I did a test run on my 273 last weekend and noticed that the pickup side was noisy. Several of the guards between the tines are bent in the back where somebody had backed into something, so that was part of the noise, but the chain seemed loud. I pulled of the outer guard and found that 2 of the four cam followers were frozen, so I have four new ones on the way. Luckily I live just 50 minutes from Batta Farm Machinery and they have several 273 parts balers and I'm getting 4 used guards tomorrow to replace the bent ones.

Batta really knows his stuff on New Holland balers so it’s nice to live fairly near that resource.

Thanks for this. I’ll be checking mine. I broke a chain today ran to the store and bought a new one installed the chain and boom broke it again 10 bales later. Come to find out the chain was routed wrong. So make sure you double check your chain routing too!

Josh Thank you for your reply to my message yesterday.
I have watched many of your videos not sure how i missed this one. I will definitely change the can rollers. If it works, I will say you have saved not just my day but the remainder of the bailing season.
    Thank you
    Anthony

You will know if there’s a bad roller. If they’re all good then check the track that they roll in.

@@TheScientistHayFarmer One roller was busted completely. I replaced it.
Will check it out on the weekend. I feel that was the cause.
Thank you and continue your good work of sharing your experiences.

@anthonydsouza8508 if the roller was busted that was 100% the reason.

My NH 65 has been flawless for 8 years but is making up for lost time. Last year it broke a feeder finger. Well, not a finger, those are consumable at $30, rather the little tiny bracket it mounts in thats $250, the finger was fine. Like a $250 picture tube blowing to protect a 10 cent fuse back in the day. I realized the chain connecting to the plunger which translates to the feeder chain was loose and I figure it came off and the finger got left in front of the plunger.
Today the pickup drive belt came off the idler wheel. Then it blew the main and knotter shear bolts, nothing noticeable wrong. Fired back up. 200 more bales. Then broke the finger feeder chain. Again, no reason I can tell. I lube the whole baler every time I used it (which comes out to about 3x what the book says, since I usually bale 300-350 at a session; and the chain was snug but not overly tight which I checked thoroughly in view of the previous chain issue. @#$! I think its haunted, may explain why I havent seen any swallows this year..?

Awesome video and explanation. I've got a new holland baler also, and had no idea there were rollers in there.
