Try chew toys or rawhide bones, they might hurt your teeth but hey you’ll have a different issue to worry about

I've had dogs most of my life and I can generally handle every tip but that very last one. Coming home to my pets is the best part of my day! I actually really love getting jumped all over and yipped at. Makes me feel welcomed home.
Luckily, I've never had any issues with separation anxiety that persisted past puppy hood, which was easily solved by exercise and crate training. In adolescence/adulthood, they've always been relaxed, so I toss the crate back into storage.
Hi, during the puppyhood stage with your dogs. After exercising them and putting them in the crate, did you ignore them when/if they cried or barked? My 6 month old sometimes cries and barks when left on his own, other times he is fine. I'm just not sure if I should let him cry it out and learn to accept that crying wont get him what he wants. Some trainers seem to recommend this, while others such as Julie Naismith seem to say that even barking on its own could be a sign of separation anxiety and the dog should not be left on it's own again until you slowly desensitise him. That seems to be the advice on her Facebook group but I'm very aware that she has a book to sell that is heavily promoted on that group so it may be in her interests to label any barking or crying as separation anxiety.

If, and certainly not everyone is able to, you can bring a dog, cat, or other pet with intelligence enough to form a relationship into your home,(as opposed to a fish) it can be powerfully helpful with many sub-types and severity levels of depression/affective disorders. I have benefited greatly from having my GSD, Hendrix, in this way. It can be much stronger motivation to get moving, focuses attention outward, assuages loneliness, provides a source and object of unconditional love, a devoted listener, reason to exercise, and spend more time on grass! I'm sure we could keep adding to the list, those are what sprung to mind quickly though. I hope you are able to minimize or aviod future episodes, I know how low it can get.

Look up spitting in a dogs mouth to help with anxiety etc it sounds odd but it works especially with anxiety
@Glosi dove it dates back to native Indian times I’m by no means telling you how to train your dog I’m not a trainer but it’s worked for me 🙂
My 10 week old puppy loses his mind when I come back (crated for an hour max). He's calm, but once he's free he acts like I've been gone a year, crying, licking me, wanting attention. I've always given in. Trying to reassure him he's ok. I'll have to try the cold method. I already do it when I leave.

Spot on timing with the topic as we are approaching exactly this phase. How would you recommend building up the time the puppy spends alone at home?
I’m not him, but I think I know the right answer. Basically at first after the shoes and key process, just open the door and close back up remove shoes again etc. Then increase it by going out the door, shutting it and coming right back in. Then just be a minute, five minutes, 20, 30 and so on, so the puppy gets used to it :)

Hi, first of all, love your content, I've been binge watching every channel/videos I could find from you for the past 2 weeks (still a lot of content to go through i think). If most of the time I understand your explaination on the behavior, what to do and what not, on the training part, correcting part etc, this time I have a hard time with what you said last. I'd be sad if my dog wasn't overly excited to see me when I come back home (I don't have a dog yet). Is it bad for them to be excited for this reason ?
I think it’s about getting OVERLY excited. Your dog should have more of a contained excitement because being overly excited can make them forget their manners. They may jump up on people when they are greeting you or others, they may bark or even play nip, or some puppies actually piddle when they are over excited. He isn’t saying they can’t get excited but reinforcing calm or contained excitement will help them retain their manners. Hope I explained that well enough.

Even though I quite like jumping and stuff it would be bad for my (hopefully soon to be) dog to do that on other people and I understand the importance of consistency, it would be confusing as hell for the dog, so okay, keep manners going at all time, I get it ;)

hello! I purchased your crate training course and it worked great for my older rescue who had a bad relationship w his crate. recently he has not only regressed but gotten worse and is destroying his crate when im away (but will lay in it of his own volition when im home). besides going through the training again, do you have any additional recommendations how to overcome this? thanks!

