      We actually did that for the bar area and it turned out great. We wanted the wood look for the fireplace though.

    I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up th-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

    Nobody asked me, but over time, despite my efforts to the contrary, I've had a bunch of instances of planer snipe AFTER I cut the boards to length, so I started planing before cutting to length. Has worked better for me...

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Lol 10 grand? Wish I had half of that in woodworking tools 😉 skip the planner, use a circular saw and straight edge, and sand the top and you're good to go!

    • @cswilliams29
      @cswilliams29 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do not need to buy woodworking tools new. I have a 13" Makita planer I traded on CL for a compound bow I paid $150.00 for. The guy used the planer for 1 job. I have a 10" contractor grade table saw that I bought on CL for $200.00, it needed some love but it is now like new and I only spent a few bucks on various parts. I have the same miter saw in this video that I got an estate sale for $250.00, it looked like it still had the original blade in it. There are deals out there so don't be discouraged and think you have to drop $$ on tools, just be patient and keep searching...

      This made me LOL!! So true!! I am in the process of getting the tools, myself. Got them all, but the planer and jointer. Those are coming soon! However, with the lumber prices being so high due to the 'Rona, you win by having bought the wood already!!! It's crazy how prices have doubled for lumber!

  • @glivingston38
    @glivingston38 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Looks awesome. Couple little things too note (suggestions). A jointer would be a great investment. It actually is what makes a board flat and gives you those really nice 90 angles in the milling process. A Planer squeezes the board and really does not flatten it. It is used to make the board parallel to your jointed flat surface. 2X material has higher than normal water content and should be allowed to dry to a lower concentration. Higher water concentration can lead to warping as time passes. Putting poly on all sides also can help by trapping in the water and allowing it to dry equally. With all your fastening that should not be a issue though. Over all it does look awesome. I may revisit the idea of 2X for the cabin.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks great. Yea a joiner would be a great tool to get in the future. It's definitely in the list.

    Nice. Just something that may be helpful if you do something similar. Best to use planer first to get a flat surface if you're going to use your tablesaw to square the edge. If Most of the 2x I find aren't exactly "flat" so squaring them on the saw doesn't give a very good right angle.
    Looks nice.

    As a woodworker of 15 years you need to remember to seal all surfaces including the bottom to stop moisture from absorbing which will cause wood movement. 2x material is not kiln dried to cabinet moisture content therefore it is prone to warping as it dries further. Seal all surfaces

Also, where do you set the collar for the drill bit, I want to make sure I get a good amount of threading into the wood. Love my Kreg Jig, just haven't been able to figure out what screws/collar/clamping dimensions out yet.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All depends on the wood thickness, but 1 1/4 inch screws should be the right length for wood that is 1.5 inches thick. Your kit should come with a guide for the drill bit, don't know what to tell you as far as actual settings on that. Good luck man

    Wow, just found your channel, and I like the like the use of common lumber. You must be part Scottish like me too :)
    I'd also echo the dislike for dark wood, had a laminate floor in our old house which while nice looking just darkened the place too much. Current house has dark trim in the interior which I'm gonna replace with lighter. However, the grain certainly did pop, and in some spaces that are well light it can work well. Subbed.

      Thank you! I dont know where you are looking to add your counters (built ins, kitchen, etc) but you may like the epoxy counters I made for my bar as well. Fairly cheap for a higher end look and we love them! Good luck with your project!
