The Mask is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System side-scrolling action video game based on the first Mask movie. The film, in turn, was loosely based on the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name. -

I bought this game in 1997 at a blockbuster in Clear Water, Florida. I'm 28 and for some reason, that one memory stands out in my mind.
In 1997 you should buy PlayStation.

For those of you wondering, the unused "Wild Ride" stage was an amusement park-themed level removed from the game during development. That's why there's clowns in the second stage.
I wonder why it was removed? Amusement park levels in games sound like fun.

Never played this. All I remember about it is that Nintendo Power had a contest tied into the release of the game, offering the winner a chance to appear in The Mask 2. Of course, that movie never actually got made, and instead Son of the Mask was eventually made about a decade after the first movie came out. Have to wonder what the winner of the contest got as a prize instead.

Pity he lost the Jacket. It alone could be worth quite a few buckaroos since the film never happened.
Did you know that the entire sewer level is skippable? I saw a speedrunner play this game. Turns out in the level where you can see the exit, if you stand on the platform inside of jumping down, and do a special horn move, you will hit the exit flag and end the level. :) SNES speedrun by Mr K 9 min 22 seconds.
I have to wonder why the Mega Drive version was cancelled. It probably would have done fairly well at the time.

I used to watch my babysitter play this when I was 5-6. The old lady coming out would scare the shit out of me for some reason and I'd always run out of the room when she got to that part lol
The artwork and animation wasn't that bad for the time I feel. But I remember getting bored really quick with the levels.

You fight the final boss wearing the mask on while you are wearing another mask on. I don't remember two masks in the movie xD

Ya know, GamePro ran a contest when this came out. I entered and got a 3rd place prize. Which was? Another years subscription to GamePro. Now I really miss gaming magazines, though.

Also, Nintendo Power did one which was whoever won got to be an extra in Mask 2 with Jim Carrey, something like $10k in cash and a round trip to be in the movie, but because Mask 2 never happened (until "Son of Mask"), it was cancelled and the guy won something (i can't remember what it was), but it was on one of the AVGN episodes, think it was the Nintendo Power one where Nerd was skipping through the pages and found that.

Surprisingly this was one of the easiest games I've ever played and beat I remember buying this game on ebay a couple of years ago because I was a fan of the movie it's still one of my favorite super nintendo games I ever bought.

yeah, not like the original comics, where The Mask makes people into murderers.
I much prefer the film and the animated series, they were part of my childhood. If I read the comics first, I'd be scarred for life.
We remember seeing that movie in a local Danville movie theater, and then we bought the movie on VHS, and currently DVD, and then, my oldest son watched the Animated Series every Saturday morning on CBS. The only difference between the movie and the series is that Jim Carrey played the title role, whilst Rob Paulsen did the same. Sssssssmokin'!!!!!!!!!

I always hated the final boss. He took way too long to kill, I would lose my patience then end up dead.
To beat the last boss, you must have a lot of composure, calm and mental to finish him.
I was a kid back then and I had the composure of a squirrel. I originally believed that the sliding strategy wasn't working since it took way too long.

@@MrDrunkenrat I remember using the guns until your mask energy expired, jump around his attacks and using the horn until he tied, he was pretty easy to beat that way

Dorian Tyrell and his gang of rogues are secretly planning to take over Edge City, a small and prosperous city 🏢🏦🏙🌇 where the nightlife revolves around the wealthy patrons who attend the nightclub that Dorian owns and operates for the benefit of himself and his henchmen. Stanley Iipkiss, a mild mannered bank 💲💵💰💸 clerk who is unlucky and bullied transforms into the namesake character after discovering a green Loki mask. The Mask and Stanley must stop Dorian Tyrell and his plan, and save Tina Carlyle the woman that they both love.
The ending of the video game involves dancing with a 16-bit representation of Cameron Diaz accompanied by big band music. Cameron Diaz's breakthrough role was as Tina Carlyle (Dorian Tyrell's girlfriend) in the actual film.
