the cheaper price compared to rivals even more impressive. I have heard so many horror stories of BMW, Mercedes and sometimes Audi having huge repaire bills very soon after the warranty expires. That makes those brands a no go for me - I really don't like the attitude of replacing a car every 3 years... they should not be disposable goods

    • @Zero8880
      @Zero8880 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah, in 2007 I bought a brand new BMW 650i coupe. Even during the 5 year warranty, the thing had quite a few issues. But as soon as the warranty ended, I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. It became such a money pit. One night I lifted the hood to see it sparking. The next day I traded it in and luckily it was running when the dealer took it for the test drive. Right after the paper work was signed, one the salesman went to drive it to the back lot and the battery was dead. I had the battery replaced 6 months earlier, and a BMW battery for a 6 series ran about $500 at the time. The battery sat in the trunk, so I can only guess what was sparking under the hood. I'm no mechanic, but I can only imagine the repair cost for that nightmare would have been, as parts for the 6 series were much more expensive. I'm hoping my new GV70 will be a more reliable vehicle. This is my first dive into the Korean market, and as far as I can tell, South Korea is catching up to Japan, if not surpassing them, in many fields of technology. I just wish there was a designated Genesis dealer near to my house. They just built a brand new beautiful Hyundai dealership 2 minutes away from me, but I guess according to my salesman, a Hyundai dealership has to have been in business for at least so many years before they can add on a Genesis branch. Weird that they don't just make Genesis stand alones like the Japanese car makers do.

    Great review, so much detail. I think the Genesis GV70 will succeed where Infinity has failed. I'd love to see you compare 2.5T with Lux and Sports package v 3.5T with lux package. Is the 3.5t worth the extra 9k (fully loaded) considering the number of speed traps (revenue generators) in Australia? For general driving most of the time, would a 2.5T driver miss the adaptive dampers? the fuel consumption seems minimal for urban/city driving.. As for the interior sound, the 3.5T wins - clearly! One last thing - how do you think residual values (resale) or Guaranteed Future Value (GVF) will stack up against the European offerings? Good have found your reviews - Thanks

On a different tack, when are you likely to review a convertible. As a SAAB convertible owner for nearly 20 years, I would love to get back into one - but which one? Audi, Ford, Mazda, Mini? Maybe a price point comparison is a possibility. Lloyd

    Great Review as always Tom.
    It's good to see someone finally talking about the trend of lower mounted indicators (front or back). It makes it harder to see them esp around a roundabout , even with a small hired trailer, and in traffic. They must be in the straight line of sight as they are in most cars, but some cars, just for the design sake are over complicating things and that can be a safety issue.

    with the tan/burgundy interior.Also,having seen images online,I prefer the rectangular
    exhaust tips over the sports pack round tips as it IMHO removes some of the
    ugly fake black plastic both around the exhaust tips as well as under the twin
    headlights at the front.Overall,a great package.Genesis just needs to overcome

    A close friend of mine just took delivery of a 2.5L Sport pack GV70 - I am very impressed with the quality of the vehicle. The engine is a little gutless for my liking however the ride, the fit and finish, and quality of the materials feels a price bracket above. I was particularly impressed with the amount of real steel used in the cabin on the switches - none of this fake plastic painted rubbish. My only dislike is the soft grain-less leather on the arm rests, it felt a bit slippery going around corners, but that is a personal preference more than anything. I see the 2.2d mentions a tyre repair kit; can you at least buy a 'space saver' spare wheel? I would not buy any car with a tyre repair kit. Is there physical space for a 'space saver' in the boot of the 2.2d?

    Appears to be more competitively priced than some of their models but Genesis still have a long way to go to convince Australians to buy this against the traditional choices. Sales of G70 have been dismal (only 1 G70 sold in July) and unless additional sales points are opened up quickly, this will struggle in the marketplace.

      True. Sadly, that segment is dying off in favour of midsize SUVs. To be fair, they sold 48 GV70s and 31 GV80s. The reasonable GV80 result is particularly interesting as the car has been in market for almost 9 months.

      Is it worth 75k d/a for the base model ? YES
      But if they want to capture market share and properly establish themselves I’d say they’d have to be supremely competitive and offer cut throat pricing to sway people from mainstream brands. Going off the base Lexus NX (a direct competitor) with 2wd and 2.0t the d/a of 65k is 10k lower than this.
      Whilst I would really love for Genesis to thrive in Oz if it were my money, I’d pocket the 10k (or upgrade to premium hybrid) and buy the Lexus.
      This is just my 2c, the 3.5t can be priced the way it is given its trying to compete with sq5/x3m40i/glc35 amg but I think the rest of the range should be 10k cheaper, (esp the diesel given its existence as a mainstream Hyundai product) before factoring in packages.
