That's very unfortunate. I heard about them replacing the AEM-7's but I didn't know how true that was considering that they were electric and these are diesels.
For MARC, it's cheaper for them to go all Diesel than electric. At least they kept at least one gp40wh-2 for emergency. They're using more of their MP36s than their GP39s, so it would make sense for them to replace their old engines with new ones and have some extra on hand. Maybe they might keep the GP39s alongside the SC-44, until they can't be used no more.
I love the MP36's! Thank God they're still fairly new, at least on MARC... While on the subject of MP36's it seems time has really flew. The Chargers sure make the MP36's already look old school. And they're already starting to age on the first few railroads who purchased them it seems. On Metra, Caltrain, and Rail Runner, there's some obvious years of wear and tear on them just by how they appear. Thankfully Metra is rebuilding theirs for further service. And not to get even more off topic or anything, but Metra is rather pleasing because they're F40's have been in service for 40 years and they're still rebuilding them for further service. Man, come to think of it, the Chargers make F40's seem like they don't belong. But from my perspective, the Chargers seem like big time invaders. Anyways, I forgot what my point was.... but the Chargers sure make most stuff still around seem old school, and from another perspective, the Chargers sure feel invasive.
Nice looking engines. However, diesel engines don't hold the same charm for me as either steam or electric. Diesel just seems to the third wheel, so to speak.
I live in Frederick. How did I miss this.
Great catch! And a perfect view, really nice😁😁
I live in DC but have family living in Frederick MD. Love to visit them on a trip that won’t require a car.
Like those LED ditch lights. They really stand out, especially at night.
Nice video!
Thumbs up from Tokyo Japan :-)
Wow, these are cool! I’d love to see NJ Transit get some.
Does the LED display panel not work?
Sweet catch!!!
Great catch!
Beautiful Brand new Marc Train Siemens Charger Units With The Marc Fleet Unlevel Coaches and a Beautiful Sound of the American Nathan K5LA AirHorn
Great looking engines. I wonder if Metro North &/or LIRR will be purchasing any.
They are definitely an improvement over the MP36 - but it wouldn't take much LOL.
The GP40s they replaced were better, probably by a longshot
Then again, the GP40 is hard to replace. Hard to live up to something as reliable and rugged as the 40 family.
Zack Boone GP40's have the perfect adhesion and control.
I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad about missing that thing's arrival in my hometown.
Sweet! Is Marc purchasing more?
Thanks! ...I’m not sure
Engine201 yes they are
Nice! Least no one blocked your shot this time!
Thanks!! True that ;)
A Raised Letter (3rd Gen) K5LA, gives a more modern feel than the older K5LA's
Sure does!
Is the Frederick line a branch line? Where do these trains put passengers on the main line? (I should know, living in Gaithersburg).
It splits off at point of Rocks onto another main line then just south of Frederick splits off to a branch line
nice. awesome catch.
Thanks!
your welcome
caught them at St. Denis, maryland
Nice man!
I saw #81 recently
I'm afraid to ask, what will those hideous things be replacing?
Who knows.. Probably the GP39s they've had for a long time.

They're replacing the old set of HHP-8s that run on the NEC.
