- The New York Central, and Pennsylvania Railroad were two major movers of heavy freight along the northeastern parts of the United States during the '40's, '50's, and even after they merged on February 1, 1968.
The Pennsylvania Railroad, the nominal survivor of the merger, changed its name to Pennsylvania New York Central Transportation Company, and soon began using "Penn Central" as a trade name.
Here's a look at the two rivals moving colorful freight trains well before the merge, and each line using the best motive power available to them at the time to accomplish the task.
Our K-Line NYC J1e Hudson is providing 'Early Bird' freight service as it heads-up a long mixed-freight consist, while the PRR is pulling its 'Express Freight' with the mighty S2 Turbine, as made by Lionel.
