It's a little weird that some of the new characters are played by actors from the first one. I guess there are only so many faces and some just get reused, maybe.
Neil actually said he enjoyed working with Maggie and Nina (those are the actors' names, as well as the characters) so much that he asked them back for season 2.
@@catfancier270 It was very common in America (U.S.) when I was a kid and has tapered off. I think because of serialized storytelling, there is more worry about continuity (which is a development I've actually liked). Even on _Doctor Who,_ they often have throwaway explanations for why a character looks like another character--Martha Jones' cousin an explanation for the actress's pre-companion appearance and Capaldi getting the face of the face of the guy from Pompeii, as well as Gwen from Torchwood being a descendant of a character on DW. But it may also be down to how repertory is more of a thing in England. Gaiman said he liked working with the first season cast on GO that he wanted to again. Michael McKean almost came back. It's been stated some of the first season cast may come back in 3, maybe as new characters (although some of the old characters could certainly fit in with whatever story [mumble]. It works pretty well here because the nuns were pretty small parts and the new characters (including Shax) feel so different from the first-season characters the actresses played.

Actors being brought back to portray different characters seems to be more common in British shows. At least I’ve seen it more there.
