Thanks, i was a bit nervous about learning the camera settings, but when i saw the guided menu, i knew that was exactly the kind of training wheels i needed. Most importantly i don't feel lost when i'm switching modes to try something new. Also i'm going to Oregon to film the total solar eclipse on August 21st. Do you have any advice that might help ?
+Matt Duden I'm jealous. Even when the eclipse is full the corona will still be very bright. You might get away with shooting without ND filters (practice by shooting the moon) but when it's not full I would use ND filters otherwise you'll struggle to expose anything and it's not ideal exposing your sensor to the sun like that either. I'd go with a six stop. Hope that makes sense. Just some thoughts off the top of my head.
It's nearly five years on, but this video review was indirectly gratifying for me. About 18 months ago I replaced my *ancient* Rebel XT / 350D (!) with a T8i / 850D. It's basically the 800D / T7i with 4k video, a rear dial and some other relatively minor niceties. I initially had my sights on the 80D at the time. But after reading reviews I ended up not being able to justify an extra ~$1,000 for the 80D given where I live (Louisiana, USA) and the limited landscape opportunities it offers. That money could be better spent elsewhere. Given all the naysayers decrying the death of the DSLR and rise of mirrorless, I wasn't sure I had spent my money wisely. But I think I have, and it's nice to hear basically the same thing from others more experienced and knowledgeable. I don't have L quality lenses (Sigma 17-70, Canon 70-300 IS USM) but with a little care I can get decent images. Thanks for the informative review.
@@yas2wins it has 4k but cropped at 2.6x also at 4k dual pixel af won't work.... so it's not very practical... the m50 only has a very few lenses which is why I'm not giving it an edge
Just shows you don't need a pro camera to great photos. These entry level cameras are just as good. I own the canon 700D and took great photos. You can have as much fun with these cameras as pro cameras.
Honestly, it is the lens that matters more than body IMO. A quality lens and a good understanding of your settings is worth more than going up to an 80D or beyond.
Pro cameras let you take great shots most of the time with great focusing and metering system. Where in no-pro cameras you may take great shots, accidentally!
I have had the T3i since 2011 and it has been terrific. It was a compromise because it was all I could afford at the time but it has served me quite well. The 800D/T7i sounds like a great improvement on mine.
I appreciate the fact that you showed video features and capabilities. Most reviews only focus on photography but I'm a videographer so this was really helpful
Great video. I've been a pro photographer for over forty years, and my current camera of choice is the Canon 80D, which is VERY similar to this one. I know there are cameras about that 'measure' better and it doesn't have 4K - though I question the need for that, having owned cameras for a couple of years that DID have it and only having used it once - but it's as good as most people will ever need, especially with the right glass on the front. I've been through my 'full frame' phase, and still gravitated back to Canon APS-C. At the end of the day, if a picture looks right, then it IS right, no matter what it was shot on, and the current crop of Canons - 80D, 800D, 77D etc - are capable of wonderful results, and that dual pixel AF is mind-blowing for video, and much better than the Sonys that people seem to rave about 😀
+Keith Spillett Thanks Keith. Really appreciate this comment and your insight. I agree too. The cameras you mention are capable of pretty much everything photography wise that you throw at them. My main reason for wanting 4k to to upgrade my channel to all 4k content. As much to future proof it as anything else.
Keith Spillett Kevin.... How are you finding the 80d still... I know it's a good video camera but still wise hows it suiting you needs? What kind of photography is it suited too or is it an all rounder... Sorry for all the questions but am a hobbiest 😁 with a canon point and shoot but interested in a camera that's good for landscape but also not to be pigeon holed into one particular style either... Would be good to get a pro's perspective

June 29th in 2020. Just bought this camera. Owned a 550D aka T2i. I put that thing through so much abuse over 5 years in every corner of the world and every harsh climate from -30 in blizzards to blazing dry forest fires to brackish and salty humidity in the tropics. I still use it today. My 800D (T7i) has no idea what it just signed on for. I hope it holds up like its older relative. Great video mate. Subbed.. I would like to know how using it over the years played out. Maybe I should start looking at the videos you've made. THis one is my first seeing as I'm researching my purchase post haste.
The only review i need of the 800D! Real stunning view. And your positive outlook in the face of oncoming bad weather is contagious. Thank you good sir!
Great review. The 700d is a tough cookie. I dropped mine into the stream at Ashness Bridge, water everywhere. Turned it on and it lit up like a Xmas tree with error messages. Put kit lens and body in separate bags of rice, left them a week and it works fine!
Adam thank you for this great & informative video. I see no reason, other than those obsessed with 4K, wouldn't enjoy & find this camera very useful for a hobbyist photographer or TH-cam vlogger. I think you got a real gem for your vlogs.
I know this video is about 5 year old but I just ordered a 77D and thought I might learn something here as this seemed a bit different. Many "photographers" try to do what you did here and do a poor job of it. You did a great job. Tour accent was a bit of a thing for my TEXAS ear, but with closed caption, I made out ok. Thanks, Bill .
Thanks for this review which really is the real way to review cameras...out in the field using them. I have been looking to upgrade from my Nikon D3200 and had 3 cameras in mind...the 800D being one of them and your review decided it for me. Good job.
Hi Adam, good old UK weather eh? keeps us all on our toes. Cool shots as usual thoroghly enjoyed the review, I just upgraded from EOS 1000D to the 760D, and its a major step up really looking forward to getting out and about shooting some landscapes.I also just bought the 10-18 lens you used. Great review Adam! The change in weather was quite dramatic, sadly it did not last. But that's what I like about landscape photography, when we get the right shot it is so much more satisfying.
Great video. Love the location, I used to visit that particular spot frequently after work during the summer months with my Canon 1000d. Must find those pictures.
Thank you once again Adam, the camera performed well, you must be happy. I mentioned some time ago that I was thinking about the Canon 80D, well the 800D may be a nice intermediate step up from my 1000D. Thanks for the shots pity the weather didn't hold for you.
One of the best reviews i have seen! i am thinking of buying this camera for vlogging and yeah, your review helped me alot! Thanks Man , Appreciated :)