My 8 month old puppy Hudson (chihuahua/spaniel mix) is dealing with isolation distress. He gets plenty of exercise and 2 long walks a day. Hudson is fine to be in his crate, wait patiently, or play with his toys in another part of the home while we’re in the another room.
Initially thought he had separation anxiety, but as we reinforced crate training and rewarding for being quiet when left the room, we discovered his issue is only when we leave home.
We approach leaving our house the same way we approached crate training and keeping him in other rooms (we call them “In and Outs”). Started with short periods of time, rewards when he was calm, extended to longer periods of time the more comfortable he got. When doing In and Out‘s, we can build up his time to hours in his crate or 20 minutes waiting outside the house (it’s a cold winter in Canada, can’t stay out there long).
The problem comes when we leave the house and Hudson realizes this no longer is a training exercise, he howls excessively until our return. He refuses to relax in his crate or take a nap. He once howled for 3 hours straight when we needed to go out. How am I suppose to reward a calm puppy for my return if he’s never calm and doesn’t stop howling? We need to eventually re-enter our home, but because he’s howling that means Hudson wins.
We can’t do “In and Out” build ups everytime we need to go out to the gym, dinner, grocery shopping, etc.

Do a gentle correction when he howls when you leave. So he knows its not allowed behavior. Make a sound to get his attention on you, and poke him in the side.

Hey will, would you advise leaving them with toys or something to chew on incase of boredom or does this defeat the purpose of having them settle down in there crate/play pen
My dog separation anxiety is really bad.. 😢 but I think it gets worst once I get home.. he jumps non stop, panting, wiggles and almost pee. He is 1 yr old but I just adopted him from a older lady 😢😢
Where do I begin on crate training my adult dog that I adopted after he was abused? I have tried to get him to willingly go into a crate, but he won't go near one, and if I try to go towards him to pick him up to put him in it he pees in fear. I have tried putting treats and toys and bedding in one, but he is terrified of cages, or even walking through doors that aren't wide open. I have tried to speak to a trainer in my area, but they will not train him because they can't get near him. Do you have any tips?
When I work very early in the morning, I have very little time to exercise Rusty, my shepherd husky mix before leaving for work. I'd literally have to get out of bed at 3am to accomplish this.
I got my sisters dog and he has never been alone. He freaks totally out and is ofc also a pomeranian.. it breaks my heart when i leave him in that state, he barks so much it looks like he is crying. I feel so bad

Will can you give me advice please. I got 12 weeks french bulldog. She got her crate that fits her bed and litter box with wooden pallets. she started using it and this helps me to keep her bed clean. the crate was placed in the living room. I could not place it in my bedroom as she snores badly. The carte is covered and this way she does not wakes up at night as she used to (at 4-5 am barking)
I also got a doggy door in the laundry room. But the crate does not fit there. In the past, i put an enclosure around the doggy door and her bed. She went out early morning but still did her toilets inside in the laundry. She also woke up early in laundry.
So which is the best way to teach train her toilet -to use a doggy door and make her sleep through the night?

He is fine in crate when I am around , he sleeps , so my 4 month old lab has my separation anxiety and I leave him for a bit to cry it out but have neighbours, I return when quiet but I can’t even leave room and he cries , I walk him and play , and everything he needed to do but just can’t settle on his own . Need help !
My puppies are already crate trained. I’ve been going downstairs and trying to emulate me leaving so they THINK I’m not home. They do great for an hour sometimes 2 and only one time for 3 hours. They’re almost 5 months. I will be needing to actually leave the house for real soon. I got a WiFi camera so I can check in. But my biggest fear is that they’ll hurt themselves trying to escape the crate. The time they stayed in their crate for 3 hours. They barked at the 2 hour mark for about 15 minutes and then settled back down. But every single time now they go crazy for long periods of time and I can hear them trying to get out. Once I hear them calm down for a minute or so I go in an reward them. However I decided it’s time to stop going into reward them so they can learn to self soothe. How can I safely get them to that 3-4 hour mark. We’ve already gotten them comfortable with their crates it’s just a matter of the length of time. It’s so hard being home and hearing them so upset. I do eventually go get them, because I don’t know what else to do. Is it time to 100% ignore the behavior until they can get to that 3-4 hour mark, or is there something else I should be doing instead?
I've been struggling with the desensitization part. I have three kids. 5, 3, and 2. And getting them ready to go anywhere is a fight. He understands that getting them ready means we go out to the park. And he gets excited. Managing three kids, getting them dressed then having them sit on a couch for a bit. They'd prolly just undress themselves. 😑

I have to leave him in bathroom due to alarms I put down pads leave him food water yet he rips up his pads poos Wees destroys everything in bathroom shampoo body wash ect

The part with having a lot of active time worked for me.. he is usually so tired after playing fetch that he is happy to have a few hours for himself 😂
So many people have an issue with their dog destroying their home or barking and howling when they leave the house. This problem has such an easy solution and that's crate training.
How long is too long in the crate? I crate my dog at night so feel guilty for any reason to crate train during the day
@@AdriannaLLopez I think 8 hours daily during the day is too much, but that is atleast better then the puppy running lose and risking hurting itself seriously. Also dogs especially puppies and seniors sleep most of the day anyway and if you crate train their crate is a cozy den that they feel comfortable in. Dogs that don't have access to a crate might become anxious.

