In this video we have discussed about orchid farming in odisha. Huma, a small village in Ganjam, best known for its salt farming, is proud to be on the world orchid map today. The climate of Ganjam particularly Huma of Ganjam block is suitable for #commercial_orchid_cultivation. Mostly Dendrobium orchid is commercially cultivated in #Odisha. Orchid is one of the highly profitable perennial flower which “grows without soil”. It takes the food and moisture by its aerial roots. Generally 12 orchid clumps are planted in one sq mtr area. For 1000 sq mtr (1/4th Acre) 12000 plants are required.
For this the State Government is providing #70_Percent_subsidy & flower production starts just after 7 months of planting with an average production of 10 numbers per year. Now orchid is grown over an area of 25.0 Acres as a profitable #floriculture crop in Huma, Ganjam and more than 200 families are regularly getting employment for taking care, plant protection, micro irrigation maintenance, fertigation, harvesting, grading & packaging of flowers. There is one flower mandi at Berhampur managed by Flowers Grower Association with sorting, grading, packing & cold storage facility which is taking care of the Post Harvest Management (PHM) of the produce.
