    Because stats like Dividend Yield and Payout Ratio are constantly changing, by the time you watch this video they will likely be outdated. TH-cam doesn't allow edits to content after posting, so the point of this video isn't to give you updated stats. I weigh out the overall growth potential of each company, along with the dividend payout stability of each company, and have made my top picks for monthly dividend stocks for the long-term (5+ plus years). I hope this list sparks some ideas for you to go and research and find out more about each company and if it's right for your portfolio. Happy investing and I hope you enjoyed my content :)

      REI.UN went from 9.75% to 4.95% Dividend Yield which appears to be in 9 days if the information you gathered was around the time you uploaded this video. I guess this video proves that companies with high dividend payout ratio are not good for portfolios that are income-focused.

    A word of caution on Timbercreek. Yes, great divvy but it is taxed as interest and is not an eligible dividend for income tax purposes so you will pay a significantly higher tax compared to say Pembina, or Enbridge. For me, the tax implications for TF force me to exclude it.

    Thanks. Which of these are "eligible cdn dividends" for tax purposes

    • @WealthAwesome
      @WealthAwesome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      According to the CRA: An eligible dividend is any taxable dividend paid to a resident of Canada by a Canadian corporation that is designated by that corporation to be an eligible dividend. A corporation's capacity to pay eligible dividends depends mostly on its status.
      In this case, all these are Canadian corporations, so should all be eligible dividends.

    From an institutional perspective, is the any risk difference between having a TFSA through a major bank vs say Wealthsimple?

    • @WealthAwesome
      @WealthAwesome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very, very little risk difference. Maybe a major bank has a smaller chance of going bankrupt but wealthsimple is getting pretty huge now itself with a low chance of bankruptcy. Both are covered up to $100,000 by CDIC insurance even if one does go bankrupt.

    Good video. I never owned 1 of these stocks but I follow some. I just wish getting dividend information was easier. Many sites including Google give inaccurate div yield % and wrong ex div dates which can lead to buying/selling when otherwise wouldn't have. Calculating dividend can be complicated because for example, I bought bip.un recently and Brookfield pays out in USD which is converted to CAD. 4 sites all gave different yeild percent for bip-un. Marketbeat so far I found gives accurate dividend yield.

    Hi bro, great content. I’m investing in VEQT for the next 20 years so I’m okay with the volatility. My question is since savings account are low in interest I’m thinking of investing some money in high dividend ETF so I can save the money and use it in the next 5 years for bigger purchase, is it safe to treat high dividend etf for example xdiv as a better alternative to savings account? I’m also using EQ bank too. Thank you 😊

    • @WealthAwesome
      @WealthAwesome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jesse, a balanced portfolio shouldn't be equities and savings account, it should be equities with fixed income split. You should figure out what your proper equity / fixed income split is, and invest accordingly. A high-dividend ETF is not a good alternative to fixed income or a savings account, as it will be much riskier and might not be suited to your risk tolerance and time horizon. I recommend doing this investor questionnaire to learn more: www.vanguard.ca/individual/questionnaire.htm#/

      @jessesangha5489 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bro,
      I have taken the Vanguard questionnaire many times. I just answered it again and got 100% equities. I’m planning on putting $200 monthly in veqt for next 30 years. I’m aware that the market will fluctuate up and down but In the long term will be great return.
      If someone is already invested in asset allocation etf such as veqt is investing also in high dividend etf worth it for monthly income?
      Thank you

      Seriously. Wow. This is a MONTHLY dividend stock video. Enbridge doesn't pay monthly dividends.

    REI.UN doesn't have 9.75% Dividend its around 5%. NEVER use free stock brokers, if you don't want to have same problems as ROBINHOOD users!!!!

      Yeah REI.UN cut the dividends massively a little while ago.

    Anyone ever borrowed money to invest? A HELOC is currently 3%, Riocan pays 9 something. So you'd be making 6%. But then you're taxed... are the earnings added to your income?

      Hey Riocan is significantly lower dividend yield now. But yeah you could potentially do that as a strategy but there is risk involved. HELOC rates could go up, the stock price could go down if there's a market crash for example.

    I noticed you are reading this word for word off the website. Did you write this yourself, or did somebody else write it?
