Can you bring back the real time videos? Those are really helpful with timing each step. Would love to see them done with current trends/designs or even the single nail designs Greg does but as a full set.
I have saved time by finding my favorite shaped bit in coarse. Yes you can be efficient in prep, but don't forget removal! I wasted a lot time using a medium safety barrel when I was new and felt so down about my time. With practice I got better and found ways to be faster that did not change the look of the nails or longevity.
I need to practice more it still takes me 3 ½hrs mainly on building the nail (acrylic) and because I take my time there I file less but I still take around 13-20 min per nail start to finish. Regardless of my time and I'm just practicing I'm never charging below $90 that's just me, full set.
Love this video as time and charging clients it’s an issue into the beauty and wellness world. When you master proper technique and working method you have a better time management and things becoming easier to do because you know exactly what you’re doing and how to fix unexpected issues during the service. The majority of clients into my neighbourhood wouldn’t seat three hours for a reverse gel French or a baby boomer so if I can’t do basics services under a decent timing I don’t do the service at all because people aren’t going to charge me enough for the time I’m spending for that. For services out of standard nail sets it’s a higher expertise so you can charge more and taking more time.
Please please please let Habib and Tracey know that this video is so on point I'm actually tearing up as I watch this because I am exactly on this boat right now and I need help. I have an opportunity to gain more clients but from experience I'm realizing things are a little off with my timing, client retention and with this opportunity coming up, soon to be pricing and I'm saying to myself "I really need to get it together because I NEED this to work out. It's possible, please get it together" 🥺 my personality gets new ppl in my chair but my lack of retention is starting to bother me. I really really needed to hear this. I love when YN gives us these mentoring videos. It helps get us where we need to be just because someone who's been through it is helping us!. ♥️♥️♥️ Thank you, thank you, thank you soooooo much. Please don't ever leave us. Lol us future, caring nail techs need these discussions. ♥️
I found buffing with the little orange/white square buffers much much more, using a small nail file on the nail plate next to the cuticles, and double acetone cleaning before painting save my life!
When I started doing hard gel nail extensions I would take 5+ hours and they were awful. Now I can do it in about 2 and a half hours and they are decent. Yeah, it sucks to not make money. I'm going to school so I'm not licensed yet, but I'm still spending money on products.
I love the 30 minute set that lasts and looks brilliant! I can’t tolerate sitting there for much longer. I don’t get nail polish or designs. I can do my own complete set in 45 minutes and they look/last just as long. I’m getting faster.
Can you guys please talk about nail techs being misclassified as an independent contactors instead of an employee at a salon? I am currently going through this & I wish there was more info on this topic from the nail industry. 😬💗
My nails were georgus it took me 4 to 6 hrs in the beginning and anyone nails I did were shocked that they even liked the nails for real. But no one wants me to do there nails anymore because I was so slow. How do I get clients now I even have a certificate now. Where should I go now? I continue to practice on my self and practice hands ....?
A full clientele is going to be different for everyone based on how much money you are wanting to make and what your prices are. Someone may charge less and works a little more quickly so they make X amount of money in X days when someone else makes the same amount in less days when they charge more. Does that make sense.
My thing is how to improve quickly...i know its not too rush your work ....but how do you pick up quickly if you dont like to speed by...i find if i rush.... the outcome wont look as great.
Speed comes with time. As you get used to doing services then you'll find you start being quicker and then there are speed techniques we talk about on this channel.
Hi, I just started my own nail salon in a small town where most people are used to being a number and not paying much for their nails. I have done alot of research on pricing in my area and it seems $50.00 is the going rate however by the time the appt is done people are paying way more than that. My Starting price is $65.00 and am struggling to get clients am I charging to much. I wish I could talk to one of you on the phone. Please help. Thank you for your time. Your videos are always so inspirational and I appreciate you guys.
If you are just starting your business, it can take some time to build a clientele especially if your pricing is higher than the average. Your pricing doesn't seem to be that much more than your local average, so you may just have to work on getting your name out in the area. Work on your social media and "advertise" yourself. If clients are able to see your work, they will be able to see that you are worth the higher price. If you already have a few regular clients, take advantage of this. Try doing 2 for 1 specials or "bring a friend" deals. Ask your current clients to post their nails on their own social media and have them tag you. We have some great videos on our TH-cam channel on how to grow your clientele as well. Here's a great one to get you started. th-cam.com/video/DoFosq-OAjA/w-d-xo.html
I work for a salon I take an 1h 30min for a gel polish removal and gel manicure is that a long time ? A fullset takes me 2 hours 🙃🙃 simple short that is they say I take long what can I do.
That's not bad. Everyone is going to work at different speeds. The more you do it, the more you will have the technique down and the faster you will be. Do you soak the gel polish to remove or remove with an e-file?
It should be a simple conversation. Thank them for their continued business, let them know that the price will be increasing however much and it will go into effect on the specific date. It's not something that is negotiable and if they choose to go elsewhere, that's their choice. Keep in mind, if you do lose a client or two, the amount you raised your prices will make up for the lost client and it opens a spot for another client that is willing to pay your higher prices.
So how much should you be making an hour?? I do hair and nails. I make more per hour doing a haircut than nails. $85 vs $65/$75 for an 1 1/2 hours … thats nail removal/prep(30 min), keratin and gel polish…… if I do a hair color service its $110 for 1 1/2 hour. I love doing nails but am broken between giving them up….. 😢
Not making money....I am in school, can't make money doing nails yet....I am considering a part time job till I am done with school. I really don't want to get a job
They say we attack what we wish we could be able to do but aren’t able to, that’s why I don’t pay attention to everyone’s opinion, if it’s not constructive criticism I don’t care
Here is a situation that happened to me yesterday. My client sent a photo of what she wanted. I told her that i couldn't do it exactly like the photo because idk what was used, i probably dont have the same items etc... she said she was fine with that. i showed her the colors i though would be best based off the photo... all good with her. I was happy with the set at the end. I asked the client (Im still new only doing nails since march) if there was anything she wasn't happy with. That i'd rather fix anything she didn't like now so she didn't leave unhappy or have to come back. She said she was good. (I didn't believe her) but what can I do? She leaves, then calls another nail tech crying she hates them wants the other nail tech to fix them... nail tech reaches out to our manager who calls the client and tells her to come back and we will fix for free...(Meaning I will fix them for free) She comes back realizes the manager who isn't a nail tech btw isn['t going to fix them that i am and she refuses and wants a refund... I give her the refund, but i'm pissed. so i lost two hours of my time plus the money for the set. What is the best way to handle this? oh and there were a couple of minor things that i didn't notice originally that were easily fixed. her thumbs were different lengths and one was a little wider than the other... easy to fix.
Take it with a grain of salt. Keep improving your skill and remember some people will never be happy with anything because of something totally unrelated to you and they just need someone to take it out on. Sorry this happened to you, but it’s the reality of customer services.
Take it as constructive criticism. Dont take it to heart. Use it as an experience to get better. I also see a lot people say no refund and only a fix. You asked her if she liked it and she lied. But only so much you can do since it isnt your salon. Sorry this happened to you.
Depending on your situation (if you are an employee/commission or rental), you may need to discuss this with your manager. If you are a renter, going forward, you can choose to not reschedule this client but for future clients, make sure they understand your policies on "re-do's." If there is something they are unhappy with, they need to let you know before they leave. If they call later and say they are unhappy, let them know you will be happy to fix the problem, but since they were happy when they left, it is up to your discretion whether to refund the cost.