I was 12 when I started in Photography, that was 50 years ago, its a great camera, however, its taken me a long time to realise that its the photo that counts, not what you take it with. Seen some great shots taken with camera phones. Keep interested, its a hobby worth the effort.
What am I doing wrong? Why do my photos look like high quality cell phone photos? Am I using the wrong lens for close up or landscape? Mine came with a 18-55mm IS STM Lens. Please help! :(
Looks great! I think my decision to purchase the 800D was the right 1! I can get a twin lens kit for just under $1K AU, with an 18-55mm & 55-250mm zoom lens. This a good starter? I do a lot of outdoors and wildlife photography and video along with live music video. NEVER realised Britain HAD such beautiful countryside in the Lakes District! Cheers.
Good video and pretty informative. I am a Canon user, and I love using my eos 7Dii however a camera for city breaks, carry-on in luggage, day trip use is a Sony A6600 ! The eye AF is just amazing and thatvis a deal breaker with Canon DSLR cameras.

Good review. What do you think about fullframe vs aps-c in landscapephotography? How will full frame improve my photos? Will the full frame improve my photos at all? In my case from Nikon D7200 to Nikon D750
+Jørg Terhart Full frame isn't going to make you a better photographer so won't necessarily improve your pictures. It will improve the potential for capturing better images though. Take my lighthouse shot from the last vlog as an example. That was taken at ISO 3200 to freeze the lighthouse in those dim conditions. It was relatively noisy on the Canon 5D Mark IV but on a cropped sensor camera it would have been unusable. Also there is no crop factor on full frame so a 16-35mm lens is exactly that. You therefore have the option of higher quality glass at the wide end. Eg the 10-18mm Canon and the 10-24 Canon EFs are OK but do not compare to the wide L glass. The upgrade to full frame is one most photographers strive to at some point. I've not come across many who have regretted it. Like I say in the video though you can still capture great landscape photography on a cropped sensor camera.
Thank you for the answer. I am taking pictures, therefore, a camera will not make a difference to the subject. Therefore I asked how I would notice it in my pictures that I took a full frame picture. What I've figured out until now, as you say too, it's in terms of noise I'm going to see the biggest difference. Given the northern lights photo and dark time in the winter, I will follow the market. I think that a Nikon D760 is coming soon.
Most aurora shots are taken as a long exposure though so you can still keep your ISO down so noise shouldn't be a problem. You wont be sorry if you go full frame. Good luck. Appreciate your question.
Nikon D760 does not seem to arrive so soon XD lol. I anyway chose to stick with DX. I print in 90cm with a D5300 and never found a problem, beside, with a 24MP sensor in DX it is really MANDATORY take a still image with a sturdy tripod because those so high MP in DX really are like 45 in FX, just a little shake and your image is to trash. I like hiking a lot and I preferred to travel light and spend less money rather than have FF expansive camera and lenses with more weight to carry. If you apply the good focal length of a DX it returns to you almost the same image (exception for the slightly different bokeh). The rest of the image is only up to you. I am super happy now with a D500 for reportage and streets or travel and a D7200 dedicated to landscapes and star-trails. ;)
GREAT VIDEO I HAVE EVER SEEN, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT DO YOU RECOMEND FOR GREAT RESULT OF VIDEOS AND PHOTOS, D600,D700 OR D800 CANON, ALSO WHICH SIZE LENS WE SHOULD USE , BASIC OR 18-300MM WOULD BE PERFECT FOR ALL CURCUMSTANCES
Hello Adam i got the canon 200d which is nice size camera with duel pixel focusing i use it for blogging and street photography and i have the canon 700d for my son to use it to see if he likes photography and it’s a grate camera for beginners too yes it’s hunts when blogging good enough for street photography great video I’ll have to see about getting the 800d myself
Great review Adam, I'm deciding between this canon 800d or Nikon d5600 for my 1st ever Dslr, which one do you recommend?? il be shooting more photos than videos though, would like to photograph nature, wildlife & landscapes night & day.
Hi, you did a super video review!! I've a question, what kind of lenses did you had to the 800d when you were vlogging? Because I saw other video review, and when they were filming them selves, they seemed to be closer to the camera although they had the arm outstretched... I don't know if you got what I wanted to ask hah ( I'm not English speaker so I'm not able to ask that in some easier way) Thankss

In my experience Nikon never have delivered for me a crystal shot, Cannon is doing it all the time
Nikon D760 does not seem to arrive so soon XD lol. I am super happy now with a D500 for reportage and streets or travel and a D7200 dedicated to landscapes and star-trails. ;)
I just picked this up and I love it.
Great video Mr Adam and thanks for sharing ;)

Hello I have 760D and would like an upgrade, would this camera be much of a upgrade for value for money please
Great video! I will upgreat when 4K is standard.
Perfect review that i have ever seen
