i played it recently for the first time and screenshared it to my friends(i play off the live feed from my capture card), they were bummed that i had no issue with the 8-ball levels what so ever. also i raced through the dlc no problem, even some of the infamous level ones... so idk... is it better then side order? if you're really good then you might say no because side order will have more playtime for you. And personally i'm EVER so slightly leaning towards side order.
I know the blender is goofy and what not, but it serves as a really good contrast to the usual world of Splatoon. There's a bunch of usual household appliances used as weapons, decoration, or other stuff in the world of Splatoon, so I remember thinking "Oh, well I'm sure it's just some funky teleporter that looks like a blender" since that's the kind of logic Splatoon would normally use, but no, it's literally just a giant blender lol. I think it acts as a good way to tell the player "Yeah, this villain isn't working with the usual Splatoon logic"
Octo Expansion is the main reason I prefer Splatoon 2 over Splatoon 3. It was one of the most challenging yet rewarding campaigns I’ve ever experienced and the story was filled with all kinds of surprises. It answered a lot of questions surrounding some of the characters uncertain roles in Splatoon 2 and got me fully invested into the Splatoon universe. This DLC put Splatoon 2 into my top 5 favorite video games of all time and its quality has yet to be matched since.
I know Octo and Side can't be completely compared to one another due to being so different But lord I think Octo was the much better dlc expansion of the 2
You say it as if the DLC makes the overall Splatoon 2 game better than 3, which doesn't. One thing is preferring the main game and other thing is preferring the DLC. bruh
Was I the only one who found 8 balls easy and fun? Like genuinely, all my friends say how much it made them suffer, but I easily passed them and had a great time doing so.
I also found them easy but not that fun. I think the reason for why a lot of players disliked 8-ball levels was because they were the most time-consuming?
Same. I found them fun if a little annoying sometimes. The main reason people hate them (I think) is because they lack patience. Rushing the eightball and not clearing the way makes it 1000 times harder.
@@lorettabes4553 idk i think they really break the pace of the game, basically a finicky escort mission in a super fast paced shooter feels really weird imo. Granted i generally think splatoon singleplayer should be faster in general
The Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion is a brilliant addition to the game! The 80 unique levels offer fresh and exciting challenges, from tricky obstacle courses to intense battles. The vibrant art style and energetic soundtrack create an immersive and stylish atmosphere. Completing the expansion unlocks the ability to play as an Octoling in the main game, adding even more customization options. I thought that this DLC is a must-have. Its engaging story, challenging levels, and outstanding presentation make it a standout addition to the game. Thanks for playing it again because I need a reminder of what peak splatoon is.
I like Side Order and Octo Expansion both a lot gameplay wise, but I feel like Side Order falls flat on the story side of things because a lot of things that I feel like are significant aren’t explained (who were the people that worked with Marina? Who specifically made Smollusk? How were Inklings able to access a test made for the Sanitized? What are the effects of Grayscaling and what does it do?)
Okay this is crazy, but i was replaying octo expansion recently myself and it hits real different with more knowledge of splatoon than anything I've known beefore and i must say that it just feels so great to bee back at octo expansion
I actually just played octo expansion just a few months ago to prepare for side order, and I can see why people faun over it so much. Although I've already had it spoiled so much over years, playing it was still an enjoyable experience and the music is so good and helps elevate the final sections
The sound effect for when the shower guy is about to charge at you sounds like the same sound effect used in Breath of the Wild when something gets powered by elecricity.
7:44 I remember this! I picked up bucket like a week before the rps splatfest and when it came I just could not play bucket because the visuals through me off so hard
I think Octo Expansion is one of the best paid dlc ever made. The only others I can think of that rival it are Xenoblade 2 and 3 having Torna the Golden Country and Future Redeemed. Side Order was good but doesn't compare to Octo Expansion in my opinion.
i actually just revisted Octo expansion last night for the first time since it came out (i was like 9 years old) and beat all the stages I hadn’t beat (girl power took surprisingly only like 5 minutes) but still working on inner agent 3
7:44 does anyone remember when the entire splatoon community gaslit itself into thinking the stringer had to shoot straight up to paint the floor? what was that about?
Oh thats simple. Because it did. The only reliable ink on the entire weapon was where the arrows landed so to paint its feet its only options were to paint straight up or straight down. As shots fly though the air they paint more when they land, along with the tap arrows spreading naturally, so painting up was the best option if you wanted to paint around you.
@@harmless9336maybe firing up was marginally better, but when i used the stringer on launch, i would just tap the floor to paint my feet; i never felt like i *_had_* to look up to get paint