We hope to have some soon😊
Yes!!!! More real time videos!
Yessss pleaseeeee
Shortening nails/reshaping eats up the most of my time, so seeing real-timesaving tips on that part would be helpful

You are such a help for so many. You are special people at YN. Thank you so much for all you do for us.
Yes! Totally! I love what I do, I could literally do it 7 days a week...but at the end of the day this is my business and how I pay my bills.
I need to practice more it still takes me 3 ½hrs mainly on building the nail (acrylic) and because I take my time there I file less but I still take around 13-20 min per nail start to finish. Regardless of my time and I'm just practicing I'm never charging below $90 that's just me, full set.

Okay.. I have to go back and watch the video again and really listen to it, because all I could focus on was on Tracy's boots!

Lucky lol
Time is my thing I am working on. All YN has preached since I started watching their videos years ago was charge your worth. ❤
I love you guys so much I support the companyyyy!!!!❤️❤️
Thanks for this! Needed it

Here's a great video that may help! th-cam.com/video/XQMaonN_KlY/w-d-xo.html
Ooh that sounds sketchy. Uber & Lyft was going thru that same shady business 🤦🏾♀️
Let US normalize, respectful nail techs customers!
Brilliant advice! Thank you 🙂

I feel you girl

practice more. watch youtube of people doing nails.

If you feel unsure about the quality yourself listen to that voice and fix it before you move on to the next step
