Love a little bit of Aussie Craw. They've been rocking since the 70sl. James Reyne (said Rain) has a great voice, even if we couldn't catch the lyrics. This song talks about the school children raising money for the poor while a woman married a wealthy man, is dressing in all the fashion labels, but has a lonely life. Here are the lyrics for you. Every day I see you wearing things that have never been worn before While the children at the government schools send money for the poor And all you buy you bargain for with your little man So that from your silks down to your paramour, your tres, tres paragon So it's a back beach in the summer The chalet for the snow You poor Hoochie Gucci Fiorucci Mama You got really no place to go Antiques flown in from Venice fill your house upon the hill While your money sold the soul of rock and roll for some cheap disco thrill I've seen your peers pouting over beers, the loneliness it showed Mistaking tacky sex for sensuality, they bought in Toorak Road So it's a back beach in the summer The chalet for the snow You poor Hoochie Gucci Fiorucci Mama You got really no place to go Inside her empty castle, her lonely heart will dwell The life that she's been losing's like some stony bagatelle The loving that you never found, you don't know the reason why Oh, Hoochie Gucci Fiorucci Mama, don't you cry
This is my favourite track of all theirs, I'm off to see James Reyne at the pub in November touring all the Crawl File songs, which I'm sure will include this one. The title track from this album 'Boys light up' is a great track and have a listen to 'Errol' about Australia's earliest movie star export.
This was my favourite off this album, and not just because you can actually understand most of the words. It's such a damning indictment of the rich and vacuous. The line about Toorak Rd refers to the ritzy, rich people shopping area in a very bougie area. The piano is so pure and beautiful, and it's a standout on an album driven by guitar. I love this whole album.. 🌞
Fiorucci is a fashion brand, if you lived in Melbourne all the places mentioned would mean something to you. Ie back beach is where all the well heeled had their holiday homes “darling”
Great song off a great album. James Reyne was renowned for unhearable lyrics. Have a listen to Things Don't Seem. Good song but the main lyric, which is repeated over and over, is utterly impossible to decipher.
Hi Greg, It's an interesting song as it's about some rich woman living the high life but feeling unfulfilled. Boohoo! There's quite a few interesting singles lifted from this album. ''Boys Light Up'' is my least favourite and always had been. I've never been impressed with the lyrics. Good to see you continuing this journey in the Oz rock vault.
@@deepcutsreactions7774 lol@Greg.. Thank you. My real name is Hayley. My sister, Live It Up, has posted on your channel on a few occasions. Between 1975 to 1983 I was a regular Countdown studio audience attendee. I was part of a national league of kids called Countdown kids. We were instrumental in getting songs played on the radio and entering the charts. It was a consuming obsession.
@@I_was_a_Countdown_Kid-75-83 Well, thank you very much for watching my channel. It's kind of an honor for you and your sis to enjoy what I'm doing on this dinky little thing I'm doing.
My brother and i are big fans of the song but i thought you might like to hear what James Reyne thinks of the song. From an article in 2013, "I think it's a horrible, horrible song. And people often call out for it, so I have to say, ''I'll never play it''. But I'll probably play it at these Basement shows because you sort of have to, just to show what a piece of cloying rubbish it really is."

Guns n roses were on the same label as these guys and stole the riff for sweet child of mine from their song "unpublished critics"