In retrospect, I do enjoy Octo Expansion quite a bit more than I do with Side Order. The levels are very creative, and genuinely challenging to do, especially if you want to 1000% it, the Inner Agent 3 fight at the _very_ end of the DLC is also just as challenging, if not, even harder, and more fun to do. There’s some essence of Octo Expansion being retained within Alterna’s levels, though not as difficult in order to compensate for players who are new to the Splatoon series. And most importantly: it has a great story built around it, with Off the Hook’s relationship, OtH getting to know (former) Captain Cuttlefish better, as well as the both of them helping agent 8 escape the treacherous Deep Sea Metro to the “Promised Land.” All of these factors is what makes Octo Expansion a pretty fun, and solid DLC! I also like to think those grapplinks floating around all over the levels of the main game, and Octo Expansion story levels, are meant to be a test, or precursor to how the zipcaster special works in Splatoon 3, in terms of how its basic mechanics functions, which is a pretty cool thing that goes unnoticed by many people, especially for those that had formally played Splatoon 2, moving onto Splat 3!
I love how challenging OE felt, lots of people hated the 8 balls but honestly the fact that they actually made me sit down and think just made them really fun for me. Considering how piss easy Splatoon campaigns are, OE was such a breath of fresh air and I'm sad the ONLY way to make SO even remotely challenging is completely turning off all hacks.
So, the weapons didn't get updated with the patches they got for this. I noticed that, for Return of the Mamalians, the buffs weapons and specials got in the main game translated over. I remember Inkjet specifically got a buff that made one level actually doable.
the weirdest bit about the inkjet's low boost is that it had S3 buffed boost as early as the S2 testfire. I have no idea why they removed it for the release
If those hook thingies that you shoot and it pulls you towards them would encourage more interesting charger play and make fighting chargers more fun if they were added to multiplayer maps I bet
Just completed Splatoon 3's single player mode. Bought Octo Expansion years ago, but didn't play very much. Was wondering if I would go back if it would still hold up after S3 single player. Enjoyed watching.
15:07 I always prefer new bosses over reusing old ones. I got tired of the octostomper (or whatever his name was). Even Frye's boss suffered from being the reused boss; though I guess lore wise they found it as scrap and repuposed it? Still... compared to shiver and big man, Frye
I know this has nothing to do with octo expansion but the triumvirate is coming back for the salmon run shift that Starts 7/6 at 9 am mst And ends 7/8 at 1 am mst
I enjoyed Side Order a lot more. Octo was just too hard to be fun. Yes you could skip levels, but that always felt hollow. Using roguelike design everyone gets to beat the game on their terms. I did like the Octo finale at least.
Man, I forgot how much I prefer the splatoon 2 bosses over the splat 3 ones. Yea I don’t remember all the splat 3 single player bosses (except the last “normal” boss).
(UPDATED) 7/6/24: Just to update you guys that I’ve already 100% and fully re-experienced Octo Expansion At around 24 hours ago from when I’m making this comment, It was just as astounding as I remember when I first played it when it released. 7/3/24: That’s incredible!, I recently bought and started revisiting Splatoon 2 as well, I’ve already beaten Hero mode and got the Hero Shot for turf war matches, and I’m currently working through Octo Expansion, This franchise is a big part of my childhood and I adore it so much.
Fun fact! The octo shower is actually dating one of those rubber ducks (this may only be true for the octo valley one, anyway we love an objectum king)
Am I the only one who didn't mind the 8 ball levels in OE or the zones levels in SO? (particularly the 8 shaped one) I really never thought they were that hard
Would you guys want to see more of Octo Expansion?
Yes
+Yeah!
Yes!
Do a gimmick run
Yes
As someone who's only played Side Order and not Octo Expansion, I see why 8 balls are despised now.
Hahaha, they were not as bad when I played it myself. Like... you just need to be patient
i played it recently for the first time and screenshared it to my friends(i play off the live feed from my capture card), they were bummed that i had no issue with the 8-ball levels what so ever.

As a player to prefer side order over octo expansion
8 ball is not as good in OE.

That’s actually a great point. Plus a lot of other wacky stuff is in the level backgrounds so it does make you seem like it’s repurposed

WE GOIN BACK TO THE OLD OUTRO WITH THIS ONE

Octo Expansion is a classic that the Splatoon devs went all-out in terms of design. Those 8-ball missions were a nightmare to remember.
I like Side Order and Octo Expansion both a lot gameplay wise, but I feel like Side Order falls flat on the story side of things because a lot of things that I feel like are significant aren’t explained (who were the people that worked with Marina? yes, this is peak splatoon indeed

this video has such a cozy vibe, would def. like to see more
9:11 baffled how this didn't count as a fail
(Probably was a super tiny non-visible bit of ink there)
In that challenge it takes a good bit for the game to register you have no ink so you can grab the ink can but You have to be fast about it
Hearing the enemy alert sound effect in-game instead of as a bleep feels so weird lmao
Hearing your outro music in the wild at 13:32 was mildly confusing for a sec lol
I really like this newish content, I watched your channel update video and I would absolutely love to see new stuff!
