Charukesi, that is so well known to incite feelings of pathos and devotion listeners, the 26th Melakarta ragam is called as Tarangini in Muthuswami Dikshitar's school of music. It is the shuddha madhyamam equivalent of Rishabhapriya, which is the 62nd Melakarta. I don't know why the Charukesi is found to be much liked especially when listened in night hours while no one is around me! Minds get solace that cannot be explained ! I should say on those listened in the current year....Charukesi songs..... 'shiva shiva shiva enniro' , a Kanakadasa kriti ( instead of 'Arabhi'...even sung by vocalists in karnataka in yet another ragams too !) melodiously presented by Saketaraman, the disciple of Late .Lalgudi Jayaraman; 'Anjaneyanin padam.panizhvom' of composer Appadurai sung by Nisha Rajagopal; 'Maanasa Sanchara r'by Sadaashiva Brumhendrar, sung by Guru Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna in Charukesi, deviated from the practice of singing usually in Ragam Sama/Syaamaa !......yes the Tamil kriti - " Kuzhal Osai Ketka Manam "/Ambujam krishna- renditin by Madurai TNS and the RTP by sanjay Subramaniam ( with Bharathiyar's "engal kannnammaa naghai pu rojaappu engal kannammaa vizhi indra nilappu"! Here the Thyagaraja kriti - 'ADamodi galade ramayya! maata' ...Good brief aaalapana......Presented a lovely recital......class niraval @ caduvulanni delisi shankaraantshudai/ Charanam first line and thereafter the swarakalpana are fine...... Raga rendition can be little slower with much involvement. It is just really seems to be something unusual in raga rendering. Amme Enikku choru vilambu, Koottanozhi, Amme avial ozhukku, sambarar ozhikku koode morum😄It's personal opinion.