Mr. Darcy is almost 7 mos old and I've been following you since I got him home at 7 weeks old. I follow this process as you have shared this info before. Came home last week after just an hour and he destroyed his bed. Yesterday was gone for 2 hours and I took his bed out of his crate, but he could reach the blankets and sheet on my bed and he chewed them up. He loves his crate as he eats and sleeps there during the day. What do I do now? Please help😭🐕❤️
My experience of my own dogs separation anxiety is you need to start really slow and have frequent practice. It took me over a month to get my dog to be alone for an hour. In that time, I had to leave her for 5min, then 10min, back to 5min, 20 min, back to 5 min and so forth. Sticking in a few 30 seconds and one minute alone sessions for her too to desensitise her to the opening of the front door and making sure it wasn’t always just a ramp up each time to give her some easy wins depending on her progress. This was all time consuming and sometimes a pain in that first month or so. But my result is she is more than happy and comfortable staying at home for an hour. Im still working on getting that overall alone time increased surely but slowly

Yes!!! I found it after my dog was already about a 14 months old and I got the Canine boot camp course and it made a world of difference! She listens so much better and we have a much stronger bond. The canine boot camp course worked wonders and there is so much useful information that I didn’t know about canine behavior before. When I got the boot camp course it was $100 and let me tell you that I got more training info and a better behaved dog than spending $3,500 on a local trainer that seemed to have no idea what they were doing now that I look back on it. I 1000% recommended ALL of the Boot Camp courses!

Hey! I had the same question before I got mine! I ended up getting a 54 (or 52 I can’t remember 😂) inch crate (with a divider for when she was a puppy) and its a perfect size for her now that she’s fully grown (I say perfect it may be a little big but she likes it and since she’s a female shes smaller than the males but she’s still a BIG dog. She’s 29 1/2 inches tall and 125 pounds-she’s a VERY lean and muscular dog). Hope this helped!

@@Niss-Tang I think I got mine from Petsmart or Amazon but I can’t remember. Also I think Chewy has them if you can check there. I think the 48 inch would be too small as well Edit: I just checked on Chewy and they do have the 54 inch wire crates!

The Doberman Pinscher in my neiborhood bit a kid in the leg !! The wound is deep !!
Wish to have some behaviour advise now. I want to come to that house and help them with their dog's behaviour
P/s: the owner never take that Doberman out for a walk, or give him enough stimulate that he needs. He is always being kept in the cage. He had shown some resistance behaviour with his owner, when trying to runaway
The situation was like this : the boy walks out, standing infront of the house, no sudden movement, no sudden action. The owner open the door for the Doberman to do the potty, and then it strikes directly at the boy (as they have told me)
Please give me some advice on this. What action can i take to help the Doberman's owner with his dog's behaviour?
Well what I’d do would be try and convince the person to at the very least play frisbee or tug o’ war for three twenty minute sessions a day and set a structured daily routine and also show lots of affection to the dog Dobermans are the ONLY dog breed bred specifically for personal protection and as a result they NEED frequent interaction with their handler
sure the best thing is if your out of the house for 5 days a week for say 8 hrs maybe more and there is no one in the house is don't have a dog it's not fair to be in the house that long on its own
I can’t leave my Corso puppy in a crate for 12 hr shifts. I’m considering putting him up for sale and hate that thought.

I dont like the idea of routinely leaving a dog alone. A 9-5 job and you will begone for about 10 hours. SZ dod is a family member. If its going to be alone everyday, why even have a dog?

She's already torn out all my blinds in my house! She started chewing the door jam to get out to me too!! On top of that she chases my cats through the house! I really need help PLEASE!!
